"Stop them...stop them!!!"
After a very brief moment of disorientation, Davis roared, his face flushed red.
At this moment, soldiers were pouring out of the three factories near the west, rushing toward the breach that had been blown open, trying to stop the Yan army from entering. The violent explosion had come too suddenly, and they knew they needed to plug the breach as soon as possible.
Outside the military factory, the Yan Army's artillery battalion had advanced one kilometer. With the bunkers no longer blocking their path, they immediately began a deeper bombardment. Heavy explosive shells whistled through the breach, covering an area of up to one kilometer inside the military factory.
The Golt army, which was trying to plug the gap, thought that the Yan army would send cavalry to charge directly, but what came to them first were cannonballs with great destructive power.
"Boom boom boom!"
Hundreds of shells fired into the air began to explode, landing everywhere. The flint-paved ground was scorched black by the bombardment. As for the Golt army's defensive line below the bunker, it had long since become a ruin. The Golt defenders who had previously fought there were now completely buried under the ruins, their bodies gone without a trace.
After a period of fierce fighting, Davis realized that the breach was absolutely impossible to close. Not only could it not be closed, but his troops even had to retreat, otherwise the shells fired in would kill them all.
Left with no other choice, he gritted his teeth and issued a new order:
"Retreat to the back of the factory and use the cover to hold off the enemy!"
"The moment the Yan people enter, give them a good thrashing with cannon fire!!!"
Shortly after the order was given, the troops around the breach began to retreat to defend. They needed to withdraw to a place with cover to launch an attack, but this meant that the enemy would rush in without restraint.
And indeed, after shelling for more than ten minutes, the Yan army cavalry, who had been waiting outside the military factory, immediately scaled the ruins and rushed in.
The cavalry that charged in were in columns, and their numbers were extremely sparse. But at this point, the Golte garrison didn't care about anything else. As soon as they saw the Yan army enter, they immediately opened fire.
Although their artillery accuracy wasn't particularly high, it still had considerable power at this distance. In a short while, the Yan army cavalry that charged in first suffered some casualties. However, because the Yan army advanced in columns, with a distance of five to ten meters between each column and four to five meters between each cavalry unit, they were able to avoid some of the incoming shells to a certain extent.
While solid shot is quite powerful and can kill a person or horse if it hits, its inability to explode means that its destructive power relies more on high-density saturation attacks to achieve significant results.
In that environment, the Goths did indeed use nearly three hundred cannons to fire, but even so, some still managed to slip through the net and enter the factory area amidst the gunfire.
Upon entering the factory area, the Yan army cavalry did not immediately seek cover to launch an attack. Instead, they immediately dispersed and galloped in different directions.
With more open terrain, the cavalry had more room to maneuver, and the amount of artillery fire they were exposed to while moving at high speed was immediately reduced to a minimum.
The Götterd garrison simply couldn't keep shifting the direction of their artillery to aim at the cavalrymen who were running around in all directions. This wasn't because they didn't have enough artillery; after all, it was a military factory, and weapons were the last thing they needed.
However, cavalrymen were still pouring into the gap, and as the source, that was the most important place. The most efficient way to kill these cavalrymen who had entered the factory area was to fire volleys of gunfire.
Just like now, squads of Golgar infantrymen, wielding muskets, pulled the triggers at the sound of commands.
"Bang bang bang bang bang!"
Amidst a cloud of smoke, a hail of bullets rained down on the Yan Army cavalry. The cavalrymen lay prone on their horses, kicking them with their spurs. The horses, in pain, neighed and galloped at full speed. Bullets whizzed through the air as the cavalrymen began a race against the bullets fired by the Golgar infantry.
Warhorses can't outrun bullets, but they can certainly outrun infantrymen's reloading speed.
Watching the cavalrymen running around in all directions, the Golgar infantrymen were both anxious and angry, sweat pouring down their faces. They hurriedly loaded gunpowder, stood the butts of their rifles on the ground, and frantically stuffed bullets into the front barrels.
Although they don't all reload at the same time, their shooting accuracy is already low. When dealing with cavalry that are moving at high speed, it often takes one person dozens of bullets to effectively kill one person. At this time, the slow reloading speed makes their killing efficiency even lower.
Therefore, in a short while, although the cavalry suffered another round of casualties, they had already scattered to various parts of the factory area, using the factory buildings as cover, and at the gap, more and more cavalry were now pouring in.
Under these circumstances, Davis, located in the heart of the military factory, was so anxious that his face turned red. He roared angrily:
"Quickly organize a front, centered on Factory No. 4, to stop the Yan people from infiltrating! We absolutely cannot allow any more of them to infiltrate!"
"Yes, sir!"
The messenger ran out with this particularly difficult order.
The difficulty lay in the timing of the order's issuance. Within the hour or so since the breach was blown open, numerous enemy soldiers had already infiltrated the factory area. At this point, abandoning Factories 5 and 6 and establishing a defensive line centered on Center 4 would be a belated attempt to salvage the situation.
