Chapter 33: Ambush (2/2)

The discrimination rife in education in this era is very serious, and this is not only reflected in terms of identity and class, but also in terms of gender.

Before the Industrial Revolution, women had almost no opportunity to receive education. Noble women could only hire tutors at most. French schools and even universities like St. Amanda's were all boys' schools, and boys also boarded in the school.

After the Industrial Revolution, the status of women improved slightly. Some middle schools began to accept female students. Children of aristocrats, children of the bourgeoisie, and children of the common people with financial conditions like Dorothy were able to enter middle schools.

Of course, this is not a very common phenomenon. Nowadays, there are still a large number of secondary schools that still adhere to the tradition of boys' schools. Schools like St. Amanda's that are willing to recruit female students and change from boys' schools to co-educational schools are already pioneers of the times. However, they have also made certain concessions to tradition. For example, the proportion of female students will not be high, and girls are not allowed to board.

If a large number of female students and male students live together in the same dormitory, even if they are strictly separated, it will be considered immoral by conservatives in society.

Female students cannot board, which is not actually good news for them, because it will make them miss many evening classes, thus widening the gap between their grades and those of male students.

However, these did not matter to Dorothy at all. She would rather listen to fewer of those weird courses. She could accept the general math, logic, art, grammar and other classes, but she really could not accept religion and etiquette classes. Unless they were spiritual, she did not want to listen to them at all.

So, as usual, Dorothy and a group of young ladies walked towards the school gate in the sunset as usual, and there were already many carriages waiting at the school gate.

Many daughters of nobles and bourgeois families had their own carriages to pick them up at such times. People like Dorothy who could not afford to hire their own carriage could only take a taxi home.

Also, knowing that many students at St. Amanda's School needed to take a carriage after school, some free coachmen would usually park their carriages in front of the school gate. Dorothy used to take these carriages back home, and the fare was not expensive anyway.

Dorothy walked out of the school gate slowly with her bag on her shoulder. As usual, she glanced at the place where coachmen usually gathered, but she didn't see a free driver's carriage.

"Strange... shouldn't there be a few cars parked here normally?"

Looking at the scene in front of her, Dorothy thought puzzledly. At this moment, there was a sound of horse hooves in the distance. Dorothy turned her head and saw a carriage being driven towards her from a distance, and then it stopped steadily in front of her.

"Miss, do you want a ride?"

The coachman in the carriage looked at Dorothy below and said with a smile, while Dorothy was slightly stunned.

"I was just looking for a car... and it came? Isn't it a coincidence? It seems that this guy saw me coming out and drove over..."

"Hmm... Let me think about it for a moment..."

Pretending to be in a conspiracy, Dorothy secretly activated the corpse puppet ring, causing the gecko hiding in her pocket to slightly poke its eyes out to observe the surroundings, especially the blind spots in her vision.

Later, she found that two men in hats and windbreakers had approached her from behind. They pretended to read a newspaper while staring at Dorothy in front of them.

"It seems... I'm being watched..."

Seeing this scene, Dorothy took a deep breath, and then, as if she had made up her mind, she looked at the coachman in front of her and said.

"Well, please go to Mr. Nanyang Lu."

"Understand Miss, please come up."

Listening to the driver's words, Dorothy walked forward, then accidentally slipped and fell.

“Ouch~”

"Are you okay Miss?"

Seeing this, the driver quickly got off the car and helped Dorothy up. Dorothy also took the opportunity to glance at the driver's waist.

There, hanging a gun box...

"There's a gun..."

"Thanks……"

While saying thank you, Dorothy was helped into the carriage by the driver. Then the driver started the carriage and drove forward.

Seeing this scene, the man who was standing behind Dorothy looked at each other, and then walked towards the corner of a distant intersection. After a while, two carriages drove out from the corner and followed the carriage that Dorothy was riding.

On the gravel road, a gecko watched three carriages leave, then quickly crawled into the campus.
