Ye Liyuan was taken aback, trying to control his expression, but little one still noticed something. He felt a wave of remorse and self-blame. Both the Qin and Ye families hoped that their adult conflicts wouldn’t affect little one, but reality often defies wishes.
Ye Liyuan’s silence made little one understand something. Qin Sui’an lowered her head, her previously energetic little voice now filled with sadness, "Second Uncle, why can’t Mommy and Daddy meet?"
The two questions little one asked left Ye Liyuan speechless. Seeing her dejected appearance, he felt a tightness in his chest, as if someone was squeezing his heart and covering his mouth and nose, making it hard to breathe. He placed his hand gently on her head, soothingly rubbing it, and softly said, "Ann, it’s not that your Mommy and Daddy can’t meet, it’s just that they might need a little more time."
Qin Sui’an looked up with her bright eyes now brimming with tears, "Why?"
Her voice, laced with a touch of nasal tone, made Ye Liyuan feel even worse. He gently wiped the wetness from the corners of her eyes and said softly, "Ann, your mommy is still asleep. Even if your daddy comes to see her, it wouldn’t make a difference; there’s no need."
Qin Sui’an sniffled softly, contemplating what her second uncle had said. Ye Liyuan quietly patted her back, silently accompanying her without interruption. After a while, she seemed to understand, muttering in her little voice, "Second Uncle is right. Daddy isn’t a doctor, mommy is still sleeping, and daddy has to work."
So it still needed time before her Mommy and Daddy could meet. Ye Liyuan, seeing her bright smile return, felt relieved. He had been worried about how to handle it if little one had a tantrum, but she didn’t; she was smart and well-behaved.
Getting back to the main point, Qin Sui’an looked at her second uncle again and asked, "Second Uncle, can Ann video call daddy so he can see mommy?" 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Ye Liyuan couldn’t refuse her request; he had no reason or qualification to do so. Without further hesitation to avoid making little one overthink, he nodded and said, "Yes."
"Yay!" Qin Sui’an cheered, her previous sadness gone. She wrapped her little arms around her second uncle’s neck, happily rubbing her soft face against his neck, "That’s great!"
The scent of her milky sweetness filled the air, making Ye Liyuan smile. He carried her to the room, his steps lightened by her affectionate gestures. Seeing her little bed next to the hospital bed, he placed her in it, "I’ll get some milk. Ann, you can start the video call."
He reminded her, "Ann, if anything happens, call me or press this red button by the bed, okay?"
Qin Sui’an nodded vigorously, her little voice answering sweetly, "Ann knows~"
