“Your brother’s soldiers look very elite. They were obviously prepared. Didn’t you notice anything beforehand?” Yun Zhe looked at Wood curiously.
Wood shook his head. "It's ridiculous, but when my brother returned with a team of fifty men, my father praised his team in white helmets and armor, saying that their military bearing was impeccable and inspiring."
"Military appearance represents combat effectiveness," Yun Zhe said, leading his horse inside the gate so he could better assess the current situation.
Seeing reinforcements rushing in from the gate, the soldiers in white helmets and armor switched from offense to defense, their shields lined up in rows as they slowly advanced.
Luke and another knight, presumably Nyrent, escorted the three of them back step by step to the gate.
Yun Zhe, however, subconsciously began to observe the architectural features of the ancient castle. The castle wasn't large; inside the main gate was a circular plaza surrounded by high walls. Above the walls were crenellations and living quarters. Four staircases connected the walls to the ground, and there were two smaller doors on either side of the main gate. Compared to its residential function, the castle seemed more suited for military purposes.
Yun Zhe was observing the crenellations when he suddenly saw a row of people in white helmets and armor on the crenellations, all holding bows and arrows and aiming them at the crowd in the square.
"Watch out!" Wood shouted, attracting the attention of an archer upstairs, who turned to aim at Wood downstairs.
Yun Zhe raised his hand, but another arrow had already struck the archer before him. The archer fell to the ground, which also frightened the other archers into temporarily retreating.
A graceful figure leaped down from the wall. In the moonlight, the girl was quite tall, with a slender waist and long legs. She wore leather armor, held a longbow, and had a longsword at her waist. Her simple ponytail swayed behind her head, and silver ornaments on her head shimmered in the moonlight.
"Hurry, the other two gates have already been captured. Stone brought not fifty men this time, but two hundred!" The clear voice was full of urgency.
Yun Zhe raised his hand and shot an archer who was peeking out with an arrow, killing him instantly.
The girl turned her head sharply and saw Yun Zhe and Wood in the doorway.
The girl is so beautiful. Under the moonlight, you can see that she has the face of an oriental girl, but her eyes are a mesmerizing ice blue, which is very impressive.
Wood endured the pain and straightened up, only to collapse again a second later. Sensing Wood's inner turmoil at that moment, Yun Zhe couldn't help but smile.
But to the girl, that smile seemed somewhat frivolous. Anger flashed in her eyes, and then she drew her longbow to its full extent, pointing it straight at the crenellations on the upper floor. The soldiers dared not look up and could only fire a few arrows haphazardly.
Everyone retreated into the doorway, while outside the gate, the sound of hooves rang out, and a troop of cavalry, brandishing their weapons, surrounded them. Beside them was a troop of infantry, their white helmets and armor gleaming brightly in the firelight.
Seeing the cavalry approaching, a soldier who had just disarmed stood up and ran towards the cavalryman in the firelight. Yun Zhe raised his hand and shot an arrow, pinning him to the ground.
The captain, seeing his soldiers pinned to the ground, was filled with rage and his gaze toward Yun Zhe was filled with murderous intent.
"You are surrounded. Put down your weapons," the captain shouted with a sneer.
Indeed, they were surrounded. At this moment, more than thirty soldiers guarded both sides of the gate, while outside on both sides were more than a hundred soldiers in white helmets and armor.
