Chapter 6
I was stunned for a moment, then opened my eyes wide in shock.
My back slid down in a particularly pathetic way, and I covered my mouth, saying, "How did you know?"
Wu Qi raised his head and said quietly, "You still haven't answered me—is the pudding delicious?"
I swallowed, but couldn't taste any sweetness. All I felt was the bitterness of the wine going down my throat, and my heart ached terribly. If I could give this bitterness a name, I'd probably call it "guilt."
My survival instinct tells me I can't say it's delicious.
"It tastes awful."
I added, "It tastes terrible, really."
Wu Qi's expression softened, and he returned to normal. I finally breathed a sigh of relief; this little devil was really hard to appease.
...Wait, should I coax him?
Am I trying to comfort him?
When this behavior happened to me, I found it rather novel. In all my years, I've never actually coaxed anyone; by that logic, Wu Qi is the first.
That kid got off easy.
But then I remembered that usually, when I was furious, Wu Qi would hover around me, saying nice things and even sarcastic remarks to cheer me up. Now that I think about it, he's been coaxing me all along.
I looked at Wu Qi, whose dark eyes were looking elsewhere, his Adam's apple bobbing as if he was thinking about what to say.
He looked awkward and tense.
I... suddenly had an idea.
So, before the next evening breeze arrived, almost as if possessed, I reached out and ruffled his hair, just like he had done to me before.
Wu Qi's body visibly stiffened.
I took advantage of the gap and escaped, saying maliciously as I ran, "You're tough, but your hair is soft."
When he called my name, I had already run into the bathroom, closed the door, and pretended not to have heard anything.
This time, the old man has managed to turn the tables.
That night I had a rare dream.
The dream was chaotic and disorganized. One second I was wearing a plain robe, and the next I was wearing short sleeves and shorts like in the mortal world.
Perhaps it was because I touched Wu Qi's hair that I dreamed of what he looked like with long hair.
The Heavenly Realm doesn't have such strict requirements for hair. When I'm busy with official duties in my bedchamber, I just tie my hair up high with a red ribbon. I don't need to wear a hairpin, so I feel relaxed and comfortable.
Although Wu Qi is just as "lazy" as I am, he takes it to the extreme, making laziness a personality trait—he's even too lazy to comb his hair.
He wore a white robe, his long hair flowing down his back. When he looked back at you, a few strands of hair would stick out in front of his face, and his captivating peach blossom eyes had a unique charm.
When I had nothing to do, I would braid his hair while he was sleeping. A red rope would run from top to bottom, making it delicate and beautiful. The palace maids would line up to have me braid their hair when they saw it.
When Wu Qi woke up, he wasn't angry. At most, he took it off, tied the red string back to his hand, and said, "You'd better sleep in your bedroom from now on, or I'll catch you."
I made a face at him and said, "Who told you to have such long hair? I have to sweep the floor every time you come here. Don't come next time!"
Wu Qi didn't react much, but simply lifted a strand of hair and glanced at it.
I thought he would stay home quietly for a few days, but the next day, he showed up at the door with a neat short haircut.
I was sweeping the yard at the time, and I was so startled that I dropped the broom.
If Wu Qi had a touch of "charm" before, after the haircut, he was left with only a flamboyant style, like a gust of wind, indescribably eye-catching.
"Stunned?" He flicked my forehead, forcing a smile. "Welcome me now, huh?"
I swallowed hard, rubbed my forehead, and turned away, saying, "You look even sillier now. The God of Marriage doesn't welcome idiots."
But I didn't kick him out.
It's autumn, and the red leaves are falling. It would be nice to put a bench for him to rest on in the courtyard.
There are many things I'm unwilling to admit, but I believe that as long as I keep them deep in my heart, no one will be able to see through my little secrets. For example, the pudding is really delicious, Wu Qi's short hair, and... since I met Yu Yuan, going to school has become much more interesting.
Although some of the rumors are quite outrageous.
Some say I won over the top student, while others say I manipulated him.
No, is the second one crazy? I'll Photoshop it. I'm so bored. It's clearly him who's always hanging around me during breaks between classes.
Studying math today, chemistry tomorrow, I feel like I have two heads to crack.
We studied the problem so much that we even ate lunch together. Even Meng Xiaoqiong became quite familiar with him.
Meng Xiaoqiong doesn't have many hobbies, but she likes to give people nicknames. She used to call me "Little Red Rope," and now she calls Yu Yuan "Little Glasses."
One afternoon, we sat in the pavilion on the playground, feeling a bit too tired to study, so we started chatting about this and that.
"Little Glasses, tell me how you became number one? My mom wants me to ask you for advice," Meng Xiaoqiong asked.
Yu Yuan adjusted his glasses: "Speaking of this first, you must first have an iron will, and secondly, you must have a mind that can withstand scrutiny! When facing a formidable opponent like Sang Yue, you must not be afraid, but dare to challenge her!"
Meng Xiaoqiong: "Take the initiative! I understand, teacher. Please teach me a little more!"
...
One dared to speak, and the other dared to listen.
You two really don't respect me at all.
I was too lazy to join the group chat, so I took a bite of the milk in my hand, savored its sweet taste, and then looked away.
The school has a really nice environment. There is a quiet lake on one side of the pavilion, and an arched bridge connects the two banks, where students in white school uniforms walk.
If it weren't for their constant chatter, life would be peaceful and serene.
Suddenly, I noticed a girl running quickly across the bridge, one arm covering her tears. She tripped on the steps and fell. In her haste, she bumped into a classmate who was taking a walk.
I glanced behind her and saw a tall, slender man standing under a willow tree across the street. He wasn't wearing a school uniform, so he probably wasn't a student. When he stepped back a bit, revealing his entire face, I was instantly startled—I recognized him.
"Hey Xiaoqiong," I quickly nudged the person next to me, "Is that our history teacher?"
Meng Xiaoqiong was still immersed in the baptism of the academic superstar, and it took her a while to come back to her senses.
"History teacher—"
She stared intently, her nearsightedness acting up, and she squinted for a while. Finally, she came to her conclusion: "It really is him."
Immediately afterwards, Meng Xiaoqiong also noticed the girl who had lost her footing and was running wildly, and in an instant, she seemed to understand something.
"Holy crap, could that rumor be true...?"
Yu Yuan and I asked in unison, "What rumor?"
"That's the teacher, Li Fan. He's been dating young female students all these years, deceiving so many girls. I guess that one of them won't escape the same fate." Meng Xiaoqiong tossed her braids. "Sigh, if only someone could talk her out of it. This is a cursed relationship."
Yu Yuan also sighed, "What a pity, what a pity."
Yes, it's such a pity.
An ordinary person would probably just sigh with regret.
I'm different; please emphasize my role as the Matchmaker.
Is this a tragic fate? No.
This is a job offer.
