Chapter 2 First Meeting

Yancuo walked along, beads of sweat on her back. She was wearing loose clothes that were washed white, and even her shoes did not fit her feet.

Looking down at her toes, she didn't feel sad. The hardest times had already passed, so what was the big deal now? But thinking of that kind face, her heart still ached.

How could the only person who had ever treated me so well disappear so quickly? He looked up at the sky. The evening sun shone on the leaves, and the golden halo made anyone's eyes bright. Yan Cuo calmed down and continued walking forward, heading to the deepest part of the city, a dirty alley.

Suddenly, there was a sound of footsteps behind her. Yan Cuo turned around and looked, her face pale with fear. A group of people were chasing a boy, holding knives in their hands. She had never seen such a scene before, and for a long time she didn't know what to do. She just stared blankly.

The boy being chased glanced at her and continued running. The burly men with knives turned to look at her, "Where are you from? What did you see?" Yan Cuo's face turned even paler with fear, and she said, "I didn't see anything. I didn't see anything." The burly men glared at her and turned away.

The boy was eventually caught up, and she saw them fighting. To be more precise, the boy was being beaten up by a group of people. She was terrified, but she felt she couldn't just stand there and watch. She secretly ran to a roadside store and begged the owner to call the police. Then she stood there waiting, punching the boy again and again. Blood oozed from the corner of his mouth, but he never uttered a word.

Yan Cuo didn't know where she got the courage from, and shouted to the distance: "I've called the police, you are not allowed to beat him anymore." The group of strong men turned around and saw her in the corner, glaring at her viciously, "You little bastard, you dare to call the police, I'll kill you!" As they said that, a group of people came over. Yan Cuo was so scared that she kept backing away, and she felt that her legs had lost strength.

Just when she thought she was going to be beaten by this group of people, the alarm sounded. Seeing this, the group of strong men ran away quickly, cursing as they left.

Yan Cuo's face turned pale and he sat on the ground, wondering if he shouldn't have been nosy. He was already an unnecessary person in the family, and now he had caused trouble. Thinking of his aunt's angry face, he felt even more desperate.

The boy not far away saw her and just looked at her at first, watching her sitting on the ground without saying a word, her face pale and panicked. He actually found it funny that such a tiny person had saved him.

He walked to Yan Cuo's side, "Why did you call the police?" Yan Cuo looked up at him, "I saw them beating you all the time, I was afraid you were beaten to death." He pulled the corners of his mouth and suddenly smiled, ""How can it be so easy to die. Now that the police are here, let's go to the police station to make a statement together"

Yancuo tried to stand up, but couldn't stand up for a long time. The boy stretched out his hand, his hands were slender and long. Yancuo stretched out his hand stiffly, and the boy pulled her up. The two went to the police station together. Yancuo seemed to be terrified, and her face was pale the whole time.

When they finally left the police station, it was already dark. Yan Cuo looked into the distance and thought of her home, a home that had never been warm and was filled with only verbal abuse. The boy glanced at her and asked, "Where do you live? Do you want me to take you home?" Yan Cuo shook her head and said, "No, I can go back by myself." He turned and walked away, disappearing into the night.

The boy couldn't help but ask, and quickly chased after her. "My name is Yu Muyang, what's your name? Thank you for helping me." Yan Cuo looked at the boy in front of her in a panic. He was so white and tall, and just looking at her like that, she couldn't help but blush and said softly: "My name is Yan Cuo, Yan for words, Cuo for helplessness." After that, she ran away. The boy behind her didn't say anything, just watched her run away. We will meet again, he thought.

Yan Cuo returned to the home deep in the alley. His aunt's voice could be heard from a distance, "Why hasn't Yan Cuo come back yet? She's eating and drinking for free and not coming back to work. Tell me, why did you bring her back?"

His uncle's voice was not loud, but Yan Cuo heard it. "The child is still young. My sister doesn't care about her. As her uncle, I must take care of her."

Yan Cuo clenched the corner of his clothes and smiled bitterly. Wasn't he just a superfluous existence? He had never been valued since he was a child. His parents quarreled every day and never avoided Yan Cuo. In his parents' mouths, his birth was a mistake.

No matter what I say, anything I say will be wrong. Maybe I shouldn't have come into this world.

Only grandma would always look at him lovingly, give him snacks, and proudly tell others: "This is our granddaughter. Isn't she pretty?" Yancuo would always lower his head and smile embarrassedly.

She knew she was not pretty since she was little. Otherwise, why didn't her parents love her and always expressed regret and disgust when they mentioned her?

But such a kind grandma passed away. Before she left, she kept holding Yancuo's hand. Yancuo knew that she was afraid that he would be wronged in the future. Before grandma passed away, mom and dad finally appeared together in a seemingly harmonious manner. They and grandma promised that they would treat Yancuo well in the future and would not mistreat her.

Yan Cuo looked at the expressions on their faces. Even though he knew it was all fake, he couldn't help but think: How great it would be if this were true.

Grandma finally passed away peacefully. Yancuo knelt in front of her mourning hall, tears flowing unconsciously. She didn't know what the adults said, she only knew that from now on, no one would treat her so well, and she was truly homeless.

After my grandmother's funeral, my parents divorced quickly. The harmony they had before was like a mirage, and it was impossible to restore it.

Yancuo watched them arguing fiercely without saying a word, because she knew that no one wanted her. It was as if she had come into this world alone. She looked at them quietly, without a trace of emotion in her eyes, as if they were not her relatives, but just two strangers.
