Chapter 11 Refueling and Restocking
"Brother, I suddenly remembered something."
Just as Han Shuo was dozing off and quietly listening to music, the fat man's voice woke him up.
"What's wrong?"
The fat man turned down the music volume in the car, turned around and looked at Han Shuo excitedly, saying, "We need to get some guns. It'll be so much safer with guns."
"It's not that easy to get." Han Shuo had already thought about this. Putting aside whether the two of them would know how to use it, the very issue of finding a channel was a problem.
"Go to the police station, they'll definitely have it there."
Han Shuo shook his head. The fat man's idea was good, but it was still too simplistic.
How much gas do you have left in your car?
"It's almost gone, but it can probably run for another few dozen kilometers."
Han Shuo also glanced at the fuel gauge, which showed that the fuel level was almost empty.
Looking out the window, although we haven't completely entered the suburbs yet, we can already see the highways on the outskirts of the city.
"The police station is in the city center, do you really want to run back there?"
"Let's find a place to fill up the tank first. Even if we have to turn back, it'll be profitable if we can find a few guns."
The fat man became even more excited at the mention of a gun. And that's true; what man hasn't wanted a gun at some point?
"The city center is too unsafe. Who knows what the situation is like there? Putting aside the number of zombies, the sheer number of vehicles piled up there could block us out."
"I don't want to wade through it on foot."
Han Shuo's neighborhood wasn't in the city center, but there were already quite a few zombies on the main road. He knew, of course, that having guns would greatly increase their chances of survival, but he wasn't foolish enough to do something with such a high probability of death.
Han Shuo paused for a moment, then remembered something else and continued.
"Besides, it's been half a month already. Smart people who live near the police station would have gone there long ago after something happened. By the time we get there now, the guns will probably have been stolen by now."
Han Shuo was confident that he had considered things carefully, but he didn't think the other survivors were fools.
After listening to Han Shuo's analysis, the fat man nodded and stopped mentioning the gun.
The fat man also knew that the chances of obtaining firearms depended on how long the two of them survived. The longer they lived, the greater their probability of acquiring them.
...
The two drove for about 10 more minutes and found a gas station.
Han Shuo looked around and saw that apart from a gas station worker inside the convenience store, there were no signs of zombies outside. Of course, the worker had turned into a zombie and was locked inside.
At this moment, Han Shuo and Fatty were already on the outskirts of the city.
"Keep going."
After saying that, Han Shuo got out of the car, the fat man went to get the oil nozzle, and Han Shuo stood guard vigilantly around the area.
Han Shuo walked around the gas station twice, but didn't find a single zombie. Relieved, he turned around and saw Fatty pressing buttons on the oil filler without actually filling it up, which puzzled Han Shuo.
"What are you doing? Hurry up and do your best!"
The machine shouldn't be broken; Han Shuo saw that the numbers on it were still lit up.
"Brother, I want to too. This machine requires a password to refuel."
Han Shuo reacted instantly and strode into the convenience store.
Open the door, draw your sword, swing it, and sheathe it!
In one swift motion, the only zombie inside met its demise.
Han Shuo bent down and rummaged through the zombie's body, eventually finding a card.
He went back to the car and tossed the gas card to the fat man. The fat man inserted the gas card, pulled the nozzle, and finally, gasoline came out.
"Awesome!" The fat man gave Han Shuo a thumbs up as he filled the car with gas.
"You add it first, then come inside with me to get the food."
Han Shuo tossed the car remote he had pulled from the man to the fat man and walked back into the convenience store.
"Lock the car after you're done adding fuel, so no one can steal it."
Although there were no zombies nearby, Han Shuo remained cautious.
Alright!
...
Han Shuo had already noticed from outside that the convenience store was full of food, probably because there were zombies inside, and there hadn't been any signs of living people coming here for so many days. Plus, the area was already quite remote, so it was understandable.
Han Shuo grabbed an empty box from the shelf and, without even looking at the types of goods on the shelf, waving his hand to stuff handfuls of goods into the box.
A short while later, after Han Shuo finished packing the two boxes, the fat man also came in.
Wow, so much food! We're rich!
If the two could take all the goods with them, it would be enough to feed them for several months. But clearly, the car couldn't hold them all, and Han Shuo didn't intend to stay there any longer.
"Get to work first, there'll be plenty of time for you to eat later." Han Shuo pushed the other empty boxes to the fat man's feet.
In less than two minutes, the two had filled five cardboard boxes.
According to Han Shuo's estimate, their car should be able to fit six boxes. Four boxes in the trunk, and two more in the back seat. Of course, they'll fill every other corner they can.
There's no such thing as too much food.
Although it's relatively easy for the two of them to find food now, it will be much more difficult in a few months.
Food that was meant to be taken away was taken away, and food that was meant to spoil was spoiled. The further along you go, the harder it gets.
"I'll move it into the car first, you can continue loading it."
"Hmm." Han Shuo continued working without turning his head.
Once the sixth box was full, Han Shuo stood up and stretched. The rest was up to the fat man to load the truck.
Since he had nothing better to do, Han Shuo went into the inner room to see if there was anything he could use.
The gas station is open 24 hours a day, and the inside looks like a rest area for staff on duty.
A bunk bed, and some other odds and ends.
Han Shuo searched high and low but couldn't find anything useful, so he only took the two blankets from the bed back with him.
The weather was getting colder and colder, and if they couldn't find a good place before dark, the two of them would likely have to spend the night in the car or in the wilderness. Although they wouldn't freeze to death without blankets for a night, Han Shuo didn't want to experience that.
Walking back to the car, I saw the fat man stuffing the last box of food into the back seat.
"Is there any room left? Put these two blankets in there."
"have."
After stuffing the box, the fat man turned around and took the blanket from Han Shuo's hand, forcefully shoving it inside. Han Shuo glanced at it from the side.
With two more blankets added, the back seat was completely full.
Once in the car, the fat man smiled mysteriously at Han Shuo, his left hand behind his back, and said with a grin.
"Brother, what did I find?"
Han Shuo glanced at him but ignored the fat man.
"Boring, he's like a dead block of wood, not funny at all."
As he spoke, the fat man took out his left hand.
"Hahaha! Two packs of cigarettes! How about that?"
At this moment, the fat man was holding two unopened packs of Zhonghua cigarettes in his left hand.
"Where did you find these?" The two had just finished their last two cigarettes when they got into the car. For smokers, the craving is unbearable.
"The car was found in the trunk; the owner probably put it there."
"Not bad, not bad!" Han Shuo was naturally happy to have a cigarette to smoke.
