Chapter 13

Chapter 13

There are quite a few movies you downloaded on my home computer. It took me several days to finish watching them. I listen to the songs you downloaded whenever I have free time. I use your latest speakers, and the sound quality is excellent.

Your phone is broken and the data cannot be recovered.

Your WeChat account is still logged in on my computer. Your colleagues and friends have sent you messages. I just glanced at them and then closed it.

There's a folder on my computer filled with our photos together, from when we started dating until last month—2096 photos in total.

I spent money on your game. A friend saw you online and started chatting with you in English. I managed to reply with a few words, but he was talking about some kind of equipment...some kind of knife...I couldn't understand. Finally, he said:

"Look forward to seeing you next time, Jiang."

I replied, "See you next time."

...

I hit someone.

Tonight, during a company dinner, a colleague from the next department got drunk and started talking about a car accident that happened a month ago: "It was all that white car's fault. You don't know how much blood the male driver of the black car that was hit was bleeding. Even the dogs passing by were terrified."

He was grinning so wide his eyes disappeared. I slapped him twice and kicked him. His head hit the table and he bled. The police arrived.

The police wouldn't release him and insisted on calling his family. I called Qi Chengchen, and when he arrived, he still didn't believe I had hit him.

"Officer, you must be joking. My sister is such a gentle person, how could she possibly hit someone?"

The police showed him the surveillance footage; his brow was so furrowed it could kill a fly.

When I came back after signing the papers, he asked me, "Why did you hit him, sister? How many years has it been since you hit anyone?"

I didn't answer him. He put his arm around my shoulder and said in a slow voice, "Tell your brother."

He said Jiang Jianian, ... he said he...

Before I could finish speaking, Qi Chengchen turned and went back. Less than a minute later, a scream and shouts came from next door.

I rushed over and found two policemen holding Qi Chengchen down. His eyes were bloodshot as he glared at the man whose head was still bleeding, cursing, "Fuck your grandpa! If you dare mention my brother-in-law again, I'll kill you! What are you, you idiot..."

…The police called Lin Tao again, but didn't let him know anything. After we signed the papers and paid the compensation, they kicked us out.

Lin Tao asked us what happened, and I held Qi Chengchen back from speaking, otherwise we might not have been able to get out of the police station for a while.

I got home very late, and Jiangjiang wagged its tail to welcome me. I gave it some dog food and water and then locked it outside the bedroom.

It was a bit stuffy in the closet, so I threw out the plush toys you bought. Now that there's more space, did I stain your clothes? Why does the smell seem a little faint?
