"It's still so empty, and it's still a junior investigator assessment. It's so boring!"
Ruby had only been inside the cave for two hours when she became impatient, banging on a stick she'd somehow found, looking utterly bored.
Unfortunately, this trip to the Void was incredibly boring. The ether concentration was low, so the quality of the skeletons couldn't be improved, and the number of skeletons was pitifully small.
So far, the most powerful enemy I've encountered is Tyrfong, and each time they surround me, there are at most twenty or so Tyrfong.
Ellen and Fagga could easily take care of themselves by going out alone; it was so easy and comfortable, far less exciting than Zero Hole.
However, Ellen, who was protecting Ruby, twitched her lips, rolled her eyes, and complained, "This place is really terrible for not letting Miss Ruby have her fill!"
But Ruby wasn't happy to hear that, and pouted:
"What? You make it sound like I'm hard to please! If this were the Void Zero, I'd be being chased by Nineveh right now! Even if I couldn't beat the Void Zero, if this were when we first started school, I'd be racing cars by now!"
Hmm~ Isn't this easy to coax?
Eileen shook her head helplessly.
The once innocent girl's threshold for excitement was raised too high by the world's experiences, and now, looking back, her ordinary emptiness has become small and gentle.
Just then, Fagar, who had gone out to fight monsters, happened to return with an umbrella. Hearing Ruby's words, he was taken aback for a moment, then a smile appeared on the half of his face hidden under the umbrella. He said helplessly:
"Give them some leeway. This space was originally intended for the junior investigator assessment. We can't just block the path to the Butcher here, can we?"
"Alright then, I forgive it."
Ruby sighed, accepting her husband's weakness like a resigned wife, then crossed her arms and ran her fingers through her hair.
"Speaking of which, didn't the examiner say that the music box would play music continuously? Did you hear any music the whole way here?"
"No,"
Fagar shrugged, and Ellen shook her head as well.
If Fagga didn't hear it, then there's even less chance she could.
"That's really strange. We've circled the perimeter of this cave quite a bit. Could it be that the examiner took the music box deep into the cave to test us?"
Ruby touched her lips with her finger and walked past Fagga to the front of the line.
Eileen followed slowly behind, head down in thought.
Indeed, because it was a small hole, no one really gave it much face. Ruby's radish, while not the safest, was certainly enough to take a quick stroll around the entire perimeter of the hole.
If they still couldn't find the music box, then either it was taken deep into the cave by the examiner, as Ruby said; or the examiner forgot to turn on the music; or it was destroyed by Yi Hai who heard the music.
"We can't possibly have been led astray by the examiner; that would be incredibly negligent!"
Ellen stood with her hands on her hips, a hint of dissatisfaction subtly revealed in the downturned corners of her mouth.
After thinking for a long time, Eileen finally chose the most likely one to complain about from the three unbelievable possibilities.
Or did you forget to turn on the music?
This is even more dereliction of duty!
Or was it destroyed by the skeleton?
Have some confidence in Ruby; wherever she goes, she will not let any skeleton escape.
If it was truly destroyed by the skeleton, then we should have seen the corpse of the music box's unfinished mission along the way.
Since that's the case, after eliminating the two even more outrageous possibilities, the remaining one, no matter how absurd it may be, is still a proper beast!
"Hehe, never mind all that, let's go explore the depths of the cave!"
As she spoke, Ruby turned around and walked backwards, her hands behind her back, slightly bent over, and said with a grin:
"Look, it's still early. It wouldn't hurt to go in and take a look around. Besides, what if the examiner is really inside?"
Fagga and Ellen looked at each other, thinking that it did seem to make sense, and nodded to each other.
Ellen crossed her arms and opened one eye, saying, "Alright then, but Ruby, be careful too. The depths of the cave might not be as gentle as the outer areas."
"Hehe, I know!"
Ruby's eyes darted around before she smiled, her eyes narrowing. "But with the two of you by my side, what could I possibly encounter... hey hey hey hey~"
Suddenly, Ruby wasn't paying attention, and her left foot, which was leaning backward, stepped on a smooth pebble. She slipped and fell backward.
Bang!
