Chapter 79: You are so gentle in your letter
Sewell brought a mercury mirror. Olivia took it, thanked him, and then looked at her face carefully.
She had not been able to see for long and had no ability to distinguish between beauty and ugliness. She looked carefully at her eyebrows, eyes, nose, and lips, then smiled at herself, frowned, and made many expressions.
Darien asked Sewell to get a bottle, then casually opened a book and read without urging Olivia.
Finally, when Olyphia had seen enough, she came and stood beside him, but she did not speak, but waited until he finished turning the page.
"Miss Olyphia, are you ready?" Darien closed the book.
"I'm ready." Olivia nodded.
"Then let's get started. It'll be quick, just a cup of tea," said Darien.
The wizard picked up the empty glass bottle and chanted a spell. The Braille on the contract disappeared, and the parchment became smooth. Suddenly, crooked runes flew out from under the smooth paper and gently touched Olivia's face, as if kissing her.
Amid the chanting, colorful energy was introduced into the glass bottle and slowly accumulated from the bottom of the bottle. Olivia's face also changed little by little.
That face that was so beautiful that people couldn't help but marvel at it gradually lost its luster and became mediocre, like a once dazzling gem slowly changing into an inconspicuous pebble on the roadside.
When the bottle was full, Olivia's face became ordinary, not ugly, but this kind of face seemed to be everywhere, the weaver had this face, the maid who cleaned the fireplace had this face, and the little girl in the grocer's shop had this face...
"Is it ready?" Olivia's eyes widened as she saw the bottle in front of her was full.
"Okay, do you need a mirror?" Darien capped the bottle.
"Yes," said Olivia.
Sewell brought the mirror over, and Olivia looked at her new face and laughed, "It doesn't seem to be much different. I have eyebrows, eyes, a nose and a mouth, and my teeth are still straight."
Darien said, "Your soul remains the same."
Olivia didn't linger on the face in the mirror, but began to take off her jewelry. "Mr. Magician, do you have any extra rooms here? I'd like to stay here for a while. Can these jewelry be used as rent?"
Darien took it and said, "Your necklace is enough. I can take the other jewelry and exchange it for the corresponding gold coins for you."
So Olivia stayed in the tower temporarily.
It is not uncommon to have tenants in the tower. People will move in every once in a while. They have various reasons to move in that will not cause any harm to Mr. Mage. There are many rooms in the tower, so it is no problem to accommodate one person.
Mr. Wizard and Mr. Crow do not provide companionship services, so Olivia is alone most of the time. However, she has been learning to write recently, so Pluto spends more time with her.
Although Pluto is a mess when it comes to accounting, no one can compare to him when it comes to learning words. He is simply a perfect textbook.
The magic book opens itself, with Braille highlighted on the pages, and then the genre is written next to it, so Oliphia can learn bit by bit.
Pluto was a good teacher and Olyfia was a good student. Every day when they met at the dinner table or in the garden, she would proudly report her learning progress to Darien while holding her magic book.
This gave Darien the illusion that he was raising a daughter, and a very smart one at that.
"Miss Olivia, you are awesome." He thought Olivia's learning achievements were worthy of praise.
"Just call me Olivia. I'm not a lady anymore." Olivia blushed when she was praised.
She has not yet figured out her future, but she can now do many things that she could not do before, such as learning to make bread and simple sewing with Mrs. Fitch in the kitchen.
Oliphia had been living in the tower for some time, and Darien had seen how much she had learned and how she had changed, so he sent a letter to Queen Yolanda.
"Your Majesty, how are you these days? There is a young lady who is very intelligent and well-mannered, but has lost her status due to undisclosed reasons. She is currently residing in the tower. I would like to request that you issue her a legal identity certificate, allowing her to freely travel every inch of your land... In short, I assure you that this young lady is a kind-hearted and resilient girl. I hope you will grant my request."
Queen Yolanda's letter arrived in less than half a day.
"I'm glad to hear from you. I'm doing fine. Thank you for the potion you made; it's incredibly effective and has saved me a lot of trouble. Regarding this lovely lady, it's not difficult to obtain legal identification. I can grant this small request. However, you mentioned a lady of talent and character. Could I meet her? I'm in great need of a court lady."
A palace lady?
Darien took the letter and thought it was indeed a good idea.
Lady Mary had a good opinion of Queen Yolanda. He often listened to Lady Mary's secrets, and time had proven that Lady Mary's perception was indeed sharp.
I don’t know what Olivia thinks. Darian thinks her opinion should be respected.
After thinking it over, he picked up his pen and wrote a second letter to Queen Yolanda.
"I'm very pleased that you have agreed to my request. I've thought about it for a long time and believe that this matter still requires the consent of the lady herself. However, if I reveal it in advance and let her prepare, the excessive preparation and nervousness will affect your consideration of her. Therefore, could you please invite Her Majesty the Queen to the tower garden for afternoon tea, so that you and the lady can talk without knowing her identity? This would be a good opportunity for consideration."
Queen Yolanda's reply did not arrive until the next day.
"That's a good idea. I will accept your invitation. I will arrive on time at 4 pm tomorrow. I look forward to meeting you."
Darien was in a good mood and told Olivia that one of his friends would come to visit tomorrow and invited her to have afternoon tea with him.
"Me? Can I, too?" Olyphia asked.
"Of course, she's a lady. I thought you might have common topics. Just think of it as making a new friend." Darien said with a smile.
"Thank you for your invitation!" Olivia was very happy and ran out the door.
Darien looked out the window and saw Olivia running away, jumping happily under the apple tree like an excited rabbit.
"Dear master, you are very gentle." Sewell handed him a cup of hot tea.
"You have good taste." Darien took the teacup and blew away the steam coming out of it.
Seville hesitated to speak and finally stopped talking.
Soon it was the next afternoon, and Olivia was nervously and excitedly looking forward to the start of the afternoon tea.
Darien looked at her and thought that his decision was indeed the right one. If he had told her in advance that the Queen wanted to meet her, Olivia might have been more nervous.
Only after this meeting would he tell her about the palace lady-in-waiting and then wait for her decision.
Queen Yolanda arrived on time.
Her dress was not particularly formal, but rather an ordinary one among noble ladies. Olivia did not find it strange.
"Hello, I'm Yolanda. Darien mentioned you to me." Queen Yolanda smiled at Oliphia.
"Hello! I'm Olyfia. What did the magician say?" Olyfia smiled a little embarrassedly.
She did not associate Darien's friend with the queen who had just ascended the throne. Many people have the same name, so it is not surprising to have the same name.
"I praised you to her, saying that you are a lovely girl with great talent," said Darien.
"Wow!" Olivia's eyes lit up. "Am I really that smart? I think so too! I've learned so many words!"
"Olifia, is it Darien who is teaching you to write? I can't imagine it." Queen Yolanda smiled and looked at Olifia, then at Darien.
"No." Olyfia shook her head. "It was Pluto. He taught me!"
The magic book flew out proudly, flew around twice as if showing off, and the pages flipped open, revealing the words that Olivia had learned in the past few days.
"It looks like Braille. Are you learning Braille?" asked Queen Yolanda.
"No," Olivia shook her head. "A while ago, I couldn't see, so I only knew Braille. Now I'm learning written language."
"Darian is right, you are indeed a very smart girl." Queen Yolanda flipped through the magic book. There were so many words that she could never finish reading it.
Their subsequent conversation was even more pleasant. Queen Yolanda did not pay much attention to examining Olivia, but chatted casually like ordinary friends, occasionally interspersed with a few questions about her personally, without being deliberate, and the whole afternoon was extremely pleasant.
Sometimes Darien couldn't even get a word in, so he just smiled and ate his snack.
He thought that Queen Yolanda was worthy of being the queen. She coaxed Olivia around with just a few words. It seemed that he was not needed here anymore.
When Queen Yolanda left after afternoon tea, Olivia was reluctant to leave. She stood up and followed Queen Yolanda for several steps, saying as she walked, "Sister Yolanda, when will you come again? I like you very much."
Yolanda smiled and said, "If you're willing, we'll meet again soon. Darian, don't forget our agreement."
“Of course,” Darien said.
Olyphia said, "Then I look forward to seeing you again!"
Darien looked at them and felt confident that he could talk to Olivia about the palace maid tonight. Queen Yolanda liked Olivia, and Olivia should accept the invitation.
So after dinner, Darien stopped Olivia and said to her, "Miss Olivia, I have something to ask you."
Olivia sat back down. "What's going on?"
Darien said, "Do you want to be a lady-in-waiting?"
