Chapter 30 Yun-ge, why aren't you married yet?
"Were you threatening her just now?" Xiang Yun stood next to Xu Songning, her tall figure forcing the man to take a few steps back. He awkwardly scratched the back of his head. "No! I was just joking with this beautiful lady. I asked Li Ran to blow-dry her hair!"
Li Ran was called out, and the man disappeared. Only then did Li Ran breathe a sigh of relief. "So you brought your boyfriend. I was worried about you."
"Does he often do this?" Xu Songning didn't refute her boyfriend's statement. Since she was already misunderstood, why bother explaining so much? Judging from Xiang Yun's appearance, he didn't seem like someone who cared about this matter.
Li Ran didn't dare to speak, she just shook her head and quietly dried Xu Songning's hair. Halfway through, she took advantage of the noise from the hairdryer to whisper in Xu Songning's ear, "Maybe it's because you came to the store alone and you're very pretty, sister."
"Hmph, that's no excuse for him to harass me. Be careful not to get bullied." Xu Songning frowned.
"Thank you for reminding me, sister. I'll talk to my brother about this today. He's wanted to replace him for a long time. If it weren't for our friendship, he would have broken ties with him long ago. The new hairdresser will be here in a few days," Li Ran whispered.
"Your brother?" Xu Songning asked in surprise. Li Ran just smiled and didn't say anything.
When Xu Songning was paying the bill, her eyes fell on the photos on the wall and she realized that the store manager's surname was Li. Li Ran noticed her gaze and stuck out her tongue at her.
After washing her hair, Xu Songning felt refreshed. She raised her hand to brush her long, ink-black hair aside and turned her head to Xiang Yun. "Hey, where's Sanhua?"
"The vet said it has a fracture and needs treatment. We'll pick it up in about two weeks. I left my phone number, and we'll see who has time to come and get the cat then," Xiang Yun said.
“Okay, but if we can’t find an owner, I can’t take care of it. Can we board it here? Or do you have any friends who have cats? Xiaomeng lives with her family, her aunt is allergic to cat fur, and Qiaoqiao’s daily routine is just as chaotic as ours, so it would probably be difficult for her to take good care of a cat.” Xu Songning was a little troubled.
"It's alright, you can board it here for a while. First, try to find its owner, and if you really can't, you can find an adopter. Go back now, you have to go to work tomorrow, right?" Xiang Yun waved his car keys.
Xu Songning followed in his footsteps, "Have you paid the fee? How much was it? I'll transfer it to you."
"Need not."
"No need?" Xu Songning's eyes darted around. "Then, I'll treat you to dinner next time?"
"When is the next time?" Xiang Yun turned to look at her.
Xu Songning walked to the spot next to him, thought seriously for a while, and said, "Let's check the shifts next week."
The car was warm, so the two took out their phones to check shift schedules and finally chose a Friday, a day when both of them were off work.
"If the dispatcher doesn't call me, then there's no problem." Xiang Yun put away his phone and prepared to drive.
Xu Songning's eyelids twitched, and he quickly stopped him, "Brother Yun! You can't say things like that."
"Is it considered taboo in the industry?" Xiang Yun smiled, his long, slender hand resting on the steering wheel.
"How can it not count? Don't you worry about this when you're flying? You were supposed to be resting, but the dispatcher called and said they wanted you to work overtime..."
A vibration sound rang out in response, and the atmosphere inside the car fell silent.
Xiang Yun took a deep breath, took out his phone from his pocket, and saw the words "Dispatch" displayed on the screen.
"Brother Qian."
"Xiang Yun, I'm sorry to call you so late at night. The main thing is that a captain on a flight tomorrow is feeling unwell and can't board. I was just wondering if you're free tomorrow?"
The car was quiet, and the voices from the other side reached Xu Songning's ears without any problems.
"It's alright, it won't cause any delays. I just got off the plane not long ago. What time is my flight scheduled? Let me check if the time matches up." Xiang Yun rubbed his temples.
"It'll be 3 PM this afternoon. You should be able to recover from your rest, right? Don't drink!"
“Okay…” Xiang Yun hung up the phone. The two looked at each other and smiled. One smiled bitterly, while the other smiled gloatingly.
"See, there are rules about industry taboos, so don't bring them up next time." Xu Songning leaned back in his chair, laughing so hard his shoulders were shaking.
"Alright, go home and rest." Xiang Yun sighed softly, his brows furrowing and then relaxing, adding, "I won't say it again next time."
"Don't be angry, I won't answer the dispatch call next time," Xu Songning joked.
Xiang Yun raised an eyebrow, looking at her smug expression, and remembered the message he had seen in the group that day. So, he casually said, "If I land on your sector tomorrow, can I practice my English? Shanghai Approach."
Practicing English—what a terrifying phrase.
Xu Songning covered her forehead, her laughter abruptly stopping. "I dare not laugh at you anymore. But your English must be pretty good, right? You used to fly international flights."
What? Are you afraid I won't explain it well?
“It’s okay if you don’t speak it well, just don’t make mistakes. That day…” Xu Songning recounted what happened that day, clutching her heart, “You don’t know, when I heard the wrong English recitation, my blood pressure had already risen to this level.”
Xu Songning gestured to the top of his head. "This isn't the first time something like this has happened, and I've tried my best to stay calm. Hearing accented English is even more challenging, and I have to slow down my speech. When there are many planes, it's inevitable to get a little irritable, and my tone might be a bit harsh. So I hope the captain and air traffic controllers can understand each other; everyone has their own difficulties."
“I understand, and I fully support Sister Xu’s work,” Xiang Yun said easily.
"You really call me Sister Xu? Captain Xiang, how old are you? I didn't even know." Xu Songning tilted her head to look at him. Xiang Yun was also very charming when he was driving, especially with his hair styled, which gave him a mature look.
"I'm actually 30 years old, how many years older than you?"
“He’s three years older than me, but you don’t look it. Brother Yun looks quite young,” Xu Songning said with a smile.
Is it obvious?
"Wow!" Xu Songning looked at him curiously, wanting to ask some questions, and tonight was a good time. "Several captains I know who are about your age are married, Yun-ge, how come you're still single?"
"I was too focused on flying when I was studying, and I was too busy with work, so the talks didn't go smoothly," Xiang Yun replied.
"How exactly did things not go smoothly?" Xu Songning asked curiously.
“She’s an illustrator with a lot of free time, but she’s under a lot of pressure. She had symptoms of depression before we started dating, but I only found out about it after we started dating. But flying international flights is so busy, and I often have to stop over abroad. At that time, wherever we flew, we stayed in hotels with the crew. When I was alone, I didn’t think there was anything wrong, but when we were together, the problems slowly surfaced. I couldn’t take care of her, and she resisted going to the doctor.” Xiang Yun slowly drove the car into the underground parking garage, looking for a parking space.
"Like a bird without feet, it can't land at all." Xu Songning rested his chin on his hand, as if he had remembered something.
Xiang Yun paused for a moment, then nodded self-deprecatingly, "You're right, but there's always a way to stop it, if the bird wants to."
