Chapter 13 The Old House Is Strange, Awaiting Nightfall

As night fell, Qin Nan finished tidying up and taking a shower. She glanced at Bai Hao, who was playing games on the sofa, hesitated for a moment, and then went to the Totoro's little villa to carry Totoro upstairs.

The adorable Totoro was carried back to the room by Qin Nan. Even after Qin Nan turned off the lights and went to sleep, the Totoro, who was being used as a pillow, still didn't understand why Qin Nan was hugging him. However, Qin Nan was his benefactor, and in his heart, he was no different from Bai Hao, so he obediently slept with him.

Bai Hao sat on the sofa, looking at the tablet without looking up, but the corners of his mouth couldn't help but turn up.

The next morning, Qin Nan got up early to prepare breakfast. She slept soundly while holding Totoro, who was happily munching on dried fish in the little villa. Getting dried fish for sleeping with her was a great deal! She was very happy!

Smelling the aroma of food wafting from the kitchen, Bai Hao sauntered into Qin Nan's room and stole a T-shirt.

He thought the little red bird was quite cute, and paired it with black casual pants and white sneakers—great, very suitable! As for age, he never cared; the age on his ID card was just something he wrote on randomly. Besides, if you're good-looking, you can wear anything.

Bai Hao glanced at the old man's photo on the altar in Qin Nan's bedroom. Qin Nan had gone out once before, presumably to bury the ashes. Bai Hao knew nothing about this old man. He couldn't help it; he might have known, but he had spent too much time with Qin Nan to know.

Bai Hao dressed and then leisurely went downstairs. Qin Nan had already put breakfast on the table: vegetable pancakes, tea eggs, and millet porridge.

Qin Nan turned to look at Bai Hao's clothes and really wanted to strip them off. Was he sure this was the kind of clothes he should wear to work?

But what should Bai Hao wear for his job?

Taoist robe? Monk's robe? Long gown or overcoat?

Forget it, let it be! Qin Nan didn't want to dwell on Bai Hao stealing his clothes again, but he's thirty years old, and he still... Sigh, he's the boss, let him do as he pleases!

Bai Hao was somewhat surprised that Qin Nan didn't say anything to him or try to take off his clothes. He had gradually gotten used to not knowing what Qin Nan was thinking, and of course, he didn't really care.

Not long after Bai Hao finished breakfast, Yang Zizhong arrived. He looked better and must have slept well last night.

After Yang Zizhong paid the advance payment, Qin Nan watched Bai Hao and the others drive away. Once the car was out of sight, Qin Nan suddenly realized that he didn't have Bai Hao's contact information.

Bai Hao has a cell phone but doesn't use it much. No one calls him when he's at home. He plays games on a tablet. Besides, Bai Hao has never left the house, so Qin Nan forgot about it. But he's already gone, so there's nothing she can do.

Qin Nan asked Bai Hao, who said that no guests would come before he returned. So Qin Nan closed the door, tended to the plants and vegetable garden in the house, fed the fish, and cleaned up the house.

She also cleaned up her grandparents' room. Since it was empty because only the two of them lived there, Qin Nan cleaned it, put out bedding, and decorated it simply so that it would be useful if guests stayed there.

Qin Nan didn't go up to the third floor. He didn't want to clean up yet. Since he had nothing else to do, Qin Nan picked some osmanthus flowers to make wine. After making it, he put it in the small cellar next to the osmanthus tree in the vegetable garden.

It's called a cellar, but it's just a small space, not even big enough for one person. It can only be used to store wine or pickled vegetables. There's a jar of wine inside that's been sealed for a year. Qin Nan is counting down the days until it's opened again. It's wine that her grandfather brewed a long time ago.

The cellar was locked and not available for rent. There was only one jar of wine inside, and Qin Nan added two small jars of osmanthus wine. After placing them, Qin Nan closed and locked the cellar door.

He looked up at the still lush osmanthus tree, its fragrance wafting through the air. He thought it would be perfect to pick some more to make some steamed buns, osmanthus cakes, and osmanthus candy for Bai Hao to eat when he returned.

It was just Qin Nan and Long Mao at noon, so I kept it simple and made a stir-fried bok choy and a cold lotus root salad. Long Mao could hold the lotus root slices and eat them.

Qin Nan ordered some dried fruits such as melon seeds, pine nuts, almonds, and walnuts online. She also planned to buy some pork to make snacks like melon seed crisps, candied pine nuts, and pork jerky. She also planned to prepare some cured meat and fish for next spring.

Life was so boring that all Qin Nan could do was think about what to eat every day, otherwise she would be as bored as Bai Hao, with nothing better to do than play video games.

After lunch, Qin Nan stayed in the house, busy making delicious food. Totoro smacked his lips and munched on dried fruit. Watching Qin Nan busy in the kitchen, he felt that the happiest thing in his life was Qin Nan cooking in the kitchen. There was nothing more pleasing to the eye.

Just as he was thinking this, he suddenly sensed a hint of malice. Totoro bristled and stared out the window with his little eyes. Outside, the sun was shining brightly and birds were singing.

The Totoro cautiously scanned the entire house twice to make sure everything was alright. After making sure there was really nothing wrong, it stroked its fur and sat down to eat, watching Qin Nan busy herself.

Unlike Qin Nan's leisurely pace, Bai Hao followed Yang Zizhong and left the old town by car. They traveled on the highway for four or five hours before arriving in the city.

Unlike the leisurely atmosphere of the old town, the new town is bustling with traffic and pedestrians. After passing through the bustling city, the car drove towards the villa area on the outskirts of the city.

Yang Zizhong was still somewhat reluctant to go home. He had one hand in his pocket, tightly gripping a white chess piece, and kept looking up at Bai Hao in the rearview mirror, who was sitting in the back seat with his eyes closed, seemingly resting.

The car stopped, Bai Hao opened his eyes, glanced at the villa, and looked towards the second-floor bedroom area. Something seemed to be looking at him, but Bai Hao ignored it, opened the door and got out of the car.

"Boss Bai, this is it!" Yang Zizhong looked at his house with lingering fear. "My family has all moved out. Only the housekeeper, Dayong, and I live here."

"You didn't see anything?" Bai Hao suddenly turned to ask his bodyguard, Da Yong.
