"Meow!" The kitten meowed softly, and Wan'er came back to her senses. As she looked away, she felt something furry on her chin.
Only then did I realize that the little prince's head was resting against my chin, and the little guy was also looking at the keyhole, twitching his whiskers...
"Why are you getting involved?" Seeing his serious expression, Wan'er found it a little funny. She shook her head and let him squat on her lap.
He simply stretched his arms over the sides of the little prince's head and grasped the wooden box, which was so light that it seemed to contain nothing.
What could be inside?
Wan'er thought for a moment, put the box back in its place, picked up the kitten, and went into the kitchen. When she came out, she had a small, thin, and soft piece of wire in her hand...
Wan'er sat back down on the stool, reached out and inserted one end of the wire into the keyhole...
Why did I feel like a thief? Her fingers gripped the wire, twisting it left and right. Wan'er was hunched over, too nervous to even breathe…
"Wan'er, it's no use doing this. This kind of lock can't be opened with anything but a key." The little prince twitched his beard, narrowed his eyes, and turned to look at Wan'er quietly. She was slightly frowning, breathing heavily, and her hair was hanging to one side, making her look stubborn and adorable.
"Little Prince, you can't help at all, all you do is watch!" Wan'er thought to herself, feeling the kitten watching her out of the corner of her eye.
About half an hour later, Wan'er raised her head, her forehead beaded with sweat. She dejectedly lowered her hands.
"Hmph! I'm going to pry it open!" Wan'er put the kitten on the ground, then quickly got up to get a pair of scissors.
Holding the scissors, Wan'er realized that the wooden box was sealed so tightly that there were no gaps. She tried poking around the box with the sharp scissors several times, but to no avail. Even more strangely, the surface of the box showed no signs of damage whatsoever.
It's clearly a wooden box! How can it not be opened? Wan'er placed the box upright on the chair, and replaced the scissors in her hand with a small hammer.
Wan'er raised the hammer, gritted her teeth, and slammed it down. A loud "thud!" resounded, making Wan'er's hand ache. The wooden box bounced only once before landing steadily on the stool.
It seemed they couldn't break it open. Exhausted and panting, Wan'er slumped back into the chair behind her.
"I smashed you!" In a fit of anger, Wan'er put the hammer aside and reached for the box...
The box has a spirit; it can't be broken by just dropping it, especially on a tiled floor. This silly woman, she's so reckless!
"Meow!" The kitten leaped up, put all four paws together, and gently landed on the wooden box, lying down as if it couldn't be chased away no matter what.
"What are you doing? I just wanted to see what my mother left me." Wan'er reached out to hug him, "Little Prince, don't block my way, move aside, I have to..."
"Meow!" With a flicker of its eyes, the kitten shook its little head and meowed twice at Wan'er.
Why are you shaking your head? Wan'er was taken aback and withdrew her hands.
He was stopping me! Terrifying! What was I doing? How could I do this? The box is so sturdy; if it fell, even if the box didn't break, the ground would shatter. And if there were fragile items inside, then…
How could I be so foolish? This is a keepsake left to me by my mother... Wan'er gasped and tears streamed down her face.
"Knock knock knock!" Just as Wan'er was at her wit's end, there was a rapid knocking on the door.
"Who is it?" Who would be knocking at the door so late? Exhausted, Wan'er used her hands to support herself on the chair and stood up…
