"This evidence took me a long time to gather; I must show it to Attorney Qin!"
"Even if it’s fake, who would know? As long as I don’t say it’s fake..."
Qin Sui’an paused, glancing back in the direction of the voice. She blinked, puzzled.
The assistant carrying the coffee cautiously followed her and asked, "Little sister, what’s wrong?"
Qin Sui’an tilted her head curiously. "Big sister, is there someone in that room?"
"Yes, that’s the reception area, and there’s a client inside," the assistant explained more plainly. "He’s a guest of Attorney Qin."
"Oh~" Qin Sui’an nodded and then continued running toward her Third Brother’s office.
Watching the surveillance feed, Qin Lvzheng saw Ann approaching and quickly got up to wait by the door. When he heard a knock, he opened it right away. "Ann."
"Third Brother, coffee is here~" Qin Sui’an pointed to the assistant behind her. "It’s prepared by the big sister."
The assistant looked guilty as she glanced at Attorney Qin. "I’m sorry, Attorney Qin; I forgot to prepare your coffee."
"Put it on the table." Qin Lvzheng eyed the cup but didn’t say more. He picked up Ann and walked into the office.
The assistant set the coffee down on his desk, and after a moment, Ann quietly retreated, gently closing the door behind her. She sighed in relief, wiping her brow. Thank goodness Attorney Qin wasn’t upset.
Settling on the sofa with Ann in his arms, Qin Lvzheng asked, "Did you hear anything while you were in the tea room?" He noticed on the monitor that two employees had rushed out, looking as if they had been caught gossiping.
Qin Sui’an blinked, confused. She had heard something, but it didn’t seem like bad words. "Third Brother, everyone seems so scared of you." She looked up at him with wide, curious eyes. "Why are they afraid? You look so handsome and aren’t fierce at all!"
Qin Lvzheng couldn’t help but smile at her compliment, feeling warmth spread through him. As for the employees’ fear, he didn’t think much of it. The Qin family often appeared cold to outsiders, and as the boss of the law firm, his presence alone could instill a sense of intimidation.
He pondered, "Maybe it’s because I don’t smile much?"
Qin Sui’an earnestly replied, "But Ann thinks Third Brother smiles a lot!" Her family was all about smiles, at least in her eyes.
Qin Lvzheng’s smile deepened. Since Ann came back, he found himself smiling more often than in the past three years combined.
Suddenly, Qin Sui’an recalled the earlier conversation and asked, "Is the guest in the reception area here to see Third Brother?"
Qin Lvzheng hesitated, furrowing his brow. "Did Ann see him?"
This client, Lu Keliang, had quickly become someone Qin Lvzheng despised. If not for already taking the case, he wouldn’t want to deal with such a person at all. Hearing Ann mention him made him worry about what the man might say or do in her presence.
Sensing her brother’s concern, Qin Sui’an reached out to hold his hand reassuringly. "Don’t worry, Third Brother; Ann didn’t see him. I just heard what the people in the reception area were thinking."
Qin Lvzheng raised an eyebrow, surprised that even without seeing, Ann could hear thoughts. Her ability was more remarkable than he realized. But now wasn’t the time to dwell on that; he needed to know what the client had said. "Ann, what did he say?"
The client often boasted nonsensically, and Qin Lvzheng wanted to shield Ann from any corrupting words.
Qin Sui’an recalled, her expression turning serious. "The guest said he spent a lot of time on the evidence, and even though it’s fake, if he doesn’t say it’s fake, no one will know." She scrunched her little nose, visibly displeased. "He also complained that Third Brother is too busy to meet him."
Qin Sui’an understood that since her brother disliked this man, she wouldn’t like him either.
Qin Lvzheng had anticipated this; the client kept making unfounded claims that couldn’t hold up in court. He’d repeatedly advised him that if he didn’t trust the process, he shouldn’t hire him, but the client clung on stubbornly.
Gently squeezing Ann’s hand, he reassured her, "Don’t engage with him, Ann, and don’t be upset."
Qin Sui’an looked up, her big eyes serious. "Third Brother, is the guest always lying? Will you lose the case?" She didn’t quite grasp the concept of a lawsuit, but she understood that there could be winners and losers. And if this man’s lies led to her brother losing, she would be very angry!
"Not necessarily," Qin Lvzheng replied, hesitant to assure her he would win. If the client kept lying, it would be challenging to succeed. He preferred taking on tough cases that justified his fees.
As a lawyer, his duty was to protect his client’s rights, uphold the law, and maintain justice. He believed that if the client cooperated fully, he could still win. Unfortunately, the client just wouldn’t listen.
Seeing her brother troubled by the man’s deceit made Qin Sui’an anxious too, her little lips pouting. Suddenly, her eyes lit up. "Third Brother, Ann can help you!"
