Chapter 404 Leisurely Living

Gu Ye and Bao Ni looked at the newspaper with great joy. It felt wonderful to see their novels printed in print.

Decades later, with the internet so developed and various platforms emerging, print media has lost its influence. Getting an article published is no longer something to be proud of.

On various platforms, there are too many short essays with over 10,000 clicks; they've become commonplace.

In the late 1970s, television was not yet widespread, and newspapers were the mainstream. So, Gu Ye was very excited that his wife's novel was being serialized in the newspaper.

Bonnie was also happy. This was different from the short essays she wrote online; this was a newspaper, mainstream media.

However, Bonnie was more concerned about the royalties; she still liked money.

Bonnie took the letter and carefully looked at the payment the newspaper offered: five yuan per thousand words, which wasn't low.

She sent out 20,000 words before, and the remittance slip showed 100 yuan. Her novel has a total of more than 400,000 words, so she can earn more than 2,000 yuan!

"Gu Ye, Gu Ye, my royalty rate is five yuan per thousand words. I can earn more than two thousand yuan for the whole novel, haha..."

Bonnie was overjoyed with the remittance slip. She was not good at business, did not understand stocks, and could not become a trendsetter like others.

However, writing some novels and earning a little money is still an option.

Gu Ye couldn't help but laugh when he saw his wife's greedy expression.

"Gu Ye, let's go out for dinner tonight, something nice, to celebrate."

"Okay, my wife will treat us to dinner."

The two happily made the decision, and Bonnie went to revise the manuscript again, hoping to finish it as soon as possible and mail it out so she could receive the payment.

When Liu Jiu and San Qi came back, they were very excited to learn that their mother's novel had been published in the newspaper. They thought their mother was amazing.

The family of four went out for a delicious meal.

In the following period, Bonnie spent most of her time coming up with short stories about menstrual hygiene, not only for teenagers but also for women's gynecological issues.

Gu Ye resumed his normal get off work schedule, except that he would return to the courtyard house after work, wherever his wife was.

During this time, Bonnie received news from the island that her grandfather's brother had not survived and had passed away half a month after her grandfather returned home.

Grandpa suffered a setback and fell ill, so his health isn't as robust as before. As people get older, each illness takes a toll, damaging their bodies to some extent.

Qiaoqiao was taken by her mother, and the two of them had a great time, though they were a little flustered at the beginning.

Bonnie's parents are now fully focused on taking care of her grandparents' health, hoping they can live a few more years in good health.

Bonnie knew this was the outcome; the loss of her family, friends, and acquaintances would be a huge blow.

However, her grandfather was determined to go back, and she couldn't stop him.

A week before the start of the new semester, Xuanyu and Xuanyi returned. Gu Ye sent someone to pick them up at the station. Gu's sister-in-law prepared a lot of things for the two brothers to take back.

"Second Aunt, let's go take a shower first, we smell terrible."

Xuan Yu and his companion's clothes were all wrinkled, and he himself was almost overwhelmed by the stench.

"Brother, you two have gone bad, you're all sour and smelly. I'm so sorry to have you sitting on the train for several days in this weather, it must be quite a stench!"

Sanqi not only teased her two older brothers, but also deliberately fanned herself with her hand to prove that what she said was really smelly.

Gu Xuanyi was even tempted to go and give Sanqi a good beating.

He's so cheeky. But then he smelled himself and thought, oh well, he wasn't wrong.

Bonnie told the two boys to take a shower first; they were covered in sweat, so much so that you could practically extract two ounces of salt from them.

It was hot, so Bonnie went into the kitchen to cook some cold noodles. There was still some meat sauce she had made that morning, as well as some cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden. By the time Xuanyu and the other guy finished showering, the noodles were ready.

"Second Aunt, I don't think I have the courage to make that trip again, especially in the summer, it's too hot and too far."

After eating a bowl of noodles, Gu Xuanyi felt revived and began to tell his second aunt and the others about his experiences along the way.

"My parents can't come back anytime soon. They're very busy there. We've been there for over a month, and we haven't had a proper meal together. They're always out early and back late."

Let me tell you, there are so many people doing business over there. Many people go there to buy goods, and there are a lot of pickpockets on the trains.

We were in a sleeper car, and people were stealing things. There were fights, and we even encountered a group of human traffickers. It was so chaotic!

Gu Xuanyi sighed and continued eating his noodles. He really preferred the food in Beijing. He truly couldn't get used to the food there, and it was incredibly wise of him not to go with them!

How are your parents?

Bonnie was asking about Xuan Yu; Xuan Yi was still young and could only see the surface of things.

"It's alright. My dad's efforts over the past year or so have paid off, and the results are starting to show. It's just that he's been too busy, and he's lost weight and gotten tanned."

My mom is also busy with work. With a large population flow, there are more things to do. There aren't any major issues, but there are always small things to deal with.

They complemented each other and achieved good results.

Gu Xuanyu didn't sit idle during this trip either; he helped his father organize documents, and he was well-informed about many things.

"That's good. There are many things you can't help with right now. Just do your own thing well, that's helping."

"Understood, Second Aunt."

Sylphy didn't quite understand, but he still answered enthusiastically.

"Let's eat, Xuanyu. Tomorrow, take Xuanyi to visit your grandparents. Your mother brought them some things, right? Go early, have lunch, and then come back."

Bonnie looked at Xuanyu; she knew that the child understood the reasoning behind it.
