Chapter 778 Collapse

"A bomb?!"

When the messenger brought the message back to the operations command center, Tachino was shocked and his face changed instantly.

"Yes, it should be explosive charges. The enemy soldiers charging towards us are all carrying a package on their backs," the messenger said in a flustered manner.

"Stop them! Don't let them get any closer!" Davis roared, sweat dripping from his forehead and his face ashen.

"Sir, we've done our best to kill them, but we simply can't eliminate them all; our firepower is insufficient."

Without further hesitation, Davis gritted his teeth and said, "Barkley, take the troops from Factory No. 4 and let them launch an attack on the front line."

Upon hearing this, an officer immediately stepped forward, his face turning pale.

"Yes, sir!" He saluted, and without the slightest hesitation, turned and left.

The position had already been bombarded and was still within the enemy's artillery range. Going to the front line to hold off the enemy at this time would be a certain death, but it was something that had to be done, since the enemy was already launching a desperate attack regardless of their own lives.

As Berkeley walked out of the command room, Tacino's lips twitched, and he unconsciously clenched his sweaty palms.

Berkeley led the soldiers from Factory One to the front lines, and amidst the constant barrage of shells, he led his men in an attack on the Yan Army cavalry column that was charging towards them.

With the fire support of ground troops, the advancing Yan army cavalry suffered increasing casualties, but this did not stop them. Although cavalrymen died on the way to the charge, some still managed to break through the line of fire and successfully reach the bottom of the bunker. They immediately took out explosive packs from their bodies and placed them by the wall, but the power of several dozen kilograms of explosives was still too small to blow up a wall, and more was needed.

Fortunately, cavalrymen continued to charge forward, and as they reached the wall one after another, the casualties actually began to decrease after the wall became a protective barrier.

In contrast, the Golt soldiers in the military factory position suffered casualties to the point that almost every one of them was blown up within minutes. However, similar to the Yan army, they also received a steady stream of reinforcements.

In the command center, Davis had already dispatched three generals, none of whom returned after being sent out. In less than an hour, he knew that his side had lost at least several thousand men, but even with such casualties, the news he received was getting worse and worse.

More and more enemy cavalrymen carrying explosive charges rushed to the foot of the bunker. Davis knew that an explosion was probably unavoidable. Perhaps in the next moment, the enemy would ignite all the explosive charges, and then the main enemy force would definitely break in through the breach.

He still didn't know how many troops the enemy had, but judging from their victory over reinforcements yesterday, even after suffering casualties yesterday, their strength was certainly not small, otherwise why would they launch a general offensive today?

Davis's complexion grew increasingly worse, and he was drenched in sweat, his hands gripping the table.

At that moment, a fearful voice quietly sounded in his ear:

"Sir... I think the Yan Kingdom people will be storming in very soon. With such a powerful attack, their forces might number in the hundreds of thousands..."

"Should we...prepare to retreat first?"

As soon as the words were spoken, Davis turned his head sharply to look at the person who had spoken, and instantly, an expression of disbelief appeared on Davis's face.

The speaker was Tacino, whose tall frame now appeared somewhat hunched. His face, with its thick eyebrows and large eyes, was covered in sweat, and his eyebrows were drooping in the shape of the number eight. His face showed not only worry, but also deep fear.

“What did you just say?” Davis asked in a deep voice, frowning.

Davis's sudden question caught Tacino off guard. He glanced hastily at the two other officers beside him, then turned to Davis and whispered again:

"I mean...should we prepare for an evacuation? After all, right now..."

Before he could finish speaking, with a loud "bang," Davis slammed his hand on the table, his face contorted with rage!

"There is absolutely no possibility of evacuation!!!"

"If the Yan people invade, annihilate them all! Kill as many as they come! If they launch a strong attack, we will hold our ground! The military factory will never fall!"

Tacino's face stiffened, but he still said, "Sir, but you know what's happening now..."

His words were interrupted again, and Davis, furious, pointed a finger at Tacino's face and shouted angrily:

"Enough!"

"There is no retreat; we will hold this place!"

"Did you understand?!"

Davis's stern rebuke made Tacino's face grow even uglier, and he had no choice but to turn his gaze to the other two.

"Yes, sir! We will defend the military factory to the death!" the other two officers shouted in unison.

Tacino bit his lip and said weakly, "Understood, sir."

The words had barely left his mouth.

Boom!!!

A deafening explosion suddenly rang out, and the ground even trembled at the sound.

Everyone's expression changed drastically. Davis could no longer care about anything else; he rushed out of the command room, and the people inside followed suit.

Boom!!!

Another loud bang rang out, and Davis, who was running, stumbled and nearly fell to the ground. Before he could even leave the factory, soldiers rushing in from outside began shouting in panic:

"Sir! Both bunkers have been destroyed!!"

Davis turned pale and, amidst the soldiers' shouts, rushed out of the factory, looking westward.

Thick smoke and dust blotted out the sky and even blocked out the moonlight. The ruins of the collapsed bunkers were clearly visible, a scene of broken walls and rubble. The strong smell of gunpowder in the air lingered even after the explosion. The infantry at the front line were affected by the huge blast wave and were almost completely wiped out.

Amid the ruins, clusters of flames burned, illuminating the area in a fiery red glow, with thick black smoke rising into the night sky above them.

"Whoosh!!!"

At that moment, a deep and powerful bugle call sounded, followed by the rapid, thunderous sound of iron hooves.

"kill!!!"

Amidst the sound of hooves, countless roars and shouts of battle filled the air, the deafening cries of the steel torrent crashing in with unstoppable force.

"It's over."

Tacino muttered something, his face ashen, and turned to look in the east.
