Chapter 785: Wilderness Construction 3

"Also, if birds fly very low and insects appear in large numbers, it could be a sign of changing weather," Xiao Yi said in a serious, steady voice. He swept his gaze over the group and continued, "Think about it: Birds usually soar high in the sky, but if they fly very low, it's likely because changes in atmospheric pressure are making it difficult for them to fly high. This often signals an impending rainstorm." Xiao Yi's gaze was focused, as if he could actually see the birds flying low. "As for insects, they normally have their own activity patterns and ranges. But when the weather is about to change, such as increased humidity or decreased air pressure, insects will appear in unusually large numbers." Xiao Yi gestured as he spoke, trying to make the situation clearer. "If dragonflies and mosquitoes suddenly appear in large numbers, we need to be extra cautious. This could mean heavy rain or other severe weather is imminent." Xiao Yi's tone grew stronger, emphasizing the importance of these phenomena. Everyone listened intently, afraid to miss any crucial details.

Xiao Yi continued, "Also, if you see snakes crawling out of their burrows and wandering around outside, it could be a sign of worsening weather. Snakes are sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. When they sense an unfavorable change in their environment, they'll leave their comfortable burrows." His voice carried clearly through the still air, a touch of urgency and seriousness. "Also, if domesticated animals, like chickens, become restless and refuse to roost, pay attention. A dog barking incessantly could also be signaling a change in weather." Xiao Yi's gaze was firm, capturing every subtle expression on everyone's faces to ensure they were following his explanation. Everyone diligently memorized this information, hoping to better prepare for future weather changes. Chen Hao frowned, repeating Xiao Yi's key points in a whisper, fearing he'd forgotten them. Lin Meng quickly wrote down key points in a small notebook she carried with her, her pen scratching against the paper. Su Yao stared at Xiao Yi without blinking, her eyes filled with focus and determination. Zhao Lei silently recalled every detail, his hands unconsciously clenched into fists, and he vowed to remember these valuable lessons. They all knew that in this forest full of unknowns and challenges, accurately predicting weather changes was crucial for survival. This knowledge was like a key that could help them unlock the door to safety and hope.

As the days passed, Xiao Yi and his companions became increasingly skilled at surviving in the forest. Xiao Yi expertly identified various edible plants and fruits, picking them with agility and precision, never missing a hidden treasure. Chen Hao's traps grew increasingly ingenious, consistently capturing enough small animals to provide a plentiful source of protein for everyone. Lin Meng mastered building shelters from the elements, utilizing every branch and leaf to its full potential. Su Yao excelled at roasting food over fire, imbuing even the most ordinary ingredients with an alluring aroma. Zhao Lei developed his own unique methods for finding and purifying water, ensuring everyone had access to clean water. Their survival base gradually became more complete. The once simple campsite was now fortified. Fences woven from branches and vines not only kept out small animals but also provided a sense of security. The tents, after numerous repairs and improvements, were now even more resistant to the elements. They also cultivated a small vegetable garden around their camp, planting seeds they had found in the forest. Watching the seedlings grow, they were filled with anticipation and joy. However, they knew more challenges lay ahead. The forest's resources were not limitless, and with the changing seasons, obtaining food could become increasingly difficult. Unknown illnesses and injuries could strike at any moment, and their medical supplies were limited. Unpredictable weather remained a significant threat. Even with their improved forecasting abilities, nature's power remained unpredictable. And the unexplored depths of the forest might hold unforeseen dangers. Yet, there was no fear in their eyes, only determination and courage. They believed that with their ever-improving skills and the strength of unity, they could overcome the numerous challenges and persevere in this forest. Xiao Yi, an ordinary university student, was like one of the countless students. His life was as peaceful as water, free from turbulent waves, but only the tranquility of a steady stream. Every morning, as the first rays of sunlight filtered through the dormitory window, Xiao Yi would slowly open his eyes to the sound of his alarm, beginning the day bleary-eyed. Dressed in simple casual clothes and carrying a slightly worn backpack, he hurried to the classroom. During class, he sat quietly in a corner, diligently taking notes, occasionally amused by the teacher's humor and joining in the laughter of his classmates. During breaks, he would simply exchange a few words with his classmates before diving back into his preparations for the next class. In the afternoon, as sunlight bathed the campus paths, Xiao Yi would go alone to the library, finding a quiet corner to immerse himself in a world of books. Only when the sun set would he, clutching his borrowed books, return to the dormitory in the fading light. In the evening, the dormitory was filled with the laughter of his roommates, and Xiao Yi mostly just listened with a smile, occasionally chiming in. He would finish his homework for the day under the desk lamp, then wash up and go to bed, drifting off to sleep in anticipation of the next day. Xiao Yi's life is like this, simple and ordinary, without dazzling light or ups and downs, but full of peace and tranquility.
