Gu Li calmed down and sat down at the computer desk to play games. Suddenly, a hand silently reached out and took off her antique glasses. Gu Li looked up in surprise and saw a stunningly handsome man in a pink shirt. She didn't recognize the man, but she knew that he had an unusual relationship with Chu Yaofeng and seemed to be his mistress.
"It really is you. You're quite pretty. Here you go." Max handed her the lunchbox.
Gu Li refused coldly, "I'm not hungry." Then, she frowned and asked curiously, "Do we know each other?"
“I don’t know you.” Maxi gently placed the lunchbox on her desk, looking down at her with a smile. “But I’ve seen you before, in the newspaper, you and Yaofeng.” He fiddled with his fingers, indicating a kiss.
Gu Li almost choked on her own saliva, her cheeks flushed, and she explained, "I have absolutely nothing to do with that bastard. Don't misunderstand, the newspaper was photoshopped, it's not real. You and him are a perfect match."
Gu Li misunderstood that he had come seeking revenge.
Max laughed and said, "You don't like Yaofeng?"
"Of course." She didn't just dislike him; she absolutely loathed that narcissistic and unpredictable guy. But every time he got close to her, her heart would race uncontrollably. Foolish heart, so prone to restless desires. Believe me, I'll replace you.
"What a coincidence, I don't like him either." Maxi breathed a sigh of relief, leaned on Gu Li's desk with his butt sticking out, and rested his chin on his hands in a sunflower pose. "You know what? I also think Yaofeng is a jerk, a super jerk. All the women I've set my sights on have ended up in his bed. You're the exception."
"Uh..." Gu Li's lips twitched slightly. Was he confessing his feelings to her?
"Oh right, I've been so busy chatting that I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Max, and I'm the director of this company. Welcome to LB! We can work together, eat together, and leave work together. We can also go shopping, have meals, and watch movies together when we have time," Max said warmly.
Gu Li got goosebumps all over as she listened, and three black lines appeared on her forehead. "Aren't girls the only ones who like shopping, eating, and watching movies?" Sure enough, this man is a sissy.
“I call it playing to their tastes,” Maxie winked at her. “I’m very good at taking care of women.” Unfortunately, no one was willing to let him practice.
He just happens to have a seductive face; there's nothing he can do about it—his mother, Xu Meihui, was born with a foxy charm, and he looks more like his mother.
Many people assume he's a submissive character because of his strikingly handsome appearance.
Damn it, he's a real man.
An absolutely amazing offensive man!
"Do you have time after get off work? Let's have dinner together."
"I have things to do after get off work."
"Did you make a date with your boyfriend?"
"No, I don't have a boyfriend."
"So, does that mean I can pursue you?"
"..."
Max was overjoyed. "Don't worry, Yaofeng and I are just friends. What you saw today was us fighting. Who told him to lie to me and say..." You're an ugly monster.
"What did you say?" Gu Li asked casually.
"It's nothing." Max smiled, genuinely happy. She didn't have a boyfriend, so he could pursue her freely. "Let's meet up another time when we're free." He blew her a kiss and turned to leave gracefully.
Gu Li sighed, dismissing it as a lapse of judgment and not taking it seriously. She continued playing her computer game when suddenly her cell phone, which was in her bag, rang loudly.
"Hello?" she answered lazily.
"Someone is investigating you." It was a deep and reserved male voice.
"Oh, what did you find out?" Gu Li asked casually.
"Aren't you even curious about who's investigating you?"
Gu Li turned her head and glanced at the CEO's office. "I know."
"Let me guess how you knew." The voice on the other end had a slight inflection. "You got into LB."
"How did you know?" Gu Li had always known that he was incredibly powerful, that he had altered her background and given her a new life, and that her current situation was all thanks to his efforts in creating her.
She owes him nothing for taking care of her and her son over the years.
Their relationship was purely platonic; he cared about her position, but he had absolutely no right to spy on her.
"Chengcheng told me."
"I see," Gu Li breathed a sigh of relief. "With your help, I'm not worried at all about him finding out anything."
"Xiao Li." After a moment of deep breathing, her voice came again, "Take care, you and Chengcheng. I welcome you back anytime."
"Okay, take care too, goodbye."
After hanging up the phone, Gu Li leaned back in her chair, her mind a jumble of thoughts. It seemed that it wasn't just her plans that had been disrupted; the thought of Chu Yaofeng investigating her sent a shiver down her spine.
