Chapter 836: Fighting Together 45

The icy water instantly enveloped him, the overwhelming force making it nearly impossible to breathe. He swam with all his might towards the tall building. However, the debris and rubble from the flood kept hitting his body, causing severe pain.

"Can't give up... Can't give up..." Xiao Yi kept repeating in his heart, with a determined light flashing in his eyes.

Finally, he swam to the vicinity of the tall building and grabbed an exposed steel bar. He tried his best to climb to the roof, sat down on the ground, and gasped for breath.

On the rooftop, several survivors saw him, a glimmer of hope in their eyes. One of them, a middle-aged man, stepped forward and asked tremblingly, "Are you...are you a rescuer?"

Xiao Yi shook his head and whispered: "No, I'm just... a person who wants to survive."

A flicker of disappointment flashed across the middle-aged man's eyes, but he quickly regained his composure. He looked toward the flood in the distance and murmured softly, "This disaster...when will it ever end?"

Xiao Yi did not answer, but tightened his grip on the device, with a flicker of determination in his eyes. He knew that he had to find the answer to prevent the disaster from spreading.

"Wait for me, Xiaoyu," he whispered, his gaze fixed firmly into the distance. The air on a scorching summer day was now filled with a stifling heat, making even breathing difficult. The tarmac on the streets had softened under the scorching sun, feeling like stepping on a scorching pot. Even the air itself was distorted by the heat. People in short-sleeved shirts and shorts stalked the streets, sweating profusely and complaining about the damn weather.

However, amidst this scorching heat, the sky was suddenly covered by a thick layer of dark clouds, as if an invisible hand had completely obscured the sun's rays. The temperature plummeted in a matter of minutes, from a scorching 30 degrees Celsius to -10 degrees Celsius, as if jumping from hell into an icy cave.

"This...what's going on?" Xiao Yi stood on the street, feeling the biting cold coming from all directions, and couldn't help but shiver.

He hadn't had time to change his clothes yet, and his thin short-sleeved shirt was useless in the cold wind. He looked down at his arms, where goose bumps had already appeared on his skin. He could even see white mist condensing in the air with his breath.

It started to rain, but it wasn't just any rain, it was freezing rain.

The raindrops fell on his skin, like ice needles piercing his bones, causing severe pain. Xiao Yi quickly hid under the eaves of a building, but the freezing rain did not stop. Instead, it got heavier. The raindrops fell on the street and quickly turned into ice. The ground became smooth as a mirror, as if the whole world was frozen.

"This is impossible..." Xiao Yi murmured in a low voice, with a flash of shock in his eyes.

He looked out at the street in the distance. The asphalt, softened by the scorching heat, was now covered in a thick layer of ice. Several cars skidded on the ice, making a sharp grinding sound before crashing into each other. The drivers inside tried to open their doors, but they were frozen shut and wouldn't budge.

"Help! Someone help me!" The driver's voice sounded particularly weak in the cold wind.

Xiao Yi gritted his teeth and quickly ran towards the car. However, the ice was too slippery, and every step he took was like walking on the edge of a knife. He would fall if he was not careful. Finally, he came to the car and knocked hard on the window, trying to rescue the driver.

"Hold on! I'll rescue you right away!" Xiao Yi shouted, his voice particularly clear in the cold wind.

However, just as he tried to open the car door, a piercing cold wind suddenly hit him, mixed with ice particles, like a sharp blade cutting through his skin. Xiao Yi subconsciously raised his hand to block it, but the cold wind still mercilessly invaded his body.

"Damn, this wind... is too cold!" Xiao Yi cursed softly. His fingers were numb from the cold and he could hardly move.

At this moment, the car window was finally smashed open, and the driver climbed out trembling, his face as pale as paper. His lips were already purple from the cold, and his voice was so weak that it was almost inaudible: "Thank you... Thank you..."

Xiao Yi quickly took off his coat and put it on the driver, even though he was already shivering with cold. He supported the driver and walked towards the nearby buildings with difficulty. However, the ice was getting thicker and thicker, and every step was like a race against death.

Finally, they arrived at the door of a building. Xiao Yi pushed the door open and helped the driver in. Although it was cold inside the building, at least there was no biting wind or freezing rain.

"You wait here, I'll go find something to keep warm." Xiao Yi whispered, with a hint of fatigue in his voice.

He quickly searched the building, finding some old newspapers and firewood, and managed to build a fire. The flames flickered in the cold wind, bringing a faint warmth. The driver huddled beside the fire, trembling, and said, "This... This weather is terrible... What on earth happened?"

Xiao Yi did not answer, but looked down at his hands. His fingers were red from the cold and almost numb. He knew that this disaster was beyond human cognition.

"I must find the answer as soon as possible..." He whispered to himself, with a hint of determination in his eyes.

At this moment, the windows of the building were suddenly knocked open by a fierce cold wind, and freezing rain mixed with ice particles poured into the room, and the flames were quickly extinguished in the cold wind. Xiao Yi quickly stood up and tried to close the window, but the power of the cold wind was too strong and he couldn't get close at all.

"No, we can't stay here!" Xiao Yi quickly helped the driver up and ran towards the depths of the building.

However, the entire city was frozen over. No matter where they fled, they could not escape the biting cold. The water on the streets had already frozen over, and the trees were covered in ice, like frozen sculptures. The buildings in the distance were also covered in ice, like ice sculptures.
