Chapter 30: He took care of her all night.
Shi Yang was burning up, and physical cooling was needed on average every two hours.
Ji Peiheng sat by the bedside, keeping watch over her.
Aunt Cui was worried that he would ruin his health: "Sir, let me do it, you go and rest."
"No need, I'll do it."
He skillfully soaked the towel in water, wrung it out, and carefully wiped her forehead, neck, and hands, making sure no excess water droplets would wet her.
Looking at his practiced manner, Aunt Cui suddenly felt something was off.
Her husband used to be a refined and elegant man, so aloof that he never lifted a finger. She never imagined that such a man would bend down, roll up his sleeves, and wipe a woman's body, every movement filled with tenderness and the full warmth of a devoted husband.
Aunt Cui handed the prepared medicine to Ji Peiheng.
Shi Yang was helped up again.
This time the medicine was even more bitter, and Shi Yang couldn't help but reject it, pressing his tongue against it and refusing to drink it.
Ji Peiheng coaxed gently, "Be good, swallow it."
Seeing the woman's face scrunched up, Ji Peiheng sighed softly, pressed his lips to the cup, and took a sip. Then, with the medicine in his mouth, he leaned down and passed it to Shi Yang, lips to lips.
To prevent her from spitting it out, he pressed the tip of his tongue against hers, keeping her still.
He fed her the medicine very slowly, and Ji Peiheng was panting heavily, staring at her with dark eyes: "You're just deliberately torturing me."
Aunt Cui blushed as she watched and went out to get some water.
After finally finishing her medicine, Ji Peiheng couldn't resist kissing her for a while, and whispered, "Isn't this quite sweet?"
Fortunately, the medicine worked, and Shi Yang's fever finally subsided.
Ji Peiheng let out a breath, pinched the bridge of his nose, and relaxed.
The man, who usually commands respect in the business world, remains calm and collected even when faced with the most difficult and challenging situations. Yet, at this moment, simply because the person in his bed had a fever that had subsided, he felt a sense of relief, as if a huge weight had been lifted from his heart.
Shi Yang slept very restlessly and woke up just as dawn was breaking.
I had just opened my eyes when I felt a splitting headache.
She turned her head and saw the man sitting on the headboard, pretending to be asleep.
She sat up slightly and noticed the basin of water, towel, water glass, medicine, and other items on the floor.
Her gaze fell on his face; there was a faint bluish tint under his eyes.
Was it him who took care of her all night?
Ji Peiheng opened his eyes, met her scrutinizing gaze, leaned back to find a comfortable position, crossed his legs, and curled his lips: "Count how many times you've peeked at me?"
"You took care of me all night? Where's Aunt Cui?"
Even when she was sick, the thought of a charming and wealthy young man like him personally taking care of her all night made her feel uncomfortable.
His pajamas were a little wrinkled, his eyes were dark, and he had a light stubble on his chin. But he didn't look disheveled; instead, he exuded a reliable, domestic charm.
Then he teased, "Isn't it a husband's duty to take care of his wife?"
That being said.
However, she still felt the same way as Aunt Cui, finding it very incongruous.
She didn't know what to say, so she nestled into her husband's arms like any other couple and said sweetly, "Honey, you're so good to me, I really love you so much."
She and he didn't seem to be the kind of loving couple that other people have.
After thinking for a moment, she uttered what she thought was the most appropriate words.
"Okay, then... thank you."
Polite and courteous, yet distant and reserved.
Whether it was just my imagination or not, Ji Peiheng's expression turned colder after she finished speaking. He didn't say anything more, got up, and went to the bathroom.
When he came out of the bathroom again, he had changed into a new set of pajamas, the fabric of which was soft and smooth. His chin was also smooth as jade, revealing his originally delicate jawline.
He once again regained his refined and noble demeanor.
Elegant, confident, and unhurried.
He handed the medicine and water to Shi Yang: "Drink your medicine."
Shi Yang took a sip, and it was so bitter that she almost vomited.
Ji Peiheng raised an eyebrow: "Bitter?"
"It's not bitter," she said deliberately.
She forced herself to drink the medicine.
How did she manage to drink such bitter medicine yesterday?
Ji Peiheng opened his palm; there was a candy inside.
Shi Yang snatched it and ate it.
The sweet, fruity flavor diluted the bitterness in my mouth.
With a candy in her mouth, she asked, "How did I suddenly get sick?"
The candies clinked softly between her lips and teeth.
It emitted a sweet fragrance. Ji Peiheng looked away from her lips and said, "You caught a cold."
He cleverly concealed other important reasons.
"I'm usually in good health."
Can catching a cold really be this serious?
She muttered, "It must be because you were too unrestrained in bed that you exhausted me."
Ji Peiheng's brow twitched; she had guessed correctly by accident.
He said without changing his expression, "Is that so?"
Shi Yang lay down, covered herself with the blanket, and said irritably, "Don't touch me until I'm better."
She has always had a problem with colds and headaches. She had a high fever for so long yesterday, and now her head is throbbing like it's going to explode.
She pounded her head with her hands, again and again.
Her wrist was grabbed, and she opened her eyes to look at him.
Ji Peiheng asked, "Does your head hurt?"
Shi Yang nodded.
She was in so much pain that her face turned deathly pale, and she didn't even want to speak.
"Let me rub it for you."
A pair of large hands gently but firmly touched her temples.
Shi Yang hadn't had much hope, but to his surprise, after pressing the buttons a few times, he felt some relief.
He pressed down with just the right amount of force, neither too light nor too heavy.
Shi Yang was drowsy, and his breathing gradually became even...
When Aunt Cui came in, she saw her husband gently and patiently massaging his wife. She was so surprised that it took her a while to put the steamed egg custard on the bedside table: "I just heard that my wife woke up, so I made something to eat."
Ji Peiheng stopped what he was doing: "Take it out. She didn't sleep much yesterday. Let her get some sleep."
"Okay, then let me know if you need anything."
Ji Peiheng lay down beside her, and pulled the soft woman into his arms.
He rubbed his chin against the top of her fluffy head.
...
Shi Yang was awakened by an urgent and piercing ringtone.
He stretched out his arm haphazardly, grabbed his phone, and said weakly, "Who is it?"
Where did you take your brother?
She regained consciousness.
