"Hey, didn't we agree to go racing? How did it turn into business?"
The squad leader drove his own off-road vehicle at breakneck speed through the narrow gap between the two sides of the outer ring road. The roaring metal beast kicked up a cloud of yellow sand, and the engine groaned softly.
The squad leader glanced sideways at Fagga, who was dressed to the nines in the passenger seat. His gaze swept over him, finally settling on the small mustache on his lip. He couldn't help but twitch his lips, inwardly grumbling:
"Besides, aren't you overshadowing me by dressing like this? When you're my secretary coming out to discuss business, I'm clearly the main character, but now I look like I'm just running errands?"
At this moment, Fagar was adjusting the cuffs of his butler's uniform. Compared to his usual business attire, he had put on a small mustache, and with Lina's help in applying makeup, Fagar suddenly looked much more mature. He no longer looked as naive as a student, but rather as profound as Lycan.
“No way,” Fagia raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, glanced at the squad leader, and teased, “Aren’t you driving right now? People would think you’re the driver.”
puff!
Before the squad leader could speak, laughter could already be heard from the back seat of the SUV.
Unable to contain her laughter, Ruby doubled over, then leaned against Eileen's lap, who was dressed in a professional office lady outfit, her little pink fists pounding against the leather sofa.
"Haha~~ Driver~ Haha~ No... my stomach hurts, I can't breathe... Hahaha..."
"Don't laugh if you can't breathe!"
The squad leader's face darkened instantly, and he complained, "Why did we bring Ruby with us to the outer ring road? She can't drive."
As he said this, the squad leader glanced at the rearview mirror and saw the black and white doll sitting on Ruby's head. He couldn't help but mutter to himself, "Is this thing actually Bomb?"
"Hey, I heard you! What do you mean, 'Why did you have to involve me?'? And what are you muttering about? Are you insulting me?!"
Suddenly hearing the questioning, Ruby jumped up from Ellen's lap, squeezed out from between the driver and passenger seats, and said with dissatisfaction:
"The main venues for the outer ring's Hellfire Cycling event are all in the Void. Do you want to get lost in the Void without a future legendary investigator like me?"
"I'm afraid that if I follow you, I'll suddenly reappear on Yi Hai's face and get killed in the void!!"
The squad leader looked straight ahead, but raised his chin and pointed at Ruby.
The memory of emerging from the Dopeganya Hole for the first time feels like yesterday.
Although Ruby didn't participate in the investigator assessment, the class monitor had heard about it from Fagia.
He had clearly realized that Ruby, the Hollow Concept, could save her teammates from dire straits!
As for where water and fire came from, don't ask...
"What do you mean? Ruby has already tried her best to find a suitable route, okay? Besides, in my career as a rope maker and investigator, the mission success rate is 100%, 100%!!!"
"Sit down. Which rope craftsman wouldn't have a 100% success rate when working with an agent like Fagga? What does having advanced hardware have to do with someone like you who's in charge of searching?"
Without even glancing back at the roadside, the squad leader decisively reached out and pressed Ruby's head back onto the back seat.
"Ellen, could you please fasten Ruby's seatbelt? ...Speaking of which, Fagga, don't you know any great rope makers, like Phaethon? Oh, I remember that guy's account was deleted, he probably changed careers and quit... And Thousand Faces (Note 1), do you know that guy?"
"I don't know him, but I do know a very skilled rope maker."
Seeing the farce in the car, Fagga couldn't help but smile knowingly. He rested his head on one hand and listened to the howling wind outside the window: "But when I contacted her yesterday, she had already taken on a job."
"Then I thought, well, in the rope-making business, it's all the same whether you make a name for yourself or not. Instead of going out into the rope net to find strangers, I might as well go to Ruby... at least she really knows how to lead the way."
"Guiding the way is the bare minimum for a rope maker, okay? Don't make me sound so bad!"
Although Ruby's body was sealed by Ellen's seatbelt, it still couldn't bind her indomitable spirit. She continued to curse and defend her dignity as a future legendary investigator.
"Yes, yes, I understand. Ruby is the best. She'll be the legendary investigator of the future. Even the exploration of Void Zero, which Professor Archer, the first Void Hunter didn't complete, will be finished by our Ruby."
The class monitor was talking to Ruby when he suddenly turned to look at the roadside.
There was a tent erected there, and the triumphant vehicles were parked next to it.
So, the squad leader narrowed his eyes and slowly slowed down.
"What are you guys doing here?"
The off-road vehicle slowly came to a stop. The squad leader rolled down the window and waved to several familiar members of the triumphant team.
His family runs a clothing business, which has now expanded to the outer ring road, collaborating with the local dominant player, Triumph.
Ever since the school experienced a breach, the class monitor himself became obsessed with racing, and the outer ring road was the ideal racing destination. Over time, he got to know many members of the Triumphs.
"Oh, it's the young master! Good morning, young master! How have you been?"
Suddenly, a spirited young man with dyed yellow hair, his hair covering half his face, strode forward and chatted enthusiastically with the class monitor.
He peeked into the car and saw that frivolous face suddenly appear before Elaine and Fagga. He exclaimed in surprise, "Wow, he even brought friends. It seems the young master is going to stay on the outer ring road for a few more days."
The moment that face appeared, Fagga and Ellen suddenly gasped for breath, their eyes hardening, and a fire ignited in their hearts.
They will never forget this face.
It's you, Lucius!
Lucius suddenly felt a chill run down his spine, as if he had fallen into an ice cellar. He felt a suffocating sensation, as if he were in a dark, dense forest, with an unknown beast watching him intently, and no matter how hard he tried to escape, he couldn't.
But the next moment, that feeling vanished completely.
Is it just my imagination?
