This is exactly what happens when you tell so many lies that you forget which ones are true and which ones are false.
Jiang Hua stood to the side, quietly watching the conversation between the two.
“Xinxin, you must have misheard me. How could I have said such a thing?” Liu Yan’s expression hardened.
“I know I’m useless. I don’t have any capital to start a business, not even enough to buy medicine for my mother.”
After saying that, Liu Yan punched the wall.
"Brother Liu Yan, I won't allow you to talk about yourself like that. You still have me, and I will always be by your side." Meng Xin quickly grabbed Liu Yan's hand, which was pounding against the wall, her face full of heartache, and her eyes were red.
"Yes, Xinxin, you're all I have left, so could you lend me some more money? My mother's health is failing." Liu Yan said affectionately, embracing Meng Xin.
"But I don't have much money left," Meng Xin said with a troubled expression.
"Ahem!" Jiang Hua coughed lightly.
"Xinxin, who is this?" Liu Yan asked Jiang Hua.
“Brother Liu Yan, this is Jiang Hua, a female doctor from Mingdetang,” Meng Xin said.
Jiang Hua felt a pang of unease that she was bothering them by being there.
"Doctor?" Liu Yan asked suspiciously.
Jiang Hua did not miss the flirtatious look in Liu Yan's eyes.
"Why haven't I seen Doctor Jiang despite visiting Mingdetang so many times?" Liu Yan asked, feigning familiarity.
“Men and women are different, so Young Master Liu will definitely seek out a male doctor for treatment,” Jiang Hua said aloofly.
“Brother Liu Yan, it just so happens that Doctor Jiang knows medicine. We can have him take a look at your mother,” Meng Xin suggested.
“Xinxin, no need. Other doctors at Mingdetang have already examined her, so there’s no need to trouble Dr. Jiang.” Liu Yan’s expression suddenly changed as he declined.
“Okay.” Meng Xin didn’t suspect anything and didn’t pay much attention to Liu Yan’s expression. She was hesitating about how to bring it up.
"Young Master Liu, Miss Meng has something to tell you." After receiving Meng Xin's hint, Jiang Hua spoke directly.
"Xinxin, is there something you want to tell me?" Liu Yan asked tenderly.
"Brother Liu Yan, I'm pregnant, and it's yours," Meng Xin said shyly, then looked at Liu Yan with expectant eyes.
"What? Xin Xin, what did you just say?" Liu Yan's expression changed drastically, and he pushed Meng Xin away from his arms.
"Brother Liu Yan!" Meng Xin panicked when she saw Liu Yan's attitude change drastically and his face turn completely pale. She spoke softer and softer:
"Dr. Jiang said I am pregnant."
"Is it true?" Liu Yan himself didn't realize that his tone had become cold.
"It's true." Meng Xin nodded pitifully, her hand unconsciously touching her lower abdomen.
Perhaps realizing his attitude was somewhat inappropriate, Liu Yan said in a softer voice:
"Xinxin, what I mean is that we can find another doctor to take a look. It wouldn't be good if it were a misunderstanding."
"No," Meng Xin said, biting her lip.
"Why!" Liu Yan grabbed Meng Xin's shoulders with both hands, somewhat losing control as he asked.
"Dr. Jiang!" Meng Xin felt a sharp pain in her shoulder, forcefully broke free from Liu Yan's grasp, and hid behind Jiang Hua.
“Young Master Liu, you and Miss Meng aren’t married yet, so it’s best to keep this a secret as few people as possible.” Jiang Hua glanced at Meng Xin, who was hiding behind her, and then looked at Liu Yan.
"If gossipy people find out and spread the word, Miss Meng's reputation will be ruined."
Looking at Meng Xin, who was hiding behind Jiang Hua in fear, Liu Yan felt a pang of regret. He had acted too hastily just now.
Then, his eyes lit up and a brilliant idea suddenly came to him.
"Xin Xin, it's my fault. I didn't consider your feelings. Can you forgive me?" Liu Yan reached out his hand, gesturing for Meng Xin to come into his arms.
"If you are really pregnant, I will take responsibility for you, and we will get married right away, okay?"
"Really, Brother Liu Yan?" Meng Xin was touched by his words.
"Of course it's true. I'll treat you and the child well from now on." Liu Yan's sweet talk made Meng Xin blush and hide in his arms.
"So what do you plan to do?" Jiang Hua asked slowly.
So you think you can just rely on your words? I've been here for so long, and there's not even a chair in the house. The table is filthy, and the floor is even dirtier.
"Xinxin, you go back first. I'll come to your house to propose marriage first thing tomorrow morning."
Upon hearing this, Meng Xin looked at Liu Yan, who was hugging her, with sparkling eyes: "Really?"
"Yes, Xinxin, don't worry, I won't lie to you." Liu Yan was practically swearing an oath by raising three fingers.
"However, Xinxin, I don't have any money on me. Could you lend me some? Otherwise, I'll have to go to visit your mother empty-handed tomorrow."
Liu Yan looked annoyed: "I can't let my first visit leave a bad impression on your mother."
“This…” Meng Xin looked at Liu Yan, then at Jiang Hua and asked:
"Dr. Jiang, could you lend me some money? I'll pay you back when I get back."
“Sure, how much do you want?” Jiang Hua said leisurely.
"Brother Liu Yan, is twenty taels of silver enough?" Meng Xin asked Liu Yan.
"Xinxin, what can you buy with twenty taels of silver? Why don't you lend me fifty taels of silver, and I'll buy some things your mother likes for her?" Liu Yan coaxed.
"Fifty taels of silver?" Meng Xin exclaimed in surprise. How could it be so much?
However, when she thought that Liu Yan was also doing it for their future, she gritted her teeth and agreed.
"Dr. Jiang, could you lend me fifty taels?"
Jiang Hua nodded and took out fifty taels of silver ingots from her spatial storage without saying a word.
"Brother Liu Yan, I'm entrusting this to you." Meng Xin took the silver from Jiang Hua and handed it to Liu Yan: "I'll be waiting for you at home."
"Okay, Xinxin." Liu Yan quickly snatched the silver from Meng Xin's hand and said perfunctorily, "Xinxin, you and Doctor Jiang go back first. I'll go and make preparations now, and I'll come to see you first thing tomorrow morning, okay?"
"Yes." Meng Xin nodded in agreement.
After leaving Liu Yan's house, the two walked to the corner of an alley, where Jiang Hua pulled Meng Xin into a corner.
"Dr. Jiang, what's wrong?" Meng Xin looked at Jiang Hua with a blank and puzzled expression.
"Wait here for a while and see where he's going," Jiang Hua said calmly.
She had already seen how eager Liu Yan was to get rid of them after receiving the silver.
"Him?" Meng Xin was taken aback, then realized who Jiang Hua was referring to.
"Dr. Jiang, you've misunderstood. Brother Liu Yan isn't the kind of person you think he is."
"You'll find out soon enough whether it's true or not." Jiang Hua didn't choose to tell Meng Xin directly. She had already made up her mind about some things, and it was pointless for outsiders to say anything. It was better for her to see for herself.
Seeing Jiang Hua's insistence, Meng Xin felt a little annoyed, but she still had faith in Liu Yan.
