Chapter 37 Yellow-skinned Iced Drink (2/2)

Liang Guiying also drank a bowl, and there was still some left in the pot. She divided it into two portions and gave them to the two women to take back to their families: "Just tell me if they like it after they finish drinking it."

Aunt Wang's daughter-in-law, Lin Fang, is almost four months pregnant. She looked listless when she woke up early this morning. She only ate half a bowl of meat porridge in total for breakfast and lunch. After drinking the yellow-skinned iced drink that Aunt Wang brought back, she let out a long sigh of relief, and her face visibly relaxed.

Aunt Wang tentatively asked her, "Shall I cook you a bowl of rice noodles?"

Lin Fang nodded: "Okay."

"Want another egg?"

Lin Fang nodded again: "Okay."

Aunt Wang quickly cooked the noodles, and Lin Fang finished the bowl in no time, looking up at her and asking, "Mom, is there any more?"

Lin Fang was really hungry, and she ate two large bowls of noodles in one go before she was satisfied.

"Mom, what did you give me to drink just now? Where did you buy it? It's sweet and sour, very appetizing, and it seems to help with digestion. I'd like to have some more. Could you go buy me another bowl?" Lin Fang asked.

"The yellow-skinned iced drink isn't sold outside. It's made by Grandma Nian Nian herself. It took her an hour or two to prepare. I'll go check again. If she still has some, I'll ask her to make another bowl. If not, I'll ask her to make some more."

Grandma makes it every year?

Lin Fang recalled how she had yelled at her mother-in-law because her daughter had accidentally fallen, and how she had harbored resentment towards the little girl, Niannian. Later, she learned that Liang Guiying had a reason for placing Niannian in her home, and that the chicken soup that night was even made with chicken that Liang Guiying had caught.

Lin Fang was very embarrassed at the time, but young people are shy and don't know how to face it, so she just ran away. This time, she only had a good appetite after drinking the iced drink made by the other person.

She thought for a moment and said, "Mom, I'll go with you. We'll pay for it. It'll take two hours, and it'll be tiring."

"No, no, Grandma Niannian won't accept it."

"...Anyway, I'm going to pay."

When Aunt Wang and Lin Fang arrived, Aunt Zhong was already there again. She laughed heartily: "Grandma Niannian, let me tell you, when Old Zhong first smelled the sour smell, he refused to drink it no matter what. I threatened him with divorce, and he reluctantly took a sip. And guess what happened?"

Liang Guiying asked with interest, "What's wrong?"

"He snatched it and drank it all in one gulp, then asked if there were any more, wanting me to go buy two more bowls!" Aunt Zhong laughed heartily. "That scoundrel, he's never meant what he says his whole life!"

Aunt Wang came in with a smile: "Grandma Niannian, do you still have any of this yellow-skinned iced drink? My daughter Fang drank it and had a great appetite. She said she wants to buy two more bowls."

"There's still some left, but not much." Liang Guiying brought it all out and gave it to Lin Fang. "Iced drinks are delicious, but you're pregnant and can't get cold. Drink this bowl and then don't drink any more. Come back in a couple of days to drink some more."

Lin Fang tried to pay, but Liang Guiying refused. After a few tugs of the dispute, Lin Fang simply stuffed the money into Zhou Xiaonian's hand, picked up her iced drink, and left.

Zhou Xiaonian was grinning as she watched her grandmother and Lin Fang play when suddenly a bill appeared in her hand, leaving her bewildered.

Aunt Wang said with a smile, "Aunt Lin will buy candy for Niannian."

Buy some candy.

The little girl got up and ran outside, shouting at Lin Fang's retreating figure, "Thank you, Aunt Lin!"

When he came back, he spun around in circles, saying, "I have money! I have money!"

The three adults were amused.

Over the next two or three days, Liang Guiying made iced drinks twice more, sending two bowls to the families of those who had gone to the cotton mill to rescue Zhou Yue, and also sending two bowls to the neighbors who had come to help cook at her house a few days earlier.

Everyone's feedback is that it tastes great and is very thirst-quenching.

Liang Guiying was relieved.

Zhou Yue is embarking on a new chapter in her life; she plans to start her own business.

For my first venture, I'll sell yellow-skinned iced drinks.

Liang Guiying spent two days preparing for her stall (buying a large soup pot, bowls, and a loudspeaker), and then spent a morning making iced drinks.

At 11:30 a.m., Liang Guiying fed Zhou Xiaonian, then loaded the large aluminum soup pot onto the tricycle, carried Zhou Xiaonian on her back, and headed straight for Jiangcheng Match Factory, the closest to the airport living area.
