Chapter 12 Recovery

"Yesterday you were worried about your father, afraid he'd catch a cold. When I went to see him this morning, he was fine. How come you're the one who's sick?"

After a while, the other three children came to the bedside and asked, "Auntie, are you feeling uncomfortable?"

"Why didn't you go to pick pig grass today?" Usually at this time they all went to the riverbank.

"There's not much grass on the riverbank anymore. Mother said forget it, and wait until the grass grows back after the New Year. The grass there isn't enough for our pigs to eat." Shufeng looked at Shuduo, "How did you find out that Auntie was sick?"

"I heard my aunt humming when I got up."

Did she hum? She really didn't know, probably because she was half asleep.

Soon, Zhang came with an old man. Chunxiao remembered this old man as the village herbalist. In fact, he was not a doctor. He just made a living by digging and selling herbs. He often came into contact with medical clinics and gradually understood some pharmacology.

He felt Chunxiao's pulse and looked at her tongue. "It's nothing serious. She fell into the water before and the cold hasn't gone away. I'm afraid she's been overworked these past few days and has brought out the cold. Get some medicine and she'll be fine after two days of rest."

"Then please prescribe some medicine for me. I'll go get the money if you want."

"Take it for three days first. Boil it twice a day, one packet per dose, three bowls of water in one bowl of water, for a total of six doses. It costs 180 coins."

"Then please go back and get the medicine. I'll bring the money and pick it up later."

After Old Man Liu left, Zhou looked at Chunxiao lying on the bed. "I was worried that you weren't fully recovered, so I told you to rest more. But you kept saying you were fine. Now you're sick. Not only is it a waste of money, but you're also suffering. You'll just have to stay in bed for the next two days. Don't go anywhere. Duo'er, Pan'er, do you hear me? Help me watch over your aunt. Don't let her get out of bed."

"What if my aunt needs to go to the toilet?" Shuduo felt sorry for her aunt.

"You are not allowed to go anywhere except to the toilet." Zhou left the house, probably to get money to buy medicine, and Tian followed her.

"Little sister, just listen to me. If you have any problems, just tell me and I will do it for you."

Chunxiao felt her voice was getting hoarse. She didn't know if the barefoot doctor was reliable. "Second sister-in-law, take the children out. I'm sick, and it wouldn't be good if I passed them on. Ask mother to get some ginger and boil some water for them to drink as a precaution."

"What is ginger?" Zhang wondered.

By the way, ginger is now a medicinal herb, not a seasoning. "You can ask Mom to ask Uncle Liu and he will know. Get out now."

Zhang had no choice but to take the children out.

Chunxiao slept drowsily at home all day. At noon, Zhou brought her some medicine. The medicine was the same as that made from coptis chinensis. She wanted to vomit but didn't dare to. Zhou spent money to buy the medicine. If she vomited, Zhou would probably blame her for a year. Zhang made her some thick porridge.

Tian brought her the afternoon medicine, and Zhou went to the end of the village to help.

"Sister-in-law, can I not take this medicine?" She coughed twice as soon as she finished speaking.

"Look, your illness hasn't healed yet, so how can you not take medicine? Drink it quickly."

Chunxiao had no choice but to pinch her nose and drink the medicine.

After Yan Bingfa came back, he and Dashan came to see her. "Why did you get sick out of nowhere? Are you feeling better now?"

"Much better, Dad." He was indeed much better, and even began to sweat. The barefoot doctor's medicine must be reliable, right?

"Just lie back and relax. The doors and windows on your side are all installed. We've also built the kitchen and toilet today, and even built a stove. The house is ready, and we're just waiting for the furniture and other things. You don't have to worry about it."

"Someone came over to see the house when we were renovating it today, and they all said that the area had changed a lot."

"Big brother, and second brother, you have worked hard."

"What's the hard work? Don't be so polite all the time."

In this way, Chunxiao lay in bed for two whole days. On the third day, she felt that she was almost recovered. Except for a slight cough, she had no other symptoms and was full of energy. However, she was sweating and felt a little uncomfortable.

Shuduo and Paner have been strictly carrying out the tasks assigned by their grandmother these past two days. When they have nothing to do, they sit on a stool at the door. Now the two of them are talking at the door.

The spring morning calls Shuduo.

"Auntie, do you want to go to the toilet?" Shuduo ran to the bed and prepared to get her clothes.

"Go and see if your grandma is home. If she is, tell her that your aunt wants to take a bath."

Shuduo obediently went to pass on the message, and Zhou soon followed.

"You've just recovered from your illness. What if your condition worsens after you take a bath? Just be patient and wait until you're fully recovered before taking a bath."

"Oh, mother, I'm sweating all over. I can't stand it if I don't wash. I know whether I'm feeling better or not, but I think I'm all better."

Zhou couldn't persuade her and looked at the weather outside. "You can't take a shower now. Take a shower after taking medicine and eating lunch. The sun will be strong then and it won't be easy to get cold."

Chunxiao nodded in agreement. It would only take a while anyway. "Mom, I really can't lie down for two days anymore. I want to go outside to bask in the sun and dry the quilt at the same time."

"Okay, you seem to be feeling more energetic. The medicine is working. If you want to get up, then get up. It would be nice to go out in the sun. Duo'er, take the quilts on your beds outside to dry them in the sun later."

Zhou took care of her dressing. Chunxiao didn't want her help at all. She put on her clothes quickly and carried the quilt out. Duo'er followed behind and carried her own quilt out. Zhou lifted the mattress and took it out to dry in the sun.

After drying the quilt, Chunxiao obediently moved a stool to the courtyard to bask in the sun. "Where are my second brother and the others? Aren't they done with the house over there?"
