Chapter 54 Bonnie gave birth to a big, healthy daughter

A few days after Gu Ye returned, he received a call from his older brother, Gu Ze, who had welcomed another baby boy, who was already a month old. Gu Ye had been away on missions and hadn't received his brother's call before.

Gu Ye told Bao Ni the news, and Bao Ni was happy for her older brother and sister-in-law, as long as they were safe and sound.

Medical conditions were relatively backward in that era, and it was difficult to save someone who had a difficult childbirth.

Bonnie also pays special attention to controlling her food intake, and cannot eat too much, because if the baby is too big, it will be very dangerous for her to give birth.

Bonnie traded some exquisite tiger-head shoes and hats from the island team, and also some dried seafood, which she asked Gu Ye to send to her older brother and the others as a full-month gift for the baby.

During this time, Gu Ye didn't go on any more missions or patrols at sea, staying on the island. Bonnie felt much more at ease, quietly awaiting the birth of her child.

Bonnie's baby hasn't been born yet. Grandma told me that her sister-in-law is also pregnant. She just found out and isn't even three months along yet.

My eldest child is almost four years old, so it would be nice to have another one. The two children are close in age, so they can play together. This avoids the situation where they fight because they are too young, and also prevents them from playing together because they are too far apart in age.

Bonnie has made up her mind; she wants two, whether they're boys or girls.

One child is too lonely, two are just right. As parents, they can take care of them, but if there are more, they won't be able to manage.

Bonnie didn't want her children to grow up like many children in this era, left to their own devices and barely better than kittens or puppies. Since she brought them into this world, she had to be responsible for them; otherwise, she'd rather not have them at all.

Bonnie had heard her grandmother tell stories of the past, saying that back then, families had four, five, or even six children, and parents simply couldn't take care of them all. The older children always looked after the younger ones, and the parents were exhausted every day just trying to feed them all.

There's no time to listen to them properly. The children are just left to their own devices, running off to play during the day and coming home hungry at night. If the children misbehave, they're beaten with sticks until they obey.

Bonnie doesn't judge whether that approach is right or wrong, but she doesn't want her child to grow up like that.

Another month has passed, and Bonnie is now more than eight months pregnant. When she stands up, she can no longer see her toes, as they are completely hidden by her belly.

Gu Ye couldn't sleep soundly every night and was easily startled awake, fearing that Bao Ni might give birth at any moment, and would wake up at the slightest sound.

"What's wrong? What's wrong?"

"My leg cramped up."

"Lie still, let me massage you." Gu Ye sat up and gently pressed on Bonnie's legs with both hands. They were a little swollen, and his massage had left dents.

With Gu Ye's massage, Bonnie fell asleep in no time.

Gu Ye massaged for a while and then lay down.

"What's wrong? Are you having another cramp?"

Before Gu Ye could even fall asleep, Bao Ni sat up again.

"No, I need to go to the toilet."

Frequent and urgent urination is common in late pregnancy.

Gu Ye helped Bao Ni to the living room, where there was a spittoon. It was a bit cold going out at night, and he was afraid she might trip or fall, so he could relieve herself in the spittoon.

Not much urine came out. Bonnie squatted down and stood up, covered in sweat.

That night, after several attempts, Bonnie was praying in her heart, "Please let me give birth soon, I can't take it anymore."

After listening to the fetal heartbeat again, Dr. Yang said it was almost time; the baby had already engaged in the pelvis and was in the correct position, so there was no need to worry.

"Thank you, Dr. Yang. I really hope to come out soon; it's so uncomfortable."

"When the melon is ripe, it will fall from the vine; it won't come out until the appointed time."

"That's true, raw talents are hard to raise!"

"I could hear your voice from far away. You look great!" Zhao Yuan walked in, holding a list.

Why are you here?

"She's pregnant!"

Zhao Yuan waved the test results in her hand; the results were in.

Congratulations!

Bonnie was surprised to hear about pregnancies one after another recently, first her sister-in-law, and now Zhao Yuan is also pregnant.

"Sigh, I'm just afraid I won't be able to manage it all by myself!"

Zhao Yuan had never experienced hardship since childhood and never worried about anything. This time, coming to the island to start living on her own, she was initially very flustered and made many embarrassing mistakes, crying countless times.

There was nothing she could do; that was her status. What else could she do? Several people in her circle had already been demoted. She had been living in fear for days and had lost all motivation.

Bonnie didn't wait for Zhao Yuan. She was a little hungry and needed to go home to eat something. She felt anxious when she was hungry.

When she was nine months pregnant, her grandmother moved in again. Bao Ni was about to give birth and her grandmother was worried about her.

"Gu Ye, I think I'm going into labor."

"I'm about to give birth, what should I do? Does my stomach hurt?"

"Grandma, yes, I'm looking for Grandma."

Gu Ye turned around on the kang (a heated brick bed) muttering to himself, his hands and feet not moving in unison.

"Gu Ye, calm down, go and call Grandma."

Gu Ye steadied himself and got out of bed to call his grandmother.

"Grandma, Bonnie is about to give birth, we need to go to the hospital." Gu Ye, having broken the curse, returned to his previous calm demeanor.

"Are you about to give birth? Then hurry up and get dressed, and grab your things."

"I understand, Grandma."

When Gu Ye returned to his room, Bao Ni was already dressed.

"Sit still, I'll be right there." Gu Ye changed his clothes with the speed of an emergency assembly, grabbed his bag, and walked out holding Bonnie's hand.

"We're at the hospital now, so take it slow."

Grandma gave her instructions, and she also took great care not to cause any trouble.

When they arrived at the clinic, only the doctor on duty was there; Dr. Yang was not present.

The on-duty nurse ran to find Dr. Yang, and Bonnie and the others began the admission process.
