After moving into the new home, the next step is to clear the land, plant crops, and collect resources.
After lunch, the two started repairing the yard, which was quite large and was enclosed by a fence.
Actually, it's just the two of them living here. There are wolves patrolling the area, so it doesn't really matter whether or not they install a fence. However, Xu Lin decided to install one so that it would feel like home and also provide privacy.
They plan to plant some vegetables and keep bees in the yard, but there's no water source. They rely on water from their spatial dimension for drinking and drinking. Although no outsiders will come here now, who can guarantee that no one will come in the future? This is a big problem.
The main task in the afternoon was to level the vegetable garden. Xu Lin set aside one acre to grow various crops. She had quite a few seeds on hand, and she planted a little of each to enrich the dining table.
Xu Lin cleared away the weeds, while Zhou Pin used farm tools to deeply till the land, breaking up and finer the compacted soil clods, turning the soil forward in the same direction.
After turning the soil, break up any large clods, apply base fertilizer and mix it evenly with the soil, then rake the soil flat. Before planting crops, make raised beds, roughly in the shape of tofu blocks, and leave a small ditch 20-40 cm wide on the side for drainage and irrigation.
After finishing all that, it was evening, and the two of them would rest in the cabin starting tonight.
Shuke and Beta's room is under the eaves of a wooden house, and Xu Lin firmly forbids them from entering the house. The last time they almost peed in the house, it left her with a trauma.
After finishing her meal, Xu Lin took paper and pen and started drawing at her desk in her room. First, she drew a fenced-off yard with bamboo planted inside. This would provide both aesthetic appeal and privacy, and the bamboo would also be useful – a triple benefit.
In the very center of the courtyard was their wooden house, with five steps leading up to it. Shuke and Beta lived on the left side of the corridor above the steps.
There was a flower bed on each side below the steps. Xu Lin wrote "rose" and "hydrangea" on the flower beds and drew a cobblestone path from the front of the wooden house to the gate of the yard.
On the right side of the path, which is also the right side of the front yard, Xu Lin plans to build a grape trellis and place a stone table under it. If outsiders come, they can sit here, and she and Zhou Pin can also eat here.
The left side of the front yard was originally intended to be a playground for Shuke and Beta, but they probably prefer to run around outside, so we decided to keep bees there instead.
Keeping bees requires flowers, so we also planted peach, pear, and apple trees so we can eat fruit later.
Speaking of fruit, Xu Lin wrote "Fruit Trees" on the left side of the front yard, regardless of what kind of fruit it is, she will plant whatever she can.
The backyard consists of a vegetable garden and a toilet, and there is also space for raising livestock. From left to right, the backyard has a pigsty, a chicken coop, a duck shed, a toilet, and a vegetable garden.
The pigsty, chicken coop, and duck shed haven't been built yet, but the space has been reserved first. Now, let's tidy up the vegetable garden. Xu Lin wrote on the vegetable garden: tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, green beans, chives, sweet potatoes, potatoes, pumpkins, winter melons... The more she wrote, the more necessities there were.
Zhou Pin was tinkering with his little invention when he looked up and saw Xu Lin writing so diligently, so he came over to see what she had written.
"The plan is good," Zhou Pin said.
"Wouldn't that mean we'd be busy farming, raising pigs, chickens, and ducks every day?"
"So what do you want to do every day?"
"Collect supplies!"
"You raise pigs and eventually slaughter them to make pork; you raise chickens and ducks to lay eggs or make chicken or duck meat; you grow and harvest vegetables—all of these are resources," Zhou Pin analyzed.
"I was narrow-minded!" Zhou Pin's words were a wake-up call for Xu Lin.
