Chapter Twenty-Four: Removing the Gu
After dinner, Yue Huai said goodbye.
He walked out of the Shao family's courtyard and onto the narrow path.
Before long, he walked into the forest by himself. Seeing that no one was around, he circulated his spiritual power and cultivation, learned the hand seals of Jingwu to open the Ghost Gate, and recited the incantation his master had taught him, trying to summon the Ghost Gate.
When the incantation was finished, there was still no reaction in the silent forest, and the solemn and majestic vermilion gate did not appear in mid-air.
Yue Huai frowned, wondering where things had gone wrong.
Ever since he saw Jingwu open the Ghost Gate, he had recalled her movements and moves countless times, and there was absolutely no way he could have misremembered them.
But why can't I summon the Gate of Hell?
Yue Huai thought it through carefully, and then tried it again.
There was still silence in mid-air, with no reaction whatsoever.
Undeterred, Yue Huai tried twice more, but still failed.
He sat down on the rock, somewhat disheartened, and couldn't help but doubt himself.
He was smart since childhood and could learn anything after seeing it once, but why couldn't he learn how to open the gate of hell?
Although, it is said that very few people in the Xuanmen sect can successfully summon ghosts.
Before seeing Jingwu open the Ghost Gate, he always thought that he had to cultivate to the Nascent Soul stage before he could summon it.
Now that he saw that she, with her Foundation Establishment cultivation, could successfully summon the Ghost Gate, he realized that even those below the Nascent Soul stage could summon the Ghost Gate.
Yue Huai had a strong conviction: since there was an example, he could succeed too.
But he couldn't figure out where things went wrong, so he decided to return to the Xuanmen sect and ask his master for advice.
With that thought in mind, he chanted the teleportation spell and returned to the Xuanmen.
At the Shao family's residence, Jingwu finished his meal, washed up, and returned to his attic.
She sat by the bed, noticing the abundant spiritual energy tonight, and then sat in meditation under the moonlight to absorb it.
However, she noticed something was wrong as soon as she sat down to meditate.
Today, the spiritual energy only lingered around her, but could not enter her body.
why is that?
Jingwu was puzzled. She tried to touch the spiritual energy, but the small golden light that she touched quickly disappeared.
Her brows were furrowed, her mind filled with doubts.
If you can't absorb spiritual energy, the spiritual energy in your body will eventually run out, and you won't be able to use spells, which will put you under a lot of control.
Although merit can be converted into spiritual power, the amount of merit gained from helping one person is far from enough.
Jingwu looked out the window not far away, and a thought flashed through his mind: Could it be that the spiritual energy in this land is no longer able to be absorbed by itself?
She felt this was very likely, so she decided to find another place with abundant spiritual energy the next day to give it a try.
After Jingwu came up with a solution, he stopped worrying about it and immediately lay down to sleep.
The next morning, after teaching the Shao brothers, Shao Chengyang and Shao Chengmin, martial arts, he hurriedly left home.
She went into the back mountain and chanted a teleportation spell to reach the highest mountain.
Looking down over the entire Pingyao County, he saw which area above had the most abundant spiritual energy, and then chanted a teleportation spell to teleport to that place.
Wherever she went, she would sit down and try to absorb spiritual energy.
But after visiting five different places, I still couldn't succeed.
Jingwu sat atop a mountain brimming with spiritual energy, his brows furrowed as he watched the tiny golden dot that could never enter his body.
Why is that?
She thought about it for a long time, but still couldn't figure out the reason.
As it grew dark, he used a teleportation spell to go home.
Jingwu couldn't understand why this was happening, so he decided to write a letter to his master to ask him.
After finishing dinner, she immediately went up to the attic and activated a sound transmission talisman by chanting a spell.
After seeing the runes on the talisman shimmering, he asked all the questions he wanted to ask, and then chanted a spell to send it back to Shuangcheng Temple.
After doing all this, Jingwu finally breathed a slight sigh of relief.
She sat on the bed and converted all the little merit she had left into spiritual power.
It seems I'll have to set up a stall every day to earn merit, otherwise my spiritual energy will run out sooner or later.
After Jingwu transformed into merit, he lay down on the bed and fell asleep shortly afterward.
The next day, after exercising with the two brothers as usual, we went to South Street.
With the weather getting warmer recently, Shao Che has been busy tilling the land to grow more grain, and he hasn't had time to accompany her to set up her stall.
Jingwu didn't pay any attention and chanted a teleportation spell, arriving at South Street. She sat down at the stall and suddenly smelled the aroma of steamed buns, only then belatedly realizing that someone was missing from her side.
After having dinner at his home that night, Yue Huai was never seen again.
However, he has nothing to do here, so he should go back to Xuanmen.
Just as Jingwu was thinking this, the two of them walked up to the stall and stood there.
She looked up and saw two familiar faces.
Miao Yue, still dressed in a black robe and adorned with many silver ornaments, nodded at her.
"I've come to keep my promise and bring Awan to remove the curse."
Yi Wanzhou stood to the side, her face full of reluctance.
Jingwu didn't know how Miao Yue had convinced her, but once her cousin's curse was lifted, this matter was no longer on her mind.
"Okay, I'll take you to find my cousin."
Jingwu stood up, greeted Chen Er from the steamed bun shop, and then led the two men toward the Zhushu Academy.
The three of them remained silent on the way. Just as they reached the entrance of the academy, they saw Yan Shengming and Shao Chengrui come out.
Yan Shengming saw them first and immediately greeted them with a smile: "Master, what brings you here?"
In the blink of an eye, he saw Yi Wanzhou, and a hint of fear flashed in his eyes.
He quickly realized that they must have brought them here to remove the curse from Brother Chengrui, so he stepped aside.
Shao Chengrui looked at his cousin with a smile and reached out to pat her head: "Awu, what brings you here?"
"I promised to remove the curse from you before you go to the imperial examination." Jingwu smiled and looked up, pointing to the two people next to him: "I brought them here to remove the curse from you."
Seeing Yi Wanzhou's reluctance, Shao Chengrui's eyes flickered with a hint of unease, but he didn't pay it any mind and simply nodded.
"Then let's go in first."
Jingwu nodded and followed him inside.
A group of people walked to Shao Chengrui's room, which suddenly became crowded.
Jingwu looked at Yi Wanzhou, who was still not moving, and said, "We can begin."
Yi Wanzhou pretended not to hear; she was a hundred times unwilling to come and remove the curse.
After all, Shao Chengrui ruined her entire plan. Now, she can no longer marry into the county magistrate's family, and even her father, after learning about this, is planning to adopt another child from a collateral branch to inherit the family business, reneging on the family fortune he had originally promised her.
If it weren't for her aunt saying that if she didn't come to remove the curse, she would have to feed all the Gu worms she raised to the Gu King, she wouldn't have had to come.
She really didn't understand why her aunt was so afraid of these sorcerers!
“Ah Wan.”
Seeing that she didn't take any action, Miao Yue spoke up to remind her.
When Yi Wanzhou saw that her aunt had spoken, she reluctantly walked up to Shao Chengrui to remove the curse.
She took out a small, exquisitely carved bottle, uncorked it, and placed it in front of Shao Chengrui's nose.
The room was instantly filled with an enchanting fragrance.
Shao Chengrui felt something crawling inside his body, from his brain all the way to his eyes and then to his nose.
The next second, a black worm crawled out of his nostril and fell into Yi Wanzhou's palm.
Yi Wanzhou carefully placed the Gu worms, then took out a red pill, stuffed it into his mouth, and made him swallow it.
Then she walked behind Miao Yue and said, "I'm done."
After checking that Shao Chengrui was indeed alright, Jingwu nodded.
Then, she looked at Yi Wanzhou and said, "If I catch you again next time, I won't let you off so easily."
Yi Wanzhou curled her lip, a hint of disdain flashing in her eyes. Next time they meet, it's hard to say who will let whom off the hook.
Miao Yue, of course, knew what her niece was thinking, and immediately said a few pleasantries to shut her up.
Without giving her a chance to speak, they immediately took her away.
Seeing the two leave, Jingwu looked at his older cousin and said with a smile, "My stall is still on South Street, I have to hurry back."
Shao Chengrui was still a little dazed, but he nodded when he heard her say that.
"Okay, Ah Wu, go quickly."
"etc!"
