If the scavengers trudging through the wasteland with their heads down were to occasionally look up, they would find that on the large, colorful butterfly that had just fluttered over their heads, a small white mouse was sitting comfortably, with several white roses entwined around it.
Bretta had just been directing the reluctant but obedient butterfly species to fly over when she noticed humans below. She paused, then quickly called out, "Wait! Go back for a moment."
The butterfly-like creature fluttered its wings and flew back. In that instant, Bretta transformed into human form and maneuvered her vehicle back to a stop above the scavenger team.
The scavengers below hadn't thought much of the butterfly species that had just flown by, but when some of them saw it fluttering its enormous wings and flying back, their expressions changed drastically, and they hurriedly turned around and shouted, "Beware! Beware!"
Fearing they would open fire, Blaita quickly poked his head out and asked, "Um... I just wanted to ask how to get to the Arctic Snow Fortress?"
By this time they had approached the north, and the weather was getting colder, so the people below were all wrapped in thick winter clothes.
Below, a strong, burly man looked up and glanced at the blond boy sitting on the butterfly-like alien, quite surprised, and asked, "What are you going to the Arctic Snow Castle for? Do you intend to join the alien alliance there?"
"The Alien Alliance?" Bryta repeated, expressing his doubt.
The man realized this young man was no ordinary person, as he could even control mutants. He looked up at him and said, "That's right, a group of extremely powerful mutants have appeared in Polar Snow Fortress, and they're currently recruiting talented individuals. You didn't know that, yet you still want to go?"
Bryta nodded: "Yes."
Seeing this, some of the younger members of the scavenging group looked down on him: "Then I advise you not to go. Those mutants are human when they are conscious, but when they are confused, they are no different from monsters. Many people have been infected, and there are not many ordinary humans left there now."
"I see."
"Scared yet? I advise you not to go there. Even if you can control aliens, you're no match for them in that kind of place." The young scavenger raised his chin slightly. "I see you have some skill, why don't you join us..."
“No, thank you.” Britta shook her head, sitting on the stylish, colorful butterfly. “I still want to go there.”
The first to speak seemed to be the leader of the scavenging group. He looked up and squinted, saying, "It's just a little over two hundred kilometers north of here. If you... could fly, it would be much faster. However, the closer we get, the less these butterfly species can fly in the frigid conditions of the Arctic Snow Fortress."
Bryta understood and nodded: "Okay, thank you."
After saying goodbye to the group, Bretta continued north. The biting cold wind made him shiver. Soon, the butterfly species was also affected by the severe cold and could no longer fly north.
Bryta let it down with a hint of regret, reached out and touched its wings, and whispered, "Little butterfly, you're free now. Go to a warm place, and make sure you survive."
He thought for a moment, and to repay the creature, he bit his finger, dripping a few drops of blood onto the butterfly's head. He didn't know if it would work, but he hoped it would make the butterfly stronger, allowing it to withstand the harsh southern cold and attacks from predators and humans.
Those few drops of blood seeped into the head of the butterfly hybrid, and soon you could vaguely see some changes on its body, such as its wings becoming more beautiful and stronger.
The butterfly species, which was about to flap its wings and flee, turned back to look at him with some reluctance, and couldn't help but rub against the few white roses.
Suddenly struck by a sudden inspiration, Bretta said, "If you can't bear to part with it, you can stay..."
Before the words were even finished, the butterfly species, which had just looked reluctant to part, immediately fluttered its wings and soared into the sky, disappearing in a flurry of flapping wings.
Bryta, who remained where she was, said, "...Get down."
Little White immediately wrapped itself around his head and spun around, like a rose wreath, then nuzzled his face affectionately in a fawning manner. Bretta gently tilted his head to touch it, then offered it his recently broken index finger.
"You can only drink a small sip."
Having achieved its goal, Little White excitedly stretched out its vines to touch his fingertips, obediently taking a gentle suck. It then secretly glanced at Bryta's face, and seeing that he didn't react, it quickly took another small suck before stretching back to wrap itself around his head, completely satisfied.
Bretta looked ahead, her eyes becoming more determined. She trudged into the thick snow, step by step, into the vast expanse of white.
He didn't know how long he had walked when he suddenly heard a heavy, muffled sound that echoed through the snow valley in the distance. Just as he looked up, he saw tumbling snow rushing towards him from the mountainside!
It's an avalanche!
Bryta turned to run, but the next second he was completely buried and buried under the surging snow waves.
Suddenly, a movement occurred somewhere on the calm snowdrift. A hand laboriously reached out from the snow, and then Bretta popped out with a head covered in snow. He shook the snow off his head in sync with Little White. He paused for a moment, then sniffed the air. Suddenly, his eyes lit up: "It's Mr. Lin Dao's scent!"
He frantically reached out to climb out, but the snow weighed him down so much that he couldn't get out. Little White darted out and wrapped itself around his exposed neck, pulling hard—"Stop! Cough cough cough! Don't, don't pull!" Bryta's face turned red and his neck bulged from the vines, his eyes bloodshot and overflowing with bodily fluids. Only then did Little White release the vines and nervously flit around his head that had emerged from the snow.
After thinking for a moment, Blaita transformed back into its original form. The compressed space suddenly loosened up considerably, and it quickly spread its limbs, stepping on the loose, collapsed snow, and leaped up, successfully landing and shaking off its academic slumber.
He excitedly looked up at the snow-covered ground above, beckoned back to Xiaobai and transformed back into human form. He reached out and let Xiaobai wrap around him. He struggled and clumsily climbed up the snow, his little face red from the cold, his eyes shining.
He had finally climbed to the top of the snow-capped mountain, exhausted, and just as he relaxed, his foot suddenly slipped: "Ah—"
The next instant, a hand firmly grasped his wrist, and he was hoisted onto the snow slope.
Still shaken, Bretta looked up and saw the other person's face clearly. She exclaimed with delight, "Mr. Lin Dao!"
When Lin Dao saw him, his expression paused, then he gripped his hand tightly and commanded in a deep voice, "Hold on tight."
As he spoke, he used his arm to pull the boy up.
Bleta stumbled and lunged at him, but Lin Dao caught her.
Bryta, who hadn't been this close to Lin Dao in a long time, felt inexplicably nervous, and her frostbitten face turned even redder.
Lin Dao helped him steady, his hand still feeling the boy's narrow waist. He looked down at the face that seemed to have weathered many storms, his emotions a jumble. It had been almost three months since they last parted ways in Mechanical Sky City.
After arriving at the Arctic Snow Fortress, they secretly investigated the fortress's alien research laboratory. Wei Tang once returned to Mechanical Sky City and brought back news that Blaita had disappeared without a word when they left that day, vanishing completely from Mechanical Sky City.
When Lin Dao heard the news, his heart sank. At first, he worried that he had been captured, but when the bounty was not withdrawn, he was more relieved than worried. At least, those who wanted to capture Blaita might not be able to find his trail.
But now, looking intently at Blaita, whose cheeks were flushed and who wore a satisfied smile, he asked, "How did you end up here?"
Bretta replied happily, "I've come to find you..." As he spoke, he suddenly stepped forward, opened his arms, and threw himself into the man's arms, hugging him tightly around the waist, his voice filled with undisguised joy, "I've finally found you, Mr. Lin Dao."
Lin Dao froze as he was suddenly hugged around the waist. He paused after hearing those words, then frowned uncomfortably after a moment: "Do you know how dangerous it is here right now?"
“I know…” Bretta had barely uttered a single word when Lin Dao suddenly tackled him to the ground in the snow, covering him completely—and a grenade suddenly exploded beside them!
"—!" Bretta's eyes widened as he felt a warm liquid drip onto his face. He panicked and stared at Lin Dao in front of him, hurriedly asking, "Where are you hurt?"
Lin Dao didn't have time to say much to him. He immediately reached out and hugged him, then nimbly rolled to the side and, under the cover of the snowdrift, quickly teleported him to the entrance of a relatively safe snow cave.
Lin Dao quickly moved the stone at the entrance of the cave with his fingerless gloved hand, pulled Blaita over and stuffed him inside, whispering, "Hide well, don't come out."
Bretta stared at the bloodstains on his shoulder, and hesitated, "But..."
“No buts, this is an order.” He gripped his gun tighter and turned back to say, “An avalanche just happened, and I got separated from them. I’m going to support them now. Remember, no matter what noise you hear, don’t make a sound or come out.”
After saying that, Lin Dao quickly flipped over and leaped down the snow slope with his back to it.
Forced to remain in the snow cave, Bryta could only peek out through a small hole. Amidst the swirling snow and wind, Mr. Lin Dao's figure receded further and further into the distance. His small eyes cautiously scanned his surroundings, when suddenly they met a pair of dark eyes.
“!” Bretta was startled, and then the other party stretched out a thick and fierce hand and grabbed at the cave entrance—the snow piled up in the entire cave hole fragilely scattered into fragments.
Bryta: "..." He swallowed hard as the powerful palm wind brushed his cheek. The next moment, he looked up and saw the other party's true form clearly—it was a polar bear, a white polar predator that was more than two meters tall!
Little White was so scared when it saw the big guy that it hid on Blaita for its life. Before Blaita could react, the polar bear stretched out its paw and slapped the fresh food again!
Bretta hurriedly dodged to the side, but the opening was too narrow, so he had to back away, watching the enraged polar bear stuck in the opening, angrily swinging its sharp paws at him!
Bretta swallowed hard, calming himself down. He guessed that such a large creature was most likely a mutated species, meaning that everything was edible to it.
Bretta hesitated for a moment, then slowly and boldly approached the polar bear at the cave entrance. She swallowed hard again, and in the next instant, before the Arctic overlord could even see what was happening, a gaping maw of abyss quickly enveloped and swallowed it whole!
"Burp—" Bryta let out a very ungentlemanly burp, reached out and touched his slightly bulging belly, licked his lips with satisfaction, and felt the changes in the polar bear alien he had just swallowed inside his stomach.
After a while, he felt a sharp pain in his stomach. Before he could react, he suddenly opened his mouth and vomited out loud.
A man covered in slime curled up and rolled on the cave floor.
Bretta saw the man's eyes widen: "???"
What happened?!
"Tata! Are you still there? Answer me if you hear me!" At that moment, Lin Dao's voice came from outside the cave. Blaita instinctively glanced guiltily at the man on the ground, who had just opened his eyes with difficulty, clutching his stomach. The next instant, Blaita jumped up, quickly kicked a pile of snow over the man's face, and hurriedly answered:
"Mr. Lin Dao! I'm here!"
The man on the ground, who had been on the verge of death and still dazed, inexplicably ate a mouthful of snow that had fallen from the sky: "...I'm awake now."
