Chapter 85: Echoes

Amidst the crumbling ruins and smoke, a brutal chase unfolded between a raging hurricane of destruction and a cold, deadly hunter. Every collision brought about localized collapse and a roar of energy. Below, the soldiers who had survived dragged their remains, watching in horror as this battle, beyond their comprehension, was like ants gazing at the clash of dragons.

Deep within the throne ruins, near the birthplace of the energy cocoon.

Xu Shuangyao dragged her broken body, struggling to crawl, trying to get away from the heart-pounding roar of battle above. Every tremor of the explosion made her heart tighten. She felt anxious for the out-of-control figure and grief for the innocent soldiers caught up in it.

Pei Du...is he now just a beast driven by power and pain? And that sentinel...who is he? Friend or foe?

Doubt and despair intertwined. Her strength was completely exhausted, and the chilling sensation from excessive blood loss was slowly eroding her consciousness. She leaned against a relatively intact wall covered in a cooled, glassy substance, gasping for breath as her vision began to blur and darken.

Just as her consciousness was about to slip into the dark abyss—

Buzz...

A faint, yet incredibly familiar warmth? Like the softest spring sunshine, carrying the fresh scent of new growth, it gently brushed across her frozen heart.

Xu Shuangyao was shocked, and her scattered gaze instantly focused!

This feels like… the Plant Network (Gaia's Spirit)?! It still… exists?

She lowered her head with difficulty, looking at her chest. There, her combat uniform had long since ripped, revealing skin covered in blood and ash. Right at the spot where her heart was, a faint, almost imperceptible emerald green light pierced through the filth, flickering ever so slowly, tenaciously...!

Like a candle in the wind, it refuses to go out!

At the same time, a stream of information, clearer than ever before, filled with deep fatigue yet full of protective will, flowed into her nearly exhausted consciousness like a trickle of water:

[Guardian...Persist...]

['He'...is not lost yet...the core...the conflict...the key...]

[Balance...destruction...greater...threat...awakening...]

[Found... 'Ancient Covenant'... fragments... guidance... hope...]

[I...will...give...you...my last...strength...to...maintain...your life...and wait...]

The information stopped abruptly.

But the faint emerald green light on Xu Shuangyao's chest suddenly brightened for a moment! A weak but extremely pure life energy, like the purest nectar, instantly injected into her body on the verge of collapse!

Her frozen limbs felt a hint of warmth again, the intense pain seemed to ease a bit, and her drowsy consciousness became much clearer! This energy was not a healing force, but it was forcibly holding on to her last breath!

The plant network hasn't given up! It's using its last bit of strength to keep her alive! It says Pei Du...isn't completely lost yet? The core conflict? The key? A greater threat?

And... fragments of the "Ancient Covenant"? What is that?

Countless questions flooded her mind, but at this moment, a faint, real flame of hope ignited in Xu Shuangyao's heart. She struggled to sit up straight, her back against the cold wall, her bloodstained hands tightly pressing against the faint green light on her chest.

Live! Must live! For this last hope, and for... that figure struggling in the rage.

She raised her head, her bloodstained gaze piercing through the dust of the ruins and the constant roar of battle from above, as if trying to see clearly behind this collapsed world... the deeper, awakening shadow of terror.
