Chapter 273: Admitting Defeat

After saying "hmm," Qin Sui’an added in her sweet little voice, "My third uncle just doesn’t play chess much. If he practiced as much as Ann and participated in many competitions, he would definitely improve."

Ye Rongyuan wasn’t very interested in chess and hadn’t touched a chessboard until Little One came along, so his skills were considered the worst among her family members.

Old Mrs. Qin couldn’t help but laugh at her granddaughter’s words, affectionately patting her head, "Ann, you’re right. Your third uncle just needs to play more."

Qin Sui’an continued chatting with her grandma while easily playing chess with her grandpa. She multitasked effortlessly, while Old Mr. Qin’s confident expression gradually turned serious. Eventually, he couldn’t even muster a smile.

Old Mrs. Qin couldn’t help but tease him, "Just because you don’t want me to take Ann out alone, you’re taking this so seriously."

Old Mr. Qin realized his expression might have been too stern, and his wife was reminding him not to scare their precious granddaughter. He quickly adjusted his demeanor, "Don’t overthink it, I’m just seriously playing chess with Ann."

He sighed, "Looks like I might really give you a chance to take Ann out."

"Are you sure it’s you giving it?" Old Mrs. Qin couldn’t help but laugh. It was clear that he was going to lose to their granddaughter.

Old Mr. Qin looked at her with a grievance, "Little Jin..."

Couldn’t she save him some face in front of their granddaughter?

Old Mrs. Qin cleared her throat and pretended to be profound, "Alright, alright, I won’t say anything more. I’ll just quietly watch."

But Old Mrs. Qin couldn’t stay quiet for long, because soon, Old Mr. Qin lost. Although he had prepared himself mentally for not being able to win against their granddaughter, he had put a lot of effort into learning chess, only to still lose badly. He felt both admiration for his granddaughter’s skills and frustration over his own efforts seeming wasted.

Old Mrs. Qin saw through his hidden disappointment and comfortingly patted his hand, "You might not be able to beat Ann, but you’ve definitely improved a lot. That’s a fact."

Qin Sui’an nodded in agreement, "Yes, Grandpa has improved a lot! Ann thinks Grandpa has become really good!"

The combination of his wife and granddaughter’s roundabout compliments and consolation made Old Mr. Qin’s mood brighten immediately. He laughed, "Really? I didn’t study for nothing?"

"Of course," Old Mrs. Qin affirmed.

Qin Sui’an also nodded, her sweet little voice oozing cuteness, "Grandpa didn’t study for nothing~"

"Hahaha..." Old Mr. Qin was overjoyed. He didn’t forget to push his luck further, turning to his wife, "Little Jin, since I didn’t study for nothing, how about you let me join you when you take Ann out to play?"

"Hmph, dream on," Old Mrs. Qin said with a smile, "Are you going to go back on your word in front of Ann? A bet’s a bet, Ah Huo."

Naturally, Old Mr. Qin didn’t want to set a bad example for his precious granddaughter. He had to set a good example.

Internally, he regretted ever making a bet with Little Jin.

Old Mrs. Qin hugged her granddaughter tightly and asked her with a smile, "Ann, is there a place you want to go? Grandma will take you there!"
