Chapter 777 Strong Attack

The next day, around 11 a.m.

Inside the bunkers surrounding the Macedonian military factory, alarm bells blared.

The lookouts hurriedly lowered their binoculars, rushed down from the lookout tower, and hurried towards the military factory.

Shortly after, Davis, who was in the operations command center, received an urgent message from the sentries.

"The Yan Kingdom is leading a large army towards us from the west!"

Upon hearing this news, Davis did not show too much panic on his face. He had barely slept a wink last night, just thinking about when the Yan people would launch their attack. He guessed it might take a few days, after all, they had just finished a battle. But if they really did launch an attack in a short time, that would be normal, because it seemed to be their style.

He calmly and collectedly issued the order: "Hold your posts and defend to the death. Our fortifications can withstand their attack!"

"Yes, sir!" The messenger took the order and left, while Tacino followed with a grave expression, saying:

"Sir, Harris was right after all. The Yan people launched an attack so quickly."

Davis said with a cold expression, "This time, the Yan people's attack is no longer a small-scale skirmish like before. They will definitely use all their artillery for continuous bombardment."

"Be prepared, this is going to be a tough battle to defend."

As soon as the words were spoken, everyone in the command room turned grim, the pressure of the impending battle weighing on each and every one of them.

It is located four kilometers west of the Macedonian military factory.

The Yan Army artillery battalion, which was on the march, arrived at their destination. Upon arrival, they immediately constructed an attack line on the spot, with forty cannons in each row, totaling ten columns, and three hundred and twenty cannons facing west of the Macedonian factory.

At twelve o'clock, a command was given.

"Bang bang bang bang bang!"

The sudden burst of gunfire was deafening, and hundreds of shells whistled towards the Macedonian military factory's fortifications!

The artillerymen had already measured the distances during the previous day's firing, so the accuracy of the shelling launched at this moment was significantly improved. Without exception, all the shells in the first round of shelling hit the fortifications.

"Boom boom boom!"

The sturdy bunker was subjected to relentless artillery bombardment, with explosions ringing out incessantly. Although the Golt soldiers inside the bunker had long been mentally prepared, the destructive power of the shells falling directly overhead still made them sweat profusely.

Dust was constantly falling from above, and the soldiers pressed against the wall could even feel a slight tremor. Although the bunker had been reinforced in the past few days, the shelling they were receiving was far too intense, even more so than the day before.

Previously, the enemy's shells landed in various places and were not concentrated, but today was different. At this moment, the enemy's shells were particularly concentrated, and the bunkers became their primary targets. Under such intense bombardment, no one knew how long these fortifications could hold out.

Amidst their anxiety, shells rained down wave after wave, and some of the firing windows on the bunkers were even damaged. This made the Golgar gunners inside realize that the situation was dire, and they quickly dragged the cannons to the corner of the wall. After all, they had no way to launch an artillery barrage now. The Yan army was too far away, and their own shells could not possibly hit them. They would only have a chance to launch a counterattack when the enemy troops began to advance.

At the entrance of a factory building in the middle of the factory area, Davis was watching the shelling from the west. This place was nearly a kilometer away from the western bunker and was the core location of the military factory, so he was not worried that the shells would hit here. However, seeing the fierce attack launched by the enemy at this moment made him feel increasingly uneasy.

"Sir, please come in. The soldiers will report the current situation to us." Tacino, standing inside the factory, called out nervously to Davis outside the door.

"It's alright, they can't shoot this far." Davis didn't even turn his head, still looking outside.

As the main target of the Yan Army, the bunker became the center of concentrated fire, but some shells still passed over the bunker and fell into the factory area. Therefore, Davis ordered everyone to evacuate into the fortifications early on, and the factories at this time became the best defensive fortifications.

The furthest distance between the factories is only a few hundred meters, so if the enemy were to force their way through, the soldiers inside could react in time to intercept them. But this is definitely not what Davis wants to see; the best defense is to keep the enemy out.

Seeing the enemy's current offensive, Davis's worries grew stronger.

“Sir, I don’t think they can attack for long. They just finished a battle yesterday, so they don’t have that much ammunition left,” Tacino said at this point.

Upon hearing this, Davis turned and glanced at him, then silently walked towards him.

“I hope so,” Davis said as he walked past Tacino, who was covered in sweat.

——

At five o'clock in the afternoon, the sky was already darkening. Outside the Macedonian military factory, inside the Yan Army camp.

Qin Ze, holding the binoculars, slowly withdrew his gaze. Several hours of bombing had yielded some results; the bunkers were in ruins, and the walls were riddled with craters. Unfortunately, even though they had become dangerous walls, they still stood firm.

However, this was within Qin Ze's expectations. After all, this was a Gothic military factory; how could it not be sturdy? He then coldly gave the order:

"Let the cavalry move out now!"

"Main force, prepare for battle! Once the city walls collapse, charge in immediately!"

"Yes, Your Majesty!" The messenger acknowledged the order and departed.

Immediately afterwards, several cavalry squads galloped toward the military factory in longitudinal formation.

As the cavalry charged forward, the Golgar defenders inside the bunker immediately reported the news to Davis.

This urgent message alerted Davis to the impending enemy offensive, and he immediately gave the following order:

"Intercept them! Don't let them charge!"

However, this order was difficult to carry out. The Yan army launched a single-sided bombardment, and there were only two bunkers on that side. Although there were dozens of firing windows in the bunkers, many of them had been blasted open after an afternoon of bombardment. The gunners had to be careful of stray bullets that might fall in, and they also had to aim and fire. However, the enemy was not launching a full-scale attack, but rather advancing in small columns, making it difficult to intercept them all.

The ground troops that should have been there were unable to intercept them at this moment, because under the endless bombardment, the two-meter-high defensive lines on the ground, which were temporarily constructed of sandbags and stones, had long been destroyed, and even the infantry inside the lines had been evacuated to the more fortified factory.

Even so, the defenders still tried their best to attack the advancing Yan army column. As the cavalry charged closer and closer, the lookouts in the bunkers changed their expressions drastically when they saw the packages carried on their backs.

Those were explosive charges.
