Chapter 99 Sharing the Same Misfortune

Ji Chen's initially delighted face immediately fell. After all the commotion, he finally understood that Jiang Xue had absolutely no feelings for him.

"Watch the child, I have something to do. Take Shaoheng back later and bring two sets of clean clothes."

After giving her instructions, Jiang Xue went into the room, took out some sesame seed cakes and chestnuts, and said to Ji Chen, "Thank you. Today's meals will be deducted from my salary."

Ji Chen glared at Jiang Xue, who was keeping a great distance from him. Was she not trying to be friendly at all?

Jiang Xue searched room by room and finally found room 3005.

She knocked on the door, and a middle-aged woman wearing a wool coat, high heels, and gold-rimmed glasses opened it for her.

Jiang Xue thought she had gone to the wrong room. She checked again and confirmed that she hadn't gone to the wrong room. This was the 3005 that Uncle Li had mentioned.

"I'm looking for Uncle Li."

The woman in the coat quickly turned around and called out to Mr. Li, "Brother, I'm looking for you."

"Who is it?" Uncle Li, holding a towel, came to the door. Seeing it was Jiang Xue, his annoyed face immediately softened into a kind expression. "Little sister, it's you! Are you feeling better, little girl?"

"You're asleep. I brought you some food. We also live on the third floor. I haven't had a chance to thank you for helping me so much today." Jiang Xue smiled and handed over some sesame cakes and chestnuts.

"Oh, come in, come in and sit down. Don't be so polite with your uncle. It's not easy for a mother to raise two children alone. I understand."

The woman in the black coat looked on in surprise. "She looks so young, yet she's already had two children?"

Jiang Xue instinctively tried to explain, "No, neither of them are my biological children. I'm raising them for someone else, but now the children call me 'Mom'."

As Jiang Xue spoke, her face was filled with happiness.

She saw the old man lying in bed, breathing weakly. He was so thin that he was skin and bones. She could feel that the two siblings were very reluctant to part with him.

She was about to get up and leave when, unexpectedly, the woman suddenly burst into tears in front of Jiang Xue.

Jiang Xue felt a little flustered, wondering if she had said something wrong.

Jiang Xue sat awkwardly on the bench, unsure how to comfort her in this situation.

"If the two children you adopt in the future become successful in their studies and are busy with their careers all day long, will you feel like you raised an ungrateful child?" The woman wiped away her tears and sat down by her mother's bedside.

Jiang Xue smiled gently, "No, I'll be happier the better they are. Adopting them is to raise them well. If I weren't going to raise them properly, why would I adopt them?"

Jiang Xue glanced at the two of them innocently, never expecting that such a simple sentence would cause the brother and sister to hug each other and cry.

Jiang Xue felt completely numb. She thought to herself that she should just stay silent and leave. The two of them seemed to be carrying heavy burdens, and she didn't know which words might trigger their painful memories.

“We were adopted by my mother. My mother never married. My brother and I quit our stable jobs a few years ago and chose to go into business. Sigh…” Mr. Li sighed with great guilt.

“My husband and I went to do business, leaving our elderly mother at home without a care. We only came because our neighbor wrote to us saying that our mother was dying,” Mr. Li said, shaking his head.
