Chapter 3534 Siege of the Yaks

Hongli rode atop a tall horse, with a majestic cattle-catching team of about a hundred people behind him. In the snowy winter on the grassland, the prince stood against the wind, looking quite imposing.

Looking at the vast white land with herds of migrating yaks, Hongli was very pleased. If he could capture all these yaks and bring them back to the army camp, it would surely solve the food shortage problem for his 200,000-strong army.

Xueying, who was traveling with them, was also beaming with joy. She rode on her horse and looked back at Pichu. The two smiled at each other, seemingly in perfect sync.

However, this scene was witnessed by Hongli, who happened to turn around. Although Pichu was just a foreign servant taken in by Xueying, seeing his concubine looking into the eyes of another man made Hongli feel quite uncomfortable.

"All soldiers, listen to my command! Encircle these yaks from all sides, hunt them down, and bring them back to the camp. Those who hunt the most yaks will be the heroes of our Great Qing army's food supply, and will be richly rewarded upon returning to camp!"

"Yes, sir! I obey!"

Upon receiving the order, more than a hundred soldiers immediately dispersed and bravely charged into the yaks, launching a fierce hunt.

The yak herd, perhaps never having seen such a sight before, froze in place. After several of their companions were killed by Qing soldiers, the lead male yak roared and, with several strong bulls, charged straight at the leading Qing soldiers.

With the aid of warhorses, the Qing soldiers were all brave and skilled in battle, and a hundred or so men surrounded the frightened yak herd.

The blood of their own kind spurred the yaks into chaos, and the originally orderly migrating herd broke into disarray. The leading male yak charged at the nearest Qing soldiers, and a fierce struggle ensued between the humans and the yaks.

The male yak was exceptionally brave. It fought against the three Qing soldiers who arrived, but was eventually pierced through the body by a spear and fell down with a mournful cry. The yak that followed was completely enraged and launched a frenzied attack on the Qing soldiers riding warhorses beside it.

For a moment, the battle between man and bull was extremely fierce. The soldiers' heroic shouts and the bulls' collisions, along with the screams of pain, filled the air. The scene was somewhat bloody, but Hongli, who was used to seeing swords and shadows, naturally did not mind.

Xueying followed behind Hongli and saw the blood shooting into the sky. She felt a tightness in her chest and a severe dizziness. When she opened her eyes and saw the conspicuous bloodstains on the white snow, she felt nauseous.

But thinking of the 200,000 soldiers in the camp who were starving, Xueying gritted her teeth and persevered. She reached out and picked up her felt cloak to cover her mouth and nose, which finally relieved her physical discomfort.

When Hongli turned around and looked at her with some concern, Xueying smiled slightly and said, "Your Highness, rest assured, this difficulty is nothing for the sake of 200,000 Qing soldiers."

Hongli was relieved and rode over to personally fix her cloak.

“This place is poor and desolate; I shouldn’t have brought you here to suffer.”

"Your Highness is too kind. I am Your Highness's concubine, and I should share your joys and sorrows. If I were to delay the battle because of my actions, I would truly deserve to die. Your Highness, please rest assured at the front. I am fine."

Seeing the battle between man and bull growing increasingly fierce, Pichu behind him simply drew the dagger from his waist, mounted his brown warhorse, and charged into the herd. He was exceptionally brave among the cattle, slaying several aggressive yaks in succession.

After instructing his men to take good care of Xueying, Hongli, armed with a suitable weapon and accompanied by his personal attendants, personally charged into battle.

Xueying stayed behind, enduring her physical discomfort, and watched the battle situation ahead with worry.
