Old Mr. Qin considered himself a man of few words and didn’t know how to comfort his little granddaughter. He glanced at the chessboard in the living room and got an idea.
When Little One wasn’t at Bay Villa, everyone was busy with their own things, and the chessboard was mostly used by Old Mr. Qin and Old Mrs. Qin for casual games.
Old Mr. Qin pointed to the chessboard and gently asked his granddaughter, "Ann, are you tired? If not, how about a game of chess?"
Qin Sui’an’s gaze followed her grandfather’s direction, and she immediately smiled, her eyes forming crescents. "Ann’s not tired! Ann wants to play chess too!"
In the past few days, Little One had also played chess with her grandparents and uncles at the Ye family, and for her, playing chess with family never got old.
"Great!" Old Mr. Qin promptly stood up, fetched the chessboard, and placed it on the table between them.
Thanks to his granddaughter, Old Mr. Qin had studied chess quite a bit recently, and he was no longer a complete novice.
As he set up the pieces, he pretended to be very knowledgeable and told his granddaughter, "Ann, I’ve learned a lot of new chess strategies recently. Don’t be too surprised if I win a game or two!"
Qin Sui’an’s eyes widened, and she exclaimed, "Wow! Grandpa has become so good?"
She remembered that her grandpa used to lose quickly when they played before.
Old Mr. Qin proudly lifted his chin, "Yes, I’ve improved a lot!"
Old Mrs. Qin couldn’t help but laugh, "Oh, come on, you might be able to beat me, but there’s no way you can beat Ann."
"Just wait and see, I’ll show you!" Old Mr. Qin proposed, "How about a bet? If I win, I get to take Ann out alone for a day. If Ann wins, Little Jin, you can decide what I have to do."
"That’s a bit childish," Old Mrs. Qin said, smiling. Then she nodded, "Alright, if Ann wins, I’ll take Ann out alone for a day, and you can’t come along."
Qin Sui’an listened to her grandparents’ conversation, turning her little head to look at whoever was speaking, her big round eyes full of seriousness. When they finished talking, she clapped her hands excitedly, "Yay! No matter who wins, Ann gets to go out and play for a day!"
Old Mrs. Qin’s smile deepened, and she lovingly hugged her, kissing her soft cheek, "Yes, Ann, you get to go out and play for a whole day."
With the bet in place, Qin Sui’an was especially looking forward to the chess game. When her grandpa finished setting up the pieces, she eagerly said, "Grandpa, you go first!"
"Me first? Well then, I won’t hold back."
Although his granddaughter was only three and a half years old, she was a well-known chess prodigy. Old Mr. Qin didn’t refuse and, with a serious expression, carefully picked up a chess piece and made his move.
Qin Sui’an, on the other hand, was very relaxed and even chatted with her grandma, "Grandma, Ann also played chess with my grandparents and uncles at the Ye family!"
Old Mrs. Qin smiled and asked, "How are their chess skills?"
"My third uncle is... hmm," Qin Sui’an couldn’t say anything bad, so her "hmm" conveyed her meaning clearly enough.
