Seeing Li Qingran fidgeting in the passenger seat, Lu Ming spoke to her in a rare gentle tone, explaining the situation.
"Don't worry, my mom won't do anything to your aunt. She really came here today to apologize to me. Last time at school, I didn't handle this matter well, which is why you got punished by the school. But I will find a way to deal with Zhou Yang. Don't worry, my mom really came here today to help you go to school."
Li Qingran looked at Lu Ming with some surprise. Lu Ming usually didn't say a word at school and seemed extremely aloof.
Why was your mother willing to help me?
“My mom has helped a lot of people. She said she feels that her life has been smooth and she has lived a very good life, as if she had won the lottery. She also wants to share this good luck with others. My mom established this foundation when I was only a few years old.”
Lu Ming glanced at her sideways. “She has helped so many people that she can’t even count them all. There are countless people who have changed their fate through education. If you want to know why, you can just ask her. This is what my mom said at home: You are so outstanding, you should live a bright and shining life, instead of being forced to drop out of school by a bastard like Zhou Yang.”
Li Qingran was a little stunned. She didn't know that in the eyes of such a high and mighty person, she could actually be considered outstanding.
Lu Ming seemed to know what she was thinking. "My mom said that everyone has their strengths. It doesn't necessarily mean good grades, good character, or a kind personality. Some people may not be good at studying, but they are very good at repairing cars, or they may be very talented in drawing, or they may be very talented in singing and dancing. Excellence is not limited to any one thing. Even if someone has no talent in any field, as long as they do not let themselves down, that is also a kind of strength."
Li Qingran kept looking at Lu Ming without saying a word.
Lu Ming parked the car and turned to look at her. "This is what my mom told me when I was eight years old. I was very naughty back then. I didn't study and I was always getting into trouble. My mom never scolded me for being a bad kid. She just patiently taught me."
"Auntie is so kind. She's beautiful and outstanding. No wonder you and your brother are so excellent too."
"Thank you. I also think my mom is wonderful; no one is better than her."
The two entered the bookstore side by side.
Lin Wanwan watched the two children leave before turning to Zou Cui and saying, "This matter was not handled well by our Lu Ming. You don't need to worry about the Zhou family. Leave Qingran's schooling to me. I will go to the school to demand an explanation."
Zou Cui nodded, not pushing all the blame onto her. "I'll go with you. Qingran is my daughter. There's no reason for me to back down. Although our family is poor, we're not the type to back down when things happen."
"Okay, I'll come pick you up then. There's another reason why I came to your house so abruptly today—it's about the children's schooling..."
When Lu Ming returned with Li Qingran carrying large bags, the two had already finished their conversation and were sitting together picking vegetables.
Upon entering, Li Qingran thought she was seeing things, so she put down her things and rubbed her eyes.
Zou Cui found her behavior somewhat amusing. "Did you wash your hands? Why are you rubbing your eyes?"
Lin Wanwan waved to Lu Ming, "It's getting late, let's go back and pick up your dad from get off work."
Zou Cui quickly stood up, "Why did you leave without eating, Nightmare?"
"No, let's have dinner together another time. I have to go back today, so I won't bother your family any longer."
Zou Cui didn't linger and saw the two of them downstairs.
Lin Wanwan was driving, and Lu Ming was sitting in the passenger seat, chatting with her casually.
"Mom, did you introduce a job to Aunt Zou?"
"Yes, her mother used to work in the clothing industry. I introduced her to a job in a garment factory, where the salary is higher than what she earns now, and their family can live a more comfortable life."
Lu Ming nodded and didn't say anything more.
"It's still early today, how about we go buy some desserts and then drive to pick up your dad from get off work?"
Lu Ming nodded. "Didn't Dad drive this morning?"
"No, it was your Uncle Li who brought him here this morning."
"My dad is really lucky."
Lin Wanwan turned her head to look at him, "Why do you say that?"
Lu Ming lowered his head and remained silent for a long time before finally speaking.
"My dad must have saved the world in his past life to marry such a beautiful wife like you, who is also good at business."
"Hahahaha, your dad is great too, why don't you praise him?"
"Isn't it expected that he's excellent? How could he be worthy of you if he didn't work hard and strive for improvement?"
Lin Wanwan paused for a moment, then asked, "Do you have some kind of problem with your father?"
Lu Ming shook his head. "No, he is very outstanding, but I will be even more outstanding than him in the future."
Lin Wanwan didn't say anything. When they arrived at Lu Feng's workplace, she found a parking spot.
Only then did he turn his head to look at Lu Ming.
"Xiaoming, why do you treat your father as an imaginary enemy and target? Your target is not him, but yourself. You just need to walk your own path and live your own life well. In my eyes, you are also very excellent."
"Mom, you're just being biased. What's so great about me? Isn't it expected that I get good grades? I'm a student, it's my duty to do well in school."
Lin Wanwan looked at him and said, "Xiaoming, you have a sense of justice, responsibility, and a sense of duty. These are your strengths. Good grades are just an added bonus, and they will never be the standard by which you are evaluated."
Lu Ming smiled and said, "Mom, Uncle is absolutely right. You really are very suitable to be a political commissar. It's really easy and enjoyable to chat with you."
Lin Wanwan angrily slapped him, "I've noticed that your personality is becoming more and more like your uncle's."
"Isn't it good?"
“What’s wrong with that? Your uncle is so outstanding, what’s wrong with you being like him?”
Lin Wanwan checked the time; it was already time to get off work. She unbuckled her seatbelt, got out of the car, and found a conspicuous spot to wait for Lu Feng.
Many people greeted her, some of whom Lin Wanwan knew, and some she didn't. She smiled and waved to them all.
Lu Feng finally came out after almost twenty minutes.
Lin Wanwan watched him run over and wave at him.
Why are you running?
Why didn't you tell me you were coming to pick me up?
"I have a surprise for you."
Lu Feng chuckled and patted her head.
"Let's go home."
Lu Feng opened the passenger door and saw Lu Ming inside; his face darkened.
The father and son stared at each other, neither willing to back down.
Lin Wanwan was a little speechless. "Get in the car, let's go home."
Lu Feng had no choice but to sit in the back.
"Has the matter been resolved?"
"Pretty much. All three kids are pretty capable. I don't know about the other two."
Lu Ming interjected, "Li Qingran's younger brother is named Li Jin, and he is Yuanyuan's classmate."
"Really? Then you should tell Yuanyuan to take good care of that girl's younger brother. I've met Zhou Yang a few times; he's full of bad intentions and will probably find people to bully that girl's brother and sister. Isn't her sister taking the college entrance exam this year? We don't want it to affect her."
"I understand, Mom. I'll tell Xiaojing when I get back."
