Early in the morning, Shi Lan got up and steamed a tray of fried buns. She also prepared some pickled vegetables that the family had kept in a jar, mixed them with sesame oil, and then ate them with relish.

The sound of several people getting up and walking around outside the door came from outside. Shi Lan wiped her mouth, glanced at the two remaining steamed buns, and smiled slightly.

A moment later, the door was pushed open, and Shen Chen walked in with some surprise.

"You're up so early?" He took two steps forward, somewhat curious. "What delicious food have you made?"

Shi Lan said indifferently, "Didn't you see it? A sweet-filled steamed bun."

Shen Chen's eyes quickly scanned the area.

The half-open steamer was already half empty, and the dish of pickled vegetables next to it emitted a faint fragrance, except that there was a chip in the part closest to her hand.

Shen Chen pushed up his glasses with a knowing look, swallowed the saliva that had been rapidly secreting from his mouth, and laughed, "It looks pretty good, but I wonder if I'll have the luck to eat it?"

Shi Lan smiled, pushed the stool aside, stood up, and said, "I've finished eating. Anyone who wants the rest can take it."

Shen Chen laughed and said, "Then I won't be polite." As he spoke, he took a pair of chopsticks from the chopstick box standing against the wall, picked up a steamed bun, and took a big bite.

A subtle sweetness, mixed with the unique chewiness of the steamed bun, spread through Shen Chen's mouth. He squinted, chewed a couple of times, and only after swallowing did he breathe a sigh of relief. "This is what people should eat."

Shi Lan pursed her lips, understanding that he was implying that last night's dinner was terrible, inedible, but so what? Once a man's testosterone surges, he doesn't care about his appetite.

Wasn't the original owner taking good enough care of them back then? But what happened later? They all awakened their superpowers and thought the original owner was just a burden who could only cook and wash dishes. Even though the original owner only ate half full every day, she still had to suffer their intentional or unintentional exclusion.

"Eat quickly if you can, otherwise when Guo Dabao comes later, you won't even be able to get any oil," Shi Lan said casually, then turned and left.

Shen Chen slowed down his chewing, but didn't say anything. He just lowered his head, picked up two pieces of pickled vegetables, and put them in his mouth.

The door was gently closed, and a dark light suddenly appeared in Shen Chen's eyes. His usually refined and elegant face was twisted slightly by the fullness of food.

After it was fully light, Minghao finally managed to swallow the slightly burnt porridge that Liu Hui had cooked, and then hurriedly got up to call everyone to get on the bus.

Shi Lan had already finished her meal. When Ming Hao arrived, she was already sitting by the window, holding a nearly new machete that she had found again.

Liu Hui, who was following closely behind, held onto the car door. When she saw Shi Lan, she hummed softly. Just as she was about to speak, Shen Chen pushed her from behind. Although she didn't say anything, Liu Hui was smart enough to suppress her urge to cause trouble. She turned around and gave Shen Chen a charming glance before turning to the back seat. Shen Chen shook his head helplessly at Shi Lan and got into the driver's seat.

Shi Lan turned her head calmly, completely ignoring Guo Dabao who had eagerly followed her into the back seat, and slammed the car door shut with her right hand.

The car passed through the houses and onto the main road. Shi Lan stared intently ahead. A few withered tree trunks stood sparsely on both sides of the dark blue road, and in the distance was a meadow full of reeds, bleak and desolate, showing the coldness of winter.

Minghao opened the map and studied it for a while, then suddenly exclaimed with delight, "After two more intersections, we'll be able to enter the town!"

Shen Chen glanced at the map, a smirk playing on his lips, and stared straight ahead.

Liu Hui giggled twice, "Great! Now there's no shortage of water. I can finally take a nice hot bath."

Guo Dabao quickly volunteered to go to the supermarket to help her carry more bottled water. Liu Hui rewarded him with a kiss, and Guo Dabao kissed her back. The two laughed and hugged each other.

Shi Lan glanced coldly at these people, inwardly scoffing.

A few meters away, a few zombies emerged from the reeds and clumsily climbed up a slightly higher curb. Just as they were about to climb onto the road, Chen Chen floored the accelerator and sped past them, smashing the zombie's rotting, blackened arm and sending it flying.

The car jolted violently, making a dull thud. Liu Hui broke free from Guo Dabao's embrace, sat up in alarm, and craned her neck to look outside.

"What is that?"

Shen Chen slowed down the accelerator and said, "It's nothing."

Liu Hui turned her head and looked through the dark glass behind her. All she could see was a desolate landscape. She said irritably, "Be careful, we don't have a spare tire."

Shen Chen pursed his lips, lowered his eyes slightly, and remained silent.

Minghao frowned and flipped through the map with a loud rustling sound.

Shi Lan seemed to have suddenly gone blind and deaf, remaining motionless, her head tied in a bun, staring intently outside, silently calculating the time it would take for the car to encounter the zombie 'tide'.

Twenty minutes later, the car slowed down. Minghao put away the map, grabbed the long knife from under the seat, and got out of the car.

Shen Chen grabbed his military knife and shouted to Guo Dabao, "Hurry up!" before following him down.

Shi Lan flung open the car door and followed closely behind. Two steps behind, Guo Dabao, carrying an axe, swaggered over, saying, "We're almost there, and we still run into these disgusting things."

Minghao had already lit up the heads of two zombies ahead, and Shen Chen was also fighting with two zombies. Shi Lan took a step forward, knocked one of them down, ignored Shen Chen's thanks, and swung her machete again.

Within minutes, the four men finished their fight. The three men moved the cars and trucks blocking the road to the side, clearing a path for vehicles to pass, before they stopped.

Back in the car, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Shen Chen glanced at the slightly tired Ming Hao and said, "There are no forks in the road ahead. You can rest for a bit. We'll have a lot to do once we get to town."

Minghao nodded, leaned his head back against the chair, and closed his eyes to rest.

The car had just started moving on the straight asphalt road when, after passing only a few cars, a group of dark blue-green human figures suddenly appeared in front of it. A rough count showed that there were at least thirty or fifty of them.

Shen Chen gasped and quickly reversed the car. Looking up, he saw five or six zombies approaching side by side in the rearview mirror.

"What should we do?" Shen Chen's voice trembled slightly.

Minghao opened his eyes and stared intently at the zombies climbing up the hood of the car. He said, "I'll clear the front. You two clear the sides. Chenchen, keep an eye on the direction. Let's rush through."

Guo Dabao yanked open the car door, his tall frame completely blocking the open doorway. He chopped down the zombies that tried to pounce on him with an axe. Shi Lan stood by the door on the other side, her figure slender, but her technique was exceptionally sharp, no less impressive than Guo Dabao's.

Minghao then opened the car window halfway and launched fireballs to clear away the zombies blocking his way.

Shen Chen pressed the accelerator, gripping the steering wheel tightly with all ten fingers, trying his best to keep the direction from veering off course amidst the bumps.

One zombie after another fell, and the pressure of the encirclement gradually decreased. Just as the car was about to break through the encirclement, Shi Lan suddenly felt a strong force strike her. She felt like a floating duckweed, and was forced to fly towards the zombie waving its hands.
