Chapter 119 Longing and Yearning

Qiu Yang was in a bit of a dilemma.

Su Xiaowei had already become involved with him, and he was eager to return home and see his father, Qiu Jingwen, as soon as possible.

In the end, the father prevailed.

"Xiaowei, after you get off work, take a shower and then get dressed up. I'm going home first. I have something to talk to my dad about, including our relationship. I need to tell my parents that we're together now."

Upon hearing Qiu Yang's words, Su Xiaowei's pretty face flushed even more.

"Ah, Qiuyang, are you going to tell your parents that we've already done something bad?"

She portrayed relationships as something bad.

Autumn sun shines brightly:

"It's not a bad thing, it's a good thing."

Su Xiaowei stopped insisting.

"Okay then, you go home first. I'll take a shower, change my clothes, and ride my bike to your house myself."

Having reached an agreement, Qiu Yang and Su Xiaowei rode their bicycles out of the workshop after get off work.

After saying goodbye, Su Xiaowei rode her bicycle back to her dormitory, while Qiu Yang pedaled his bicycle very fast.

He wished he could pedal his bicycle at the speed of light and get home in a second.

Back home, Qiu Yang didn't even greet his mother and Qiu Shui in the kitchen before rushing straight into the bedroom.

Seeing that her father was not in the bedroom, she quickly came out.

He walked to the kitchen door and asked his mother directly:

"Mom, where's Dad?"

When Qiu Yang arrived home and saw many dishes on the dining table, he knew that his father must have returned home.

Jiang Yuping looked at her son and explained:

"Qiuyang, your dad told me on the phone that he'll be home for dinner tonight, but he didn't say when he'll arrive."

Qiu Yang was a little discouraged after hearing this and sighed.

"Sigh, Mom, didn't Dad say where he is? When will he be home?"

Jiang Yuping looked at Qiu Yang's clothes, soaked with sweat, and began to worry about her son.

"Qiuyang, your dad said he's coming back, so he definitely will. Look how anxious you are. Your clothes are all soaked. Go take a shower and change your clothes, or just rinse them with cold water in the bathroom and change into clean clothes."

Qiu Yang didn't ask any more questions. He did as his mother had instructed, took out a change of clothes from Qiu Yue's wardrobe, and then went into the bathroom.

After moving into the factory's single dormitory, Qiu Yang also kept some clothes there, which he would sometimes change into when he went home for meals.

Besides Qiu Shui and her mother preparing dinner together in the kitchen, Qiu Yue hadn't arrived home yet. She was working the middle shift today and wouldn't get off work until midnight. However, Qiu Yue had already told her supervisor that she would go home for dinner around 7 PM before returning. Meanwhile, Qiu Shou and Qiu Chan were huddled in their room, reading under the electric fan.

About an hour later, Su Xiaowei knocked on the door and came in.

Since it was her first visit, Su Xiaowei naturally brought many gifts.

She placed the gifts on the living room sofa and then greeted each member of the Qiu family.

Jiang Yuping looked at her future daughter-in-law with great joy.

She seems to have temporarily forgotten about the murder she committed and her husband's status as a spy.

"Su Xiaowei, come and eat, why bring so much stuff? It's not like it's a holiday."

Jiang Yuping took Su Xiaowei's hand and said.

"Aunt Jiang, there's nothing special, just something to sell to Qiushou Qiuchan and his friends to cheer them up."

Su Xiaowei has a sweet tongue and a beautiful voice.

Qiu Shou stared at his future sister-in-law, his dark eyes darting around, unable to utter a single word.

It was the first time he had seen such a beautiful young woman, and his heart felt like it was beating a few beats faster than usual.

Around seven o'clock, Qiuyue also returned home.

The table was already full of food, and Qiu Yang had even prepared his father's wine glass and opened a few bottles of soda for his younger sister and brother to enjoy.

However, her father, Qiu Jingwen, was not at the dining table.

Qiu Yue greeted Su Xiaowei, who was visiting for the first time, and then sat down.

She looked at the disappointed expressions on her family's faces, and then looked at her mother, Jiang Yuping.

"Mom, where's Dad? It's so late, why isn't he back yet?"

Jiang Yuping didn't know why her husband, who had promised to come home for dinner that night, hadn't made a sound.

"Maybe there's traffic on the way, let's wait a bit longer."

As she spoke, she looked again at the autumn harvest and the cicadas:

"Autumn harvest and cicadas, if you are hungry, eat first."

Although the cicadas were very hungry during the autumn harvest, they all cried out in unison.

"Mom, we're not hungry. We'll wait for Dad to eat together."

What followed was a silent respite.

Time passes by second by second.

7:30

7:40

Seven fifty,

Eight o'clock,

The family waited until 8:30.

There was still no sound of footsteps coming from the stairwell.

On two separate occasions, Qiu Shou heard footsteps and hurriedly opened the door to greet them, only to find that they were employees from the opposite door or upstairs.

Jiang Yuping thought to herself that her husband must have missed the bus, or the bus must have broken down on the way, otherwise he wouldn't be here now.

The family didn't wait; instead, they began to feel anxious and even fearful while waiting.

At nine o'clock, Jiang Yuping looked at the table full of dishes and felt an indescribable heartache.

She suddenly wondered if she had misheard the phone call that afternoon.

Is it possible that I'm experiencing schizophrenia and these are the results of auditory hallucinations?

Thinking of all this, Jiang Yuping looked at the people at the table and suddenly said:

"Don't wait anymore, I think I misheard. Your dad said he wouldn't be home until tomorrow night."

Upon hearing her mother's words, all the children stared intently at Jiang Yuping.

Qiu Yang and Qiu Yue could see the pain and anxiety on their mother's face, and they could understand her feelings of waiting. She was not much more relaxed than they were as children.
