(7 Fresh Coins) Chapter 13 (Part 2) The Traitor?
The doorbell was still ringing, but Xu Qi deliberately slowed his pace, delaying the time it took to open the door. He knew who it was. Thinking of that person's beautiful features, his heart began to race. He inwardly cursed himself for being so pathetic; he had just seen the person with a woman that afternoon, yet he was still so excited to see them that evening—he didn't want to admit it, but he truly was looking forward to it. No matter what the other person had done, he couldn't control his desire to see them.
He slowly opened the door, but froze for a moment.
"I knew it was here." Shawn smiled, his eyes narrowing, and walked inside quite naturally. "I was just passing by and thought I'd drop by."
Xu Qi closed the door, turned around and walked over: "You seem quite relaxed." He never expected that the person who came would be Shawn, and he didn't have time to hide the disappointment on his face.
Shawn couldn't possibly have been unaware, but he was just pretending not to see it. He shrugged: "I'm always pretty free—compared to you."
Xu Qi frowned, poured him a cup of tea, stared at him for a few seconds, and suddenly curled the corners of his mouth: "If you're really that free, how about joining us?"
With a "pfft," Shawn, who was holding a teacup, suddenly sprayed tea all over Xu Qi's face.
"..." Xu Qi looked at him expressionlessly.
Shawn's expression became quite interesting, but thankfully he hadn't lost his temper. He looked around, quickly pulled out a few tissues, and hurriedly wiped Xu Qi's face dry. Then he opened his mouth, but ultimately couldn't utter a single word. Although it was indeed his fault, explaining was superfluous in this situation. Besides, why did the other person suddenly say such things? No matter how much free time he had, he couldn't have gone to such lengths to cause trouble, could he?
Xu Qi didn't say a word, quickly walked to the corridor, turned into the bathroom on the side, turned the faucet up to his face, and turned on the switch.
Shawn, sensing something was wrong, followed Xu Qi in. Seeing that Xu Qi showed no signs of losing his temper, he stammered an explanation: "Uh... I didn't... mean it..."
Xu Qi suddenly straightened up and turned around, his black hair sticking to his face, transparent water droplets constantly flowing down his honey-colored skin, and his shirt was also wet, the semi-transparent fabric clinging tightly to his full and firm chest.
Shawn immediately shut up, his mind screaming inwardly. Please! This is practically a crime! Although he knew he shouldn't be thinking like this in the moment, he couldn't help but stare intently at the other woman's voluptuous chest.
Xu Qi, of course, had no idea what he was thinking, and simply snorted, "You came here just to do this kind of thing?" Actually, he didn't care much about being sprayed with tea; after all, he wasn't a germaphobe. But taking this opportunity to get rid of this guy who seemed particularly annoying at the moment was a good idea.
Shawn snapped back to reality, his face showing embarrassment: "Of course not..."
He knew the other party was trying to get rid of him, but he couldn't back down like he used to. He composed himself and continued, "I'm here because of that matter you've been having recently."
"Oh?" Xu Qi raised an eyebrow. "It's rare that you're so concerned about our affairs." Shawn wasn't a member of the underworld and didn't usually care about these things, so he was somewhat surprised that he suddenly brought it up.
"I overheard some things, and I thought you might be interested." Shawn took a step back. "Shall we find somewhere else to talk?"
An hour later, Shawn opened the door, went straight to his car, and drove away. Squinting at the streetlights ahead, the worry that had been on his face slowly disappeared, replaced by a strange smile.
Xu Qi, who was sitting quietly on the living room sofa, suddenly leaned back against the soft cushions and raised his right hand to cover his eyes. His left hand held a photograph, the once smooth and flat sheet now deformed from his grip.
"Clang, clang, clang..." The art clock in the living room struck ten. Xu Qi's somewhat numb mind gradually came to its senses; it was already 10 o'clock. He slowly stood up, staggered into the bedroom, and lay down on the bed in a daze, still clutching the photograph tightly in his hand.
From the moment he read Ji Ruofei's file, he had a vague feeling, but he stubbornly ignored it. Until Shawn arrived, he knew that all the evidence pointed in the same direction: this matter was related to someone, or rather, that person was the mastermind behind it all.
He closed his eyes. No, he couldn't believe it. He had to wait, wait for that person to appear and tell him the truth in person.
He had never realized the night could be so long. Until he could no longer bear the stinging in his eyes and closed them, he finally understood that the person wouldn't come.
Ah... I got stood up.
