Chapter Ten
"Thump—"
The sound of his head hitting the ground was crisp and clear. He raised his head and looked firmly straight ahead.
He didn't specify which adult, and everyone subconsciously followed his gaze to Shinobu Kocho, and then looked at Sanemi Shinazugawa.
Genya Shinazugawa is Sanemi Shinazugawa's younger brother and his only living relative. Everyone close to Sanemi knows that his greatest wish is for his brother to join the Demon Slayer Corps.
The reason is rather sad. Xuanmi's constitution is special, making it impossible for him to cultivate any breathing techniques.
Everyone's gaze was shifting between Shinobu Kocho and Sanemi. Even Shinobu herself thought that Genmi was looking at her. She was skilled in poisons and naturally also in pharmacology. Genmi probably thought that she could improve his constitution.
In reality, he was never looking at Shinobu Kocho, but at Chinatsu. The only ones who probably know the truth are Genya himself and Chinatsu.
Genya could sense that Chika was intentionally hiding her strength. He didn't know why, but he respected it. However, he didn't want to miss this opportunity.
Unaware of the situation, Butterfly sighed and said, "Even if you come to me, there's nothing I can do. I'm afraid I can't help you with your constitution, and I can't help you practice the breathing technique."
The inability to practice breathing techniques means the inability to become a Ghost Swordsman.
This is a dead end.
A suffocating sense of oppression filled the air, making it instantly difficult to even breathe.
Sanemi moved.
His movements were faster than anyone else's; his figure flashed past like the wind, and in the blink of an eye, he had already pinned Xuan Mi to the ground. "Get out of here! Don't cause any more trouble for others!"
"Bang!"
The fist slammed heavily into Xuanmi's cheek, the dull thud sending chills down one's spine.
A bloody molar flew out of Xuanmi's mouth in front of everyone, leaving a glaring bloodstain on the ground.
Chika gasped; just looking at it made her feel pain.
After throwing the punch, Sanemi got up and grabbed Genmi by the collar, dragging him out. His knuckles turned slightly pale from the excessive force.
"Get out of here! Get as far away as you can! The Demon Slayer Corps is not a place for you! And you are not allowed to show your face here again."
His voice suppressed an indescribable emotion, like anger or fear.
He was angry that his younger brother was causing trouble for others, and he was also afraid that his younger brother, who did not know the breathing technique, would cause trouble.
Xuanmi fell to the ground in a sorry state, powerless to fight back, and could only clench the door panel and turn around to refute.
"If my brother can do it, why can't I? Are you looking down on me? Are you afraid that I will replace you in the future?"
Blood and snot mingled and flowed down his cheeks, but his stubborn gaze remained unwavering.
"Ha! What a joke! You're a piece of trash who doesn't even know breathing techniques, yet you dare to dream of replacing me? What utterly ridiculous nonsense are you spouting?"
A flicker of pain crossed Sanemi's eyes. He knew his words were hurting his younger brother, but there were some things he had to say.
From the day our family members were injured and attacked by evil spirits, some things were beyond redemption.
He slowly released Xuanmi's collar, then grabbed his wrist, which was tightly gripping the door, and tightened his grip. "Since you're so disobedient, I'll cripple your hand and see how you'll hold a knife then!"
Holy crap!
"Stop! Sanemi!"
Everyone gasped in surprise, and several people rushed forward to stop them.
"Get out of my way! Don't force me to beat you all up too!"
Despite being pulled and tugged by the crowd, Sanemi retaliated without hesitation, like a furious lion with astonishing strength.
He stopped everyone in their tracks for a moment.
"Brother Sanemi!"
A pink kimono crashed into them with a loud "bang" without slowing down at all.
Sanemi cursed and swung his fist, but when his eyes met a pair of red, tear-filled eyes, he froze on the spot.
"Thump—"
He let her tackle him to the ground, his hands firmly planted on the ground, glaring angrily, "What are you doing meddling in this mess? Is this a place for you to act recklessly? You and he are both forbidden from ever appearing in the Butterfly Mansion again until you've mastered the breathing technique!"
Sanemi's arm muscles were taut, and his veins were bulging. Chinatsu's strength to suppress him was practically useless to him, but for some reason, the places where she touched him felt tingly and numb, and he couldn't exert any strength for a while.
Chika was practically straddling him, stubbornly pressing his arms down with both hands, yelling and screaming, "Mind your own business!! Do you believe I'll bite you?"
Xuanmi looked at her thin arms and legs and her loud and boisterous appearance, and the anger burning in his eyes dissipated with a "whoosh".
Memories surfaced; how long ago it was, when he was beating up Genya, Sadako and Koto had also tried to stop him in the same way.
Sanemi pressed her head down and rubbed it hard. "You little brat, you've got some nerve! Let go! This is my family's business! Don't make me beat you up!"
"No!" Qianxia lowered her head, refusing to budge an inch, a faint electric current emanating from her hand. "I'm living in your house now, so your house is my house, and your family matters are my family matters. You're not allowed to hit my brother!!"
Sanemi's fingers felt tingly and he subconsciously let go of her. "Your little brother?" His lips twitched. Today he had witnessed another side of this clingy person—the one who would take advantage of anyone.
"elder brother......"
On the other side, Genya struggled to lift his head, his voice hoarse but firm, "I know you're doing this for my own good... but I'm not a child anymore. I have my own choices, and I want to fight alongside my brother..."
"Brother, just say yes to him," Qianxia couldn't stand it anymore. She tugged at him and hummed softly, "If you say yes to him, I'll say yes to you too, okay?"
"From now on, we'll train hard with you! I won't slack off, I won't cheat, and I won't sleep on the mountain, okay? My lord said I'm very talented, didn't he?"
When she said "I agree" to the first sentence, she looked at Sanemi, but when she said "I agree" to the second sentence, she looked at Genya.
After this experience, she realized that Genya was actually a pretty good guy, with a decent physique and the potential to become a Nen user.
Upon hearing this, Xuanmi's eyes lit up instantly, and he kowtowed several more times with a "thump."
This was their secret, but to others, it seemed as if he was asking his brother for help again.
Sanemi glanced at his younger brother, then glared at Chinatsu who was pinning him down, grinding his back teeth, "Are you two in cahoots?"
Qianxia was afraid he would do something reckless again, so she bent down and hugged his waist tightly, her hands gripping the fabric of his shirt on both sides of his waistline, and her legs wrapped around his calves. "We're in calves! I won't let go until you agree!"
Clingy and annoying, truly infuriating.
You might say he'd hit her, but this guy's still a kid who doesn't know how to breathe properly; it's unlikely he'd bother hurting her.
You told me to let her be, but she took advantage of my kindness and started drying her clothes in the sun.
Sanemi sighed, secretly thankful that this person wasn't from her own family. She wondered how her older brother, Chizuru, had raised her.
"Let go!"
He tugged at Qianxia; the little girl had a strong grip, her nails digging into her flesh, and her stubborn eyes and clenched teeth showed she was someone who wouldn't back down.
Chika's fingers tightened. "No!"
Sanemi rolled his eyes, scratched his head in annoyance, and simply let her be.
He looked at his younger brother. As the saying goes, there is no harm without comparison. Compared to him, Xuanmi seemed to be too disobedient.
"Sigh..." He sighed, "Genya, this isn't child's play. The Demon Slayer Corps has never been a place for you to show off your heroism!"
He knew his younger brother's nature all too well: he would never give up until he achieved his goal, and he would never turn back until he hit a brick wall.
Everyone looked at Sanemi, and Genya looked at him nervously as well. He knew very well in his heart that it was Chinatsu who had agreed, but whether or not it would work out was ultimately up to his brother to make the final decision.
"Let's go home first and talk about it then."
This is the only weakness Sanemi can yield to right now.
......
Inside the Ubuyashiki residence, Kagaya Ubuyashiki listened to Kasugai's report, and his entire demeanor softened.
"It seems that Chika and Genya are both very good kids. As for hiding her strength, she must have her own reasons."
"It's okay, one day she'll open her heart. Sanemi's a good kid, isn't she?"
