Water Bean, oh no, Potato Teacher, the primary reason his novel became so popular is not because of his writing style.
The subject matter was novel for that era, which was part of the reason, but I think the bigger part was its rhythm.
That's something I failed to do.
For example, Faga and Black Mage fought for ten chapters (whispering).
When should the main character appear? When should they use their cheat codes? When should they level up? When should they fight?...
How many chapters are there in the fight scenes? How many moves will the characters make? What are the reactions of those around them? How is emotional value extracted? How are the spoils of war settled?
All of the above are things I need to learn.
Ideally, the reader's emotions should be kept on a rollercoaster.
The goal is to give readers a sense of when a peak will occur, but when the peak actually appears, it should be so impressive that it leaves the reader in awe.
Once the plot returns to a more relaxed pace, these readers will stay because of their anticipation, and then wait with the author for the next peak.
This is probably the goal I need to strive for.
...
Next, and this is the last point.
Following the traditional PPT format, after summarizing the achievements and identifying shortcomings, the next step is to look to the future.
Oh right!
I'm just that down-to-earth; I'll take three steps to look to the future.
For my next book, I plan to write an urban fantasy novel, which is the one that's been sitting on my bookshelf for six months without any updates.
Let me start with a brief introduction:
Satellites and longswords flew side by side, gunpowder exploded in unison.
The sheer power of individuals makes everyone afraid to gamble, so they become accustomed to ruthless extermination.
Therefore, when the nest is overturned, no egg remains intact.
Even though Qin Jin had never met those relatives, he still couldn't escape being hunted down by his enemies.
In the end, he fell into a ravine and was rescued by an old Taoist priest.
Old Taoist priest: Your injuries have healed, you can leave now.
Qin Jin: I would like to become your disciple.
Old Taoist priest: Why?
Qin Jin: Learn magic, for revenge!
The old Taoist priest frowned: But I remember you mentioning that you've never met your relatives. Although you're related by blood, there's no emotional foundation. Why not let go?
Qin Jin: They've messed with me!
After listening, the old Taoist priest pulled a Desert Eagle from under the table and slammed it on the table: "Learn this, you'll learn this quickly."
Qin Jin: ?
Old Taoist priest: Why are you looking at me? Spear technique is also a kind of magic!
...
This book borrows some settings from Zone Zero, such as Aether and the Tower of Revelation.
However, the map is not the new Elidu, nor is it a replica of a country like "Dragon Kingdom" or "China" like in other urban fantasy novels.
This is a self-created country with a population of 700 million. Its composition and culture are based on my country to some extent, but not entirely copied, and its development process is also different.
For example, the next book may be set in modern society, but it may include an emperor.
The protagonist might learn Taoism, ether, or even magic in order to seek revenge.
However, I want to emphasize here that I always believe a complete story should end when it is meant to end.
Therefore, the protagonist will not cultivate immortality or explore a super-large map.
Just like this novel, Zone Zero, it should end when it's time to end.
An old man who doesn't die is a thief; a long story doesn't make it more exciting, it just makes it more tedious.
And at the end of my remarks, I want to reiterate a promise I made.
That is, [warming oneself by a fire].
Uh... I'm not a level 5 expert yet, just a level 4 ant.
Waaah, I was just one step away from being eligible to write a side story.
But I will still write.
I will post it in the book circle sometime soon, no later than this week. You can keep an eye out for the author's surprise appearance.
Lastly, I will update the book with Chapter 2 tomorrow, followed by Chapter 3, and then the regular updates from now on. I'm afraid everyone will have to wait until mid-March.
I hope everyone will come and support us!
Oh, right.
You've read this far, haven't you given the author a five-star review and followed them yet?
