Chapter 14 Unbearable Days

Lin Qinghuan stared at the black snake blocking the road, her body tense, her heart pounding in her chest. She prayed incessantly that the snake would leave quickly.

The black snake raised its head and looked at Lin Qinghuan, seemingly having no intention of leaving.

Lin Qinghuan spotted a stick by the roadside, quickly picked it up, and lashed it a few times on the ground. The black snake was frightened and fled.

Lin Qinghuan breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully, she had escaped danger and turned misfortune into good fortune.

When Lin Qinghuan returned home, she saw Lin Piaoxue sitting at the entrance of the main room eating watermelon. When she saw Lin Qinghuan come back, she threw the watermelon rind on the ground and turned to go inside.

Lin Qinghuan casually placed the basket at the kitchen door, walked into the kitchen, and eagerly took the water ladle to scoop water from the water vat to drink.

Lin Qinghuan gulped down several mouthfuls of water, and finally came back to life.

Lin Qinghuan opened the cupboard and saw that the lean meat and pig liver were gone, leaving only a bowl of fatty pork and a bowl of stir-fried cowpeas. A mocking smile appeared on her lips.

Lin Qinghuan brought the dishes to the table, and her mother walked into the kitchen and said angrily, "Lin Qinghuan, where have you been since you started doing any work?"

Lin Qinghuan didn't answer her mother. Instead, she filled a bowl with rice and sat down at the table to eat heartily.

She was hungry and didn't want to pay attention to Lin's mother.

Seeing that Lin Qinghuan was only focused on eating and ignored her, Lin's mother felt that Lin Qinghuan did not respect her and that her dignity had been challenged. She was so angry that she slammed her hand on the table, making the dishes shake twice.

"Lin Qinghuan, are you deaf? Can't you hear me talking to you?"

Lin Qinghuan looked at her mother with an icy expression, her beautiful eyes flashing with a sharp, cold light. She stared intently at her mother, who seemed frozen in place, her breathing slowing down.

Lin Qinghuan looked away and continued eating.

Lin's mother was frightened by Lin Qinghuan, and her face showed shame and anger. In a fit of rage, she put all the dishes on the table into the cupboard, refusing to let Lin Qinghuan eat them.

Lin Qinghuan narrowed her eyes, a cold glint flashing within them. "If you do this again, we'll all go to hell together."

Lin's mother's expression suddenly changed, and she blurted out, "What do you want to do? I'm your mother!"

"Mom, you're not my mom. I don't have a mom like you, and you don't deserve to be my mom," Lin Qinghuan said coldly.

After finishing her sentence, Lin Qinghuan ate the last bite of rice in her bowl, placed the bowl and chopsticks on the table, and looked coldly at her mother, saying, "If you don't feed me next time, I'll smash the cupboard. I'll also go to the police station to ask if they handle cases of child abuse. In short, if I don't have a good time, neither will you. We'll all go to hell together. I wonder if the Lin family's reputation will be ruined, and whether that will affect the marriages of your three precious sons and daughter."

Lin's mother's face was filled with worry and fear, and she said stiffly, "You dare?"

Lin Qinghuan stared at her mother with a chilling expression and said, word by word, "I dare. I am no longer the Lin Qinghuan who used to swallow her anger. If I go to hell, I will take you all with me."

Looking at Lin Qinghuan's ruthless expression, Lin's mother couldn't help but take a step back, a layer of horror appearing in her eyes. She now believed that Lin Qinghuan was really capable of doing such a thing.

Lin Qinghuan left the kitchen, found a bag, put the black grass into the bag, put on a straw hat, and walked out of the house with the bag in her hand.

Seeing that Lin Qinghuan was about to go out again, Lin's mother hurriedly chased after her to the front gate, wanting to stop her from leaving and tell her to go water the vegetables in the garden. However, remembering what Lin Qinghuan had just said, she stomped her foot in anger and watched Lin Qinghuan walk further and further away with a disgruntled expression.

Lin Qinghuan carried the bag and walked quickly towards the edge of the village. All she had was one yuan. She was penniless and felt anxious because she had no money. She had to go to the city to sell the black grass and save some money for herself.

Under the blazing sun, the intense sunlight beat down on the earth. There was not a breath of wind, and it was both stuffy and hot. Large beads of sweat streamed down Lin Qinghuan's forehead, soaking the back of her clothes.

Lin Qinghuan was exhausted and hot, and she secretly groaned. She had never suffered like this before. Bitterness filled her heart, and tears flashed across her eyes.

Lin Qinghuan looked up, took a deep breath, suppressed the tears in her eyes, and told herself to be strong.

Lin Qinghuan walked haltingly, her legs feeling as if they didn't belong to her anymore. She longed to stop and rest for a while, but she couldn't, and dared not. She had to get to the city as soon as possible, find a traditional Chinese medicine shop, and sell the black grass.

A car drove past Lin Qinghuan, leaving her with a mouthful of dust. Lin Qinghuan spat several times and gave the departing car the middle finger. Damn it, having a car doesn't make you special. She used to have a car, a house, and a high salary.

Lin Qinghuan thought about how penniless she was now and couldn't help but lower her head in despair. Damn it! She had fallen from heaven to hell in an instant. She couldn't live like this anymore.

Life was unbearable, but she had to keep going. Lin Qinghuan resigned herself to her fate and continued to move forward, her heart filled with unspeakable bitterness. She was like a little cabbage in the field; even though her father and mother hadn't died, no one loved her.
