Chapter 259 Not Cannon Fodder (Part 1)

Xiang Wan still couldn't believe it. An Shui'er was younger and prettier than her, and He Yang was taken very well by her. If the three of them stood together, anyone would think that An Shui'er and He Yang were a couple, and that she was just like their nanny.

Since then, every time He Yang came back, Xiang Wan would look through his phone, ask him what had happened at the company, and even get He Yang's colleagues to tell her about his recent situation.

This paranoid behavior caused He Yang immense distress. When Xiang Wan saw him working with An Shui'er again, she threw a tantrum. At that moment, He Yang looked at her as if she were a stranger. Xiang Wan panicked, constantly apologizing and taking even better care of He Yang's needs.

However, not long after, Xiang Wan received He Yang's divorce papers. Unable to accept this fact, Xiang Wan threatened suicide and jumped from the building, breaking her leg in the process.

He Yang resigned and took care of her in the hospital for a long time. After she recovered and was hospitalized, he moved out and lived alone.

Looking at her empty home, Xiang Wan cried hysterically, spending every day in tears. Her parents traveled a long way from their hometown to take care of her and comfort her. Xiang Wan was immersed in the pain of being abandoned, and did not see the heartache in her parents' eyes, nor did she see the gray hair that had turned white on their heads.

He Yang would come back every now and then to visit and do what he could for the two elderly people. As for Xiang Wan, her eyes would only light up when he came.

She and He Yang lived like this for most of their lives, never divorcing, but always living apart. An Shui'er remained single and never married.

One day, Xiang Wan suddenly woke up and saw that her parents' legs had become weak, and they needed to support each other on their way back from grocery shopping. He Yang, who occasionally came by, had white hair. And she herself had become a middle-aged woman whose youthful beauty had faded.

In this marriage, there is no right or wrong. Her actions have tormented others, herself, and her loved ones.

Xiang Wan calmly signed the divorce agreement. Watching An Shui'er and He Yang leave together, she realized that in this marriage, she had never known how to be tolerant and understanding. She only knew how to give and forget herself.

For the rest of her life, she cared for her parents, saw them off, and lived out her life in solitude.

Unbeknownst to her, Xiang Wan was already in tears, for herself, for the years gone by, and for the neglected family ties. If this was the inevitable ending, should she choose to let go? Was this marriage she was unwilling to relinquish driven by resentment, or by love?

As her tears gradually stopped, Xiang Wan fell into confusion.
