A Single Divination, Confession and Submission to Justice Completed

Chu Yueling, a top celestial master from the metaphysical world, accidentally transmigrates to Hong Kong in the 1990s. Faced with eviction due to unpaid rent, a young sister to care for, and only ten dollars to her name, she finds herself in a dire situation.

Seeing the mess left behind at a sugar water stall, she promptly borrows a cardboard sheet from a neighboring stall owner and writes two bold words:

Fortune-Telling, Feng Shui.

“Madam, your husband just checked into the Peninsula Hotel with three women.”

Thirty minutes later, a naked man was dragged out of the Peninsula by a knife-wielding wife.

“Sweet Cone Fai, let me warn you, don’t buy the lottery today, or you’ll go bankrupt.”

Three hours later, Sweet Cone Fai sat weeping, penniless, outside a diner.

“Huh? You’re a fugitive and you came to get your fortune read? Thirty years ago, you were behind the mass murder of the Shi family!”

One hour later, the thirty-year-old cold case at the Kowloon Police Station was solved.

From that moment, the small sugar water stall drew endless lines and quickly became the talk of Hong Kong.

— A corporate manager commits suicide, with a coffin nail driven into his head and blood streaming from his orifices. The truth? Insurance fraud through the murder of his wife.

— A young man ages overnight into a centenarian before dying suddenly. The truth? He had stolen someone else’s lifespan for luck.

With bizarre cases piling up, detectives from the serious crimes unit grow increasingly frustrated. Over time, they realize that many mysterious deaths seem linked to one particular sugar water stall.

Eventually, Chu Yueling is officially hired by the serious crimes unit as a fortune-teller. One bold reporter camps outside the mansion of a prominent business tycoon, waiting for hours to get a statement. Finally, the door opens.

A man nearly 1.9 meters tall, with a muscular frame and wearing loungewear, steps out. His eyes are cold, and his regal aura warns others to keep their distance.

The reporter freezes, then rushes forward to ask, “Inspector Zhou, the serious crimes unit has recently hired Feng Shui Master Chu to help solve cases. As a notoriously impartial investigator known as the ‘King of Cases,’ what’s your opinion on the police embracing superstition?”

Before the man can reply, Chu Yueling’s voice comes from inside.

“Zhou Sir, thanks for the clothes.”

The reporter is stunned. The man’s icy gaze softens slightly, and his deep, magnetic voice carries a hint of warmth.

“Apologies, you’re interrupting me pursuing my future wife.”

Notes:

The protagonist isn’t entirely virtuous and adheres to the principle of “evil begets evil” to the end.

“Sugar water” refers to Cantonese-style desserts.
