Chapter 6 I have something to tell you

Chapter 6 I have something to tell you

"Thank you for the treat~" Le put down his chopsticks and clasped his hands together in satisfaction. "I really haven't had such authentic Japanese food in a long time."

"Can't we eat it in China?" Yumi-san asked.

"You can also cook it yourself. Your cooking is pretty delicious." Yuzuru Hanyu continued.

"There's so much delicious food in China. Just trying to avoid gaining weight is exhausting. I don't have the energy to cook Japanese food for myself," Le said with a wry smile. After all, the school cafeteria and the canteens at various TV stations alone are enough to make people fat.

I expected to hear Yuzuru Hanyu bragging about his inability to gain weight, but instead he looked regretful, propping his face up on the table. "That's such a shame! Have your dumpling-making skills deteriorated?"

"Why do you care if my cooking skills have declined?" Le wrinkled his nose at Hanyu Yuzuru. "Anyway, you won't be able to eat my dumplings when you go to Finland for competitions these days."

After saying that, he stood up, cleared the dishes in front of him, and went to the kitchen. As soon as he turned around, he heard Yuzuru Hanyu's nonchalant voice: "I can still go to China to compete~"

"Still can't get rid of you, this troublesome picky eater?" Yumi-san came out of the kitchen and gently patted Yuzuru on the head. "Stop saying such willful things and put the dishes in the kitchen."

The dishwashing job was taken on by Yuzuru Hanyu and his mother, although Yuzuru Hanyu looked reluctant.

Le wandered the living room, idly looking around. This was her first time at Hanyu's Toronto home. The two-bedroom, one-living-room apartment was sparsely furnished. The TV stand and sofa and coffee table looked a bit old, likely a set left by the landlord. However, a small display case, unlike any other, caught her eye. Inside, there were some dolls and photos.

These dolls are either mascots of the competition or gifts from ice fans.

Most of them came from outside Japan, and because Yuzuru Hanyu returned directly to Toronto after the competition, they were brought back with him.

There was only one Japanese outlier among them: the mascot for the World Championships in March of this year, from Saitama, Japan. Although he was supposed to return to Sendai after the competition, he wasn't left at home there, but was brought to Toronto.

The ugly creature, which looked neither like a cabbage nor a radish, and had white stripes on its face that resembled a beard, stood out among the cute mascots. Le picked it up and pulled at its green ears, his face full of disgust.

She remembered that before the competition, she received a photo of herself and the mascot from Hanyu, and the two of them even complained, "This cabbage-kun is really ugly!"

You know why I'm here without asking.

He didn't want to see the silver medal, but he needed something to remind him of his loss of the gold medal, so this ugly thing was brought to him.

Le watched the live broadcast of that game.

Throughout the program, she unconsciously tightened her arms as he leaped, sighing with relief with each landing, followed by a brief moment of elation. Her focus was entirely on the skater, oblivious to the GOE bonus in the upper left corner. Hanyu's expression during the ending pose also indicated his satisfaction with his performance.

But the result is...

"Do you want to go out for a walk?" Yuzuru Hanyu's voice interrupted her thoughts.

Yuzuru Hanyu came out of the kitchen, shaking the water droplets off his hands, and glanced at the clock hanging on the wall.

It was already 6:30. Le's shuttle to the airport was at 10:25 pm. Considering the time it took her to get her luggage, she could stay here until at least 9 pm, giving him another two and a half hours.

"Do you want to go out for a walk? Didn't you say you wanted to lose weight?" Yuzuru Hanyu took the mascot doll from her hand and put it back among the other dolls.

"Did I say that?" He looked at Hanyu blankly.

"You said it just now during dinner." Hanyu dragged Le towards the door without saying anything, and even explained as he passed by the kitchen, "Mom, let's go out for a walk to digest the food, and then we'll come back to eat cake~~"

“…”Are you sure you want me to lose weight?

August in Toronto is already the end of summer, and there is a gentle breeze in the evening, bringing a hint of coolness.

The two strolled side by side through the neighborhood. Hanyu usually walked briskly, but today he walked particularly slowly. It was unclear whether he was lost in thought or simply trying to find a comfortable pace. After strolling for a while, they found a bench to sit down.

“I saw you added a new playlist.”

"Huh?" I suddenly heard Hanyu's words in the silence and was unable to react for a moment.

"It's on Spotify." Hanyu took out his phone and opened the app to show her.

"Ah~ You're talking about this. Gabriella was preparing music for her wedding and asked me for some reference. I searched for it and listened to it. It was a seriously sweet playlist."

"So it's not you who's getting married. That's great." Hanyu turned off the phone screen, put it back in his pocket and muttered softly.

But it was so quiet around that Le still heard it.

"What did you say? Who's getting married? Me?"

"How would I know? After all, you don't report every boyfriend to me." Yuzuru Hanyu kicked the stone on the ground in dissatisfaction. "As for Kevin, are you still in touch? Was your relationship stable before? You even agreed to attend the wedding together in eight months."

"No, I haven't been in touch since we broke up. We were just starting out, and he saw the invitation Gabriella sent him. He insisted on coming with me, and he just filled out a Plus One form. It had nothing to do with me at all." He waved his hand, indicating it wasn't worth mentioning. "I remember telling you about it during New Year's Eve? I only dated him for two months, and we were both very busy, so we didn't have much chance to see each other. Then I decided it wouldn't last, so I decided not to waste my time, so we broke up."

"Is that so~~" Yuzuru Hanyu continued with a thoughtful tone.

"Yeah, that's it~~" Le followed Yuzuru Hanyu's tone and shook his head with the ending tone. When he walked over, he found that he was staring at the shadow under the street light in a daze.

Yuzuru Hanyu has a small face, delicate eyebrows, eyes and nose, and a very beautiful silhouette from the side.

It's just that due to his long-term asthma, his jawline is not very obvious, but it is also because of this that his slightly fleshy chin always looks a bit childish. When I think of asthma, the image of him gasping for air every time after skating competitions comes to mind, which makes me feel nervous.

Hanyu turned around and saw Le Zheng staring at him. His ears turned red and he quickly touched his face with his hand. "Is there something on my face?"

Le came to his senses and shook his head.

"Then why are you looking at me?"

"You're acting strangely today, constantly in a daze. I was wondering what's wrong with you. Are you nervous about the competition next month?" Seeing that he didn't respond, Le lowered his head and muttered, "No, you talk a lot when you're nervous, but you're very silent today. It's probably not nervousness."

"I'm not nervous at all. I've made every possible preparation for next season's competition. I've reworked my program and increased its difficulty. I'm determined to win back the gold medal that belongs to me!"

The determination in Hanyu's eyes was like an introduction.

He combined the uneasiness he'd felt over the past few months, Yumi-san's afternoon words, and the "cabbage" mascot in the cabinet. Le clenched his phone, his palms slightly sweating, his ears filled with the sound of his own rapidly accelerating heartbeat.

Take a deep breath.

"I have something to tell you—"

"I have something to tell you—"

The two voices rang out at the same time. Hanyu scratched the back of his head and said, "Then you speak first."

"Yuzuru, have you...ever thought about...retiring?"
