Chapter 73 The Typhoon Sweeps By and Goes By

After the seedlings were grafted, Bonnie would check on them every few days to record their growth and check for any diseases or failures to survive.

Seaweed seedlings can also get sick, but there are currently no medicines to treat them. When Bonnie is on patrol, if she finds a diseased plant, she quickly pulls it off, puts it in a bag, and takes it to land to bury it.

Time passed slowly. Besides checking on the seaweed seedlings, Bonnie spent her time in the family compound taking care of the children. Life was monotonous but not boring. Liu Jiu, who spoke fluently, could chat well with her mother; sometimes the two would disagree and even argue.

In early August, Bonnie returned from checking on her seaweed and was in a good mood. In just over a month, the seaweed seedlings had grown quite a bit.

Aside from a few that didn't survive at the beginning and a few that got sick in the middle, the rest are doing well. Bonnie is keeping a close eye on them, and as soon as she notices anything abnormal, she quickly removes it to prevent it from infecting the other healthy ones.

Bonnie imagined her bountiful seaweed harvest next spring, and the thought alone made her happy.

Bonnie never expected her dream to shatter so quickly!

It's been raining for days, and I haven't seen the sun. Everything feels damp and uncomfortable. Liu Jiu is the same; she has developed a bit of eczema on her legs, which is very itchy and makes her very irritable.

"Gu Ye, I feel like the weather is a bit off. It's been so long since we've seen the sun."

"It is quite unusual, but our current weather forecasting capabilities are limited, and there is no indication of anything abnormal at present."

Bonnie also knew that during this period, many domestic technologies were lagging behind, and foreign countries were blocking technology, so we relied on imports for many things.

The next day was a rare sunny day, with the sun shining brightly.

Bonnie and Liu Jiu happily took out the clothes and bedding from home to air them out; if the sun didn't come out soon, mushrooms would grow.

It was a great day; a rare sunny day, and my mood was bright too.

It got windy in the evening!

Bonnie sensed something was wrong. She locked the two chickens in the side room and checked the windows again to make sure they were intact. Liu Jiu, caught up in her mother's anxiety, wandered around the yard.

It was already dark, and Gu Ye still hadn't returned, nor had he sent a message explaining the situation. Bao Ni noticed the wind outside was picking up, wondering if a typhoon was approaching. She wondered if her older brother and the others had gone out to sea; in this weather, they shouldn't be able to go out.

"Mom, will Baiyang cry?"

"Huh?" Bonnie slapped her forehead, realizing she had forgotten something. She had forgotten to tell Zhao Yuan to close the windows and doors tightly. She hadn't encountered bad weather since she arrived.

Bonnie put a coat on Liu Jiu, picked her up, and ran towards Zhao Yuan's house.

"Zhao Yuan, Zhao Yuan..."

Bonnie called for a long time, but there was no response.

Bonnie fiddled around outside for a while before finally opening Zhao Yuan's door. Once inside the yard, Bonnie banged on the door.

"Zhao Yuan, Zhao Yuan..."

"Bonnie, Bonnie..."

Hearing Bao Ni's voice, Zhao Yuan staggered over and opened the door.

What are you doing?

The two children huddled on the bed inside, their eyes filled with terror.

"Bai Chaoyang hasn't come back yet. The wind is too strong, and the noise is frightening."

"There might be a typhoon tonight. Have you checked the doors and windows? Secure them with wire or rope. Have you fetched water from the house? Have you prepared firewood?"

Zhao Yuan was stunned. She hadn't done anything. After the wind picked up, she got scared and hid in bed with her child.

Bonnie gave up on Zhao Yuan and tied the windows shut herself. The water tank was almost empty, the firewood was running low, and the wind outside had picked up considerably.

“Zhao Yuan, the wind is getting stronger again. No, you have nothing here. Why don’t you and the child come to my house? Gu Ye hasn’t come back either.”

"Okay, okay, I really don't know how to do it myself." Zhao Yuan quickly packed up the children's things, went to the kitchen to get some food, picked up Bai Yang, led Bai Song, and followed Bao Ni out.

Bonnie carried Liu Jiu, letting the child perch on her shoulder, and walked ahead carrying Zhao Yuan's things. Bai Song followed behind Bonnie, tugging at her clothes, while Zhao Yuan carried Bai Yang. The group struggled to make their way through the wind.

The wind whipped up sand and dust, making it impossible to open one's eyes. Occasionally, a broken branch would come flying towards you, almost scratching your face.

After a lot of effort, the group finally arrived at Bonnie's house.

"Come inside quickly, I'll check it one more time."

Bonnie put the child inside and left him in Zhao Yuan's care. She then tied the yard gate tightly and closed the kitchen door, sealing it with large stones. In the yard, the ripe vegetables had already been picked and arranged outside. Bonnie went inside and closed the door tightly.

Zhao Yuan played with the children on the kang (a heated brick bed). The two trees were no longer frightened and played happily with Liu Jiu.

"Thank you, Bonnie. Compared to you, I feel like I'm not a good mother. All I do is cry when something happens. The two children were scared just now."

Bonnie could hear Zhao Yuan's frustration. The once outspoken Zhao Yuan had been like a frightened deer lately, constantly on edge.

“I grew up on an island, and typhoons are a common occurrence for islanders. You haven’t experienced it before, but you’ll get used to it later.”

Bonnie isn't good at comforting people; her words come out dry and uninspired.

"Pfft..."

Zhao Yuan laughed. She felt sorry for Bao Ni; she wasn't very good at comforting people.

The atmosphere was much better. The wind outside was still howling, but the fear was gone.

The wind, carrying debris, blew against the glass windows, making it feel like it would shatter the glass and rush into the room at any moment.

The children immediately hid behind Bonnie, as if that would make them feel safe.

"Alright, let's go to sleep. The wind won't stop anytime soon." Bonnie got out of bed and pulled the curtains shut.
