Chapter 44 "Which monkey spoke just now...?"
Bao'e stared at his face and felt a little flutter in her heart.
But in an instant, she regained her composure and said, "No, no."
"Why isn't it good?"
“I’m an honest person, and I won’t play games with you. I’ll just tell you the truth: I’m afraid your brother will kill someone.”
At that time, Bao'e ate a Nine-Turn Great Rejuvenation Pill and was able to ascend to immortality.
After ascending to heaven, she longed for the taste of the Nine-Turn Great Rejuvenation Pill. She also learned that Laozi had some alchemy skills, so she often visited his place. That's how she met the two brothers, Jinling and Yinyue, who guarded the golden and silver furnaces.
The two men looked exactly alike, but their personalities differed slightly.
Jinling was composed, but not one who could hide his thoughts; Yinyue was impetuous, but somewhat coy.
As time went on, Jinling confessed his feelings to Bao'e, and they gradually developed a secret relationship.
Unexpectedly, Yin Yue also had feelings for her.
He was unaware at first, until that day he stumbled upon the two of them, their clothes half undone, embracing each other.
Jinling pulled Bao'e into his arms and kissed her lips.
Bao'e then grabbed his hand and tried to sit down on him.
His precious jade whisk was also soaked and moistened, full of springtime feelings.
The gauze curtains were half-drawn, which enraged the Silver Moon Immortal Lord so much that he drew his sword and slashed at the bed.
With a single sword strike, the bed was cleaved in two, startling Bao'e so much that she fled in panic. It was only after a great effort that she found her master and managed to quell the trouble.
Upon hearing Bao'e's words, Jin Ling also remembered this matter.
He sneered, "What are you afraid of? He slashed at me with his sword, but he didn't cut you even a little bit."
Bao'e fell silent, standing still without moving, her eyes slightly vacant.
At this moment, the silver moon returned, carrying Tang Sanzang on its shoulder and Sha Wujing on its other arm.
He hurried into the cave, and when he saw Jin Ling, he suddenly stopped at the cave entrance and said with a smile, "Brother, you don't drink, what brings you to my cave?"
“Looking for someone, huh?” Jin Ling laughed. “Brother, that’s very dishonest. You brought Bao’e back without saying a word. Hiding her here secretly, people might think you have some ulterior motive.”
“Brother is joking. I’m quite familiar with Bao’e. I was afraid she would be frightened by those ugly little demons outside, so I told her to stay here in peace.” Yin Yue looked at Bao’e with a smile, “Bao’e, come here.”
When Bao'e saw Tang Sanzang and Sha Wujing, she exclaimed with delight, "Master, Wujing, why are you here too? Did you know I was here and come to see me?"
“Senior sister, don’t talk nonsense.” Sha Wujing sighed. “This demon disguised himself as a good person and said that he was injured and needed Master’s help. Master is a compassionate person. When he saw his bloodied legs, he was about to help him, but the demon captured him. I fought with him, but I was not as good as him and he carried me to this Lotus Cave in a gust of wind.”
Bao'e looked at Sanzang and nodded: "Good monk, what a filial monk. He was afraid that your father, who is a demon, would be hungry, so he traveled a long way to become his meat."
Upon hearing this, Sanzang was filled with shame and remained silent, not daring to look back.
“Master, why aren’t you saying anything?” Bao’e wanted to go forward and look at his face.
But Jin Ling grabbed her hand and pulled her back.
"Yinyue, you've come back at just the right time. There's something I need to discuss." He glanced at Bao'e. "Bao'e, after we get married, we'll let your master go west, okay?"
Before Bao'e could speak, Sanzang couldn't help but curse, "You demon, you are utterly shameless! How dare you incite my disciple like this!"
Jin Ling sneered slightly: "Old monk, don't say any more, or I'll eat you up."
Bao'e said, "Master, stop talking. What if I really eat you?"
“Brother,” the silver moon suddenly spoke, “I only brought back Sanzang and Sha Wujing, but I haven’t found that capable pilgrim. Without him showing himself, it’s probably not safe to either eat meat or get married.”
Jin Ling nodded: "Exactly, exactly. That Sun Wukong is quite capable, with many transformations and a lot of supernatural powers, but he's not easy to deal with. We must capture him as well before we can accomplish this good thing."
The two of them tied up Tang Sanzang and his disciples. Knowing that Bao'e was easily hungry, they prepared a table full of vegetarian food and found a few little demons to feed them.
Sanzang refused to eat, Sha Wujing dared not touch his chopsticks, and Bao'e, fearing the monks would scold her, also buried her head and said she wouldn't eat.
Then Jin Ling ordered a group of lesser demons to forcibly pry open Sanzang's mouth and force-feed him some food.
Bao'e had been saying "I won't eat, I won't eat" when she took another bite of the vegetarian bun the little demon handed her and swallowed it whole.
"But there wasn't even any soup," she said after swallowing.
The little demon then brought over a bowl of soup.
Bao'e kept her eyes fixed on Tang Sanzang and kept saying, "I won't eat, I won't eat!"
After saying that, he leaned over to the bowl and drank all the soup in one gulp.
Jinling guarded the mountain, while Yinyue, wielding the Seven Star Sword, went out of the demon cave to find Sun Wukong.
Bao'e was eating when a little demon approached her and whispered, "Senior Sister."
The simpleton looked up at the little demon feeding him and asked blankly, "Wujing, why have you gotten shorter?"
The little demon suddenly stuffed a mouthful of rice into her mouth, his tone flat and even: "Senior sister, don't speak, just listen to me. I am the white dragon horse in disguise. Now that Master is in trouble and Third Senior Brother is injured, and I am not good at transforming into human form, I can only rely on you to go and ask someone for help."
Bao'e continued chewing her rice and asked him, "Who are you inviting?"
“Go up Flower Fruit Mountain and invite the eldest brother.”
"No need, no need! That monkey is angry with Master and probably won't come." Bao'e comforted him. "Don't be afraid. That demon said that once I marry him, he will let Master go west. It won't delay the journey to the West."
Xiao Long sneered, "Do you really want to get married?"
The simpleton chuckled and said, "It's all for Master's sake, not for my own wishes."
"Today you get married, and it's our turn to go west. What if we run into some demons again tomorrow?" Little Dragon said. "Senior Sister, don't be lazy. You should focus on your journey to the West."
"But if I leave, what if that devil sends people to capture me?"
"Don't be afraid, senior sister. I will transform into your appearance and deceive him for a while. If he speaks to me, I will pretend to be deaf and dumb; if he asks me to move around, I will just keep eating and ignore him."
Bao'e said blankly, "These words sound like an insult to me."
The little dragon smiled and said, "Senior sister, don't overthink it. Just go find your senior brother. Don't mention getting the demon. Just say you missed him and that's why you went to see him. Then you can try to coax him back."
Bao'e said, "Difficult, difficult! I'm afraid that monkey won't agree."
She said this, but remembering the woodcutter's words, she finally broke free of the ropes, tied up the little dragon that had transformed into her likeness, and then turned into a whirlwind and flew away.
Good Bao'e headed east, which should have been a difficult journey, but the Bodhisattva gave her a piece of steamed bun, which made her as light as a feather. She floated lightly across the Eastern Ocean and was about to reach Flower Fruit Mountain.
Just then, someone called out to her: "Bao'e, Bao'e."
Zhu Bao'e looked in the direction of the sound and saw a slender young man standing quietly by the roadside, with delicate eyebrows, phoenix eyes, and a gentle smile on his face.
She recognized the man and was overjoyed: "Brother, why have you come? Gao Family Village is far away from here, how can you endure such hardship?"
It turned out that the person was Gao Cuilan.
He stepped forward and said, "I was guided by an immortal in a hazy state. He said that I would see you if I came to this place, and it really did."
Bao'e Hu hurriedly stepped forward: "Brother, you must be exhausted. What kind immortal is this, with such a kind heart?"
The young master then pulled her into his arms.
He squeezed her arm, his brows furrowed with unspeakable sorrow, and said, "Bao'e, it's not as arduous as the journey to the West. You seem to have lost weight, and your robes are a bit worn."
Upon hearing this, Bao'e could not bear it any longer and said with tears in her eyes, "Brother, these past three to five years have truly been quite difficult."
“Bao’e, Bao’e…” Gao Cuilan wiped away her tears, couldn’t stop kissing her cheek, and his eyes also stung. “If that’s the case, then come back with me. With endless glory and wealth, why suffer like this?”
This simpleton, however, was quite perceptive. He shook his head repeatedly: "No, no. If it were an easy thing to do, everyone would have gone. It's just a bit tough, but we can endure it. Brother, you should go back and not worry. I'll come back as soon as I get the scriptures from the West."
But Gao Cuilan refused to let go.
He gripped her arm tightly, his face deathly pale, and said in a trembling voice, "But Bao'e, I am just a mortal. If I wait a few more years, or even a decade or more... by then my beauty will have faded, and you will never come back."
Bao'e looked at him closely and realized that his appearance had changed in just a few years.
Her cheeks had lost some of their flesh, and a look of sorrow lingered between her brows and eyes.
Bao'e hesitated for a moment, then took out something wrapped in cloth from her bosom: "No problem, no problem! Brother, it's easy to ask for immortality. If you eat this fruit, even after a thousand years, you will look just like you do today."
She unfolded the cloth, revealing a ginseng fruit inside.
It turned out that Bao'e had secretly kept one, intending to give it to the traveler to eat. Now that she had seen Gao Cuilan, she simply cut off a small piece and gave it to him.
Gao Cuilan was stunned: "Bao'e..."
Just as Bao'e was about to speak to him, a group of monkeys suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
The monkeys laughed and frolicked, leaping and climbing trees, rushing up in a swarm. Not only did they separate the tall, precipitous walls, but they also lifted Bao'e up the mountain like ants carrying something.
Bao'e struggled and cursed, "You impudent monkey! You have no manners at all! You think I'm a corn cob and are just moving me around like that!"
The monkeys surrounded him, jumping around wildly or clapping and laughing.
Gao Cuilan saw this and wanted to follow, but a group of monkeys blocked his way.
Before long, Bao'e and the monkey troop disappeared.
He held a piece of ginseng fruit, looking like a lost and helpless cloud of sorrow.
In his dazed state, he heard someone say, "I told you long ago, with a heart as cold as hers, you can't win her over without keeping watch over her day and night."
The voice seemed to be beside his ear, and also in his heart.
Gao Cuilan frowned and remained silent for a long time.
Meanwhile, Bao'e was carried by a group of monkeys and went straight up Flower Fruit Mountain. In the distance, she saw the traveler sitting on a rocky cliff, one leg swinging casually and the other bent, looking very carefree.
He was surrounded by more than a thousand monkeys, all of whom shouted, "Long live the Great Sage! Grandpa Monkey!"
Bao'e understood: No wonder the monkey is coming back with such a grand entrance; it's much better than suffering that monk's humiliation.
The monkeys put her down, and she stood in the middle of the troop, looked up blankly, and called out, "Brother, I've come to see you."
The Great Sage crossed his legs and said with a smile, "Which monkey spoke just now? I don't recognize the voice."
