Chapter 31 Are you single?
Xu Songning reacted quickly, "So you switched to domestic routes because of this?"
"One reason is that after she agreed to see a doctor, I was determined to take her for treatment, and thankfully her condition has stabilized. The other reason is that my younger sister graduated and is working in Shanghai, and my parents' work focus is also shifting to Shanghai, so I chose flight routes to and from Shanghai and the surrounding areas," Xiang Yun frankly stated.
“That’s good. I can go home and reunite with my family.” Xu Songning nodded.
"And you? Are you single?" Xiang Yun backed the car into the parking space and turned his head to look at her.
"Yes, I talked about a pilot before, but he was like the kind of bird I described without feet, circling endlessly in the sky, hoping I would give up my career to follow in his footsteps. Good heavens, if marriage and love are such a trap, then I'm not willing to accept it." Xu Songning replied with a smile, so much time had passed that she no longer felt anything when talking about it.
I had been feeling a dull ache in my heart, but there was really nothing to be sad about.
“You won’t give up,” Xiang Yun looked at her deeply, as if he could see into her soul. “I can tell you really like this job, you almost never complain, you could say you love it?”
Xu Songning said with a smile, "Brother Yun, you really understand me."
"Will you still talk about being a pilot? Do you have any prejudice against this profession?" Xiang Yun asked seemingly casually.
Xu Songning blinked, twirled her hair with her fingers, hummed, and replied with a smile, "Of course I won't be prejudiced! Everyone is different, and once bitten, twice shy. I, Xu Songning, am not that kind of person."
The two had essentially laid their cards on each other's cards and didn't mention anything else until they stood at each other's doorsteps.
"Goodnight, Yun-ge." Xu Songning placed the key in his palm, her fingers gently brushing against his palm, and raised an eyebrow.
Xiang Yun caught the keys, held the keychain, and gently shook it. "Goodnight."
The next day, everyone had their own shifts and went to bed early.
Perhaps it was the industry "taboo" that he casually mentioned that day, but on Friday, Xiang Yun received another dispatch call, and the two of them couldn't meet up for dinner. They were so busy that they couldn't even see each other once. Although they lived close by, they basically couldn't see each other if their shifts were different.
"Let's have dinner together again next time." Xu Songning sent the message while lying in bed. She was getting ready to sleep and yawned.
Xiang Yun had a flight mission and was sitting on the shuttle bus with the crew, preparing to go to the airport. His flight bag was placed next to his feet, and he was typing a message.
"Okay, aren't you going on vacation in March? We'll wait until you come back from your vacation, no rush."
Xu Songning rolled over in bed, stuffing a pillow under his head to elevate it. "Okay. But March is all about military and civil aviation, and I'll be busy with meetings. I won't have time to take care of Sanhua for now, and I haven't been able to find her owner. What should I do?"
She thought that Xiang Yun probably wouldn't have time to raise it, so why not find it to be adopted? However, Sanhua's current expenses are all paid by its father, so she still had to ask Xiang Yun's opinion.
"The doctor said I haven't fully recovered yet and need to stay for another week. If I'm still busy, I'll continue to stay in foster care for a while longer."
"Arrived at the airport, time for a meeting, bye."
Xu Songning touched the smile on her lips. For some reason, she was quite happy to learn that Sanhua didn't have to be sent away so soon, and sent a waving cat emoji.
The two never meet in person, but they often chat on WeChat.
Before they got to know each other, Xu Songning thought Xiang Yun was really aloof, and they hardly ever chatted on WeChat. But now, she finds Xiang Yun quite interesting, so she enjoys teasing him on WeChat.
Xiang Yun was amused and exasperated, so he made a voice call directly, "Xu Songning, what time is it?"
Xu Songning squinted at the time. "11:23. What's wrong, Captain Xiang?"
"It's so late, why aren't you asleep yet? You have work tomorrow." On Xiang Yun's end, there was the roar of a sports car engine and the screeching of tires gripping the ground. He seemed to have moved a little further away, and covered the microphone, so the sound became a little quieter.
"I was getting ready to sleep, why is it so noisy over there?" Xu Songning pulled the covers over herself and rolled over out of boredom.
"I came to the race with Gu Xing." Xiang Yun walked further away, closed a door, and the noise was almost gone. "Still noisy?"
"Stop arguing, are you guys racing?" Xu Songning pictured Xiang Yun in a racing suit. Racing suits are very form-fitting, and any extra fat on a racer's body would make them look bulky, but if Xiang Yun wore one, he would look like a man with broad shoulders and a narrow waist.
“Gu Xing is playing with his girlfriend, but I value my life and still have to fly a plane.” Xiang Yun opened a bottle of beverage and poured it into a glass.
With a soft pop, Xu Songning heard the sound of the carbonated drink being opened.
"That's not fun at all. How about some friendly chat?" Xu Songning's voice was languid, unlike the usual one he heard on the channel. This voice made Xiang Yun feel very comfortable. He pressed his finger on the glass, focusing on a point, and spun the round glass around.
"No need, go to sleep early, you have work tomorrow."
"Really not going to use it? Aren't you lonely, Captain Xiang?" Xu Songning teased him with a smile.
Xiang Yun was silent for a few seconds, then chuckled helplessly, "Don't provoke me, don't you have work tomorrow?"
"Hahaha, I'm just kidding. Time for bed, goodnight." Xu Songning moved closer to the phone and turned up the volume.
"Goodnight." Xiang Yun's deep, soothing voice came through the phone, and Xu Songning hung up with satisfaction.
For several days in a row, Xu Songning was in an exceptionally good mood. Even when Director Liu told her that she might be taking on an apprentice after her vacation, she accepted without hesitation.
"You're about to take your vacation, why are you in such a good mood?" Director Liu teased her.
Xu Songning glanced at the time. Ms. Xu's flight would arrive in Shanghai in two days. Once Ms. Xu adjusted to the time difference, she would begin her vacation.
"I'm definitely in a good mood because I'm on vacation." Xu Songning smiled as she went to the storage room to get her things. She was in a good mood because she was on vacation, but it wasn't just because she was on vacation.
Lu Xiaomeng was waiting for her to have dinner, and they discussed on the way to her the importance of being safe at home, and that it would be best to set up a one-click alarm.
"Okay, don't worry about me. There are security guards patrolling the community every night now, and it's hard for strangers to enter. Don't worry." Xu Songning patted her head. How did the little girl end up comforting him?
"What about the cat you found? That calico one you posted on your WeChat Moments looks so cute, it's a pity my mom is allergic to cat fur, otherwise I really wanted to keep it." Lu Xiaomeng grabbed her arm, "Let me see the picture again."
"We haven't found an adopter yet; we're keeping her at the pet hospital for now." Xu Songning took out his phone to show her photos.
Suddenly someone called her from behind.
"Xu Songning!"
The voice sounded somewhat familiar, and carried a hint of anger.
