Chapter 17 Encountering a Scoundrel

Following behind her third brother, Ruan Meng found it both funny and heartbreaking to see him struggling to communicate with others.

According to the original owner's memories, in the past, in the mansion, she had her father to protect her, two older brothers to take care of her, and her sister-in-law to manage the household. She didn't have to worry about anything, and didn't even know the price of firewood, rice, oil, and salt.

It was during these three months of exile that he suddenly had an epiphany and came to understand the coldness and warmth of human relationships.

"Hello, where can I buy whole grains and cereals?"

"Are there any foods suitable for older people?"

......

Ruan Meng followed along the way and saw her third brother gradually become more adept at it, from his initial clumsiness to his eventual ease, and couldn't help but smile.

Just as Ruan was about to turn back, he suddenly turned around and said to those behind him, "Come out!"

Ruan Meng emerged from behind and jogged up to him, a grin on her face. "Third Brother, you spotted me?"

Ruan Zheng smiled casually, "If I hadn't noticed, then all your third brother's martial arts training would have been for nothing!"

Ruan Meng asked Ruan Zheng how much money he had left, and found that he had five hundred coins, so she took it.

Suddenly I remembered that I forgot to buy a bamboo hat, which will protect me from the sun when I go beachcombing in the future.

Gloves are best for picking seafood, but they don't exist in this era.

Ruan Meng stood in front of a cotton fabric shop, staring blankly at the sign that read "Custom-made Clothes".

She was debating whether to draw the design of the gloves herself and have the shop make them for her, or to buy cotton fabric and needles and thread and make them herself at home.

After inquiring about the price, I decisively bought cotton fabric and needles and thread.

Ruan Zheng assumed that his sister wanted to buy it to make clothes, so he didn't ask any questions.

When they returned to the place where they had parted ways with their elder brother and sister-in-law, they found that the area had been surrounded by people.

There were sounds of arguing coming from inside.

"If you don't return our belongings, we'll report you to the authorities!"

"We were only gone for a short while, who would have thought that someone would take what they wanted and steal our things? Luckily we discovered it in time!"

"Let go! If you don't let go, don't blame us for being impolite!"

......

Upon hearing this, Ruan Meng and her third brother exchanged a glance and immediately guessed what had happened.

Ruan Zheng's face darkened, and he pushed through the crowd to slip inside.

Ruan Meng followed behind, rushing ahead of Ruan Zhengfa to block his way.

Several burly local men were seen struggling with the second brother, grabbing him by the collar and trying to wrest the tricycle from his sister-in-law.

The elder brother stood in front of his sister-in-law, but before he could speak, he was pushed aside by the burly man, who mocked him.

Ruan Zheng felt a rush of blood to his head, threw what he was holding on the ground, and rushed forward.

A local old woman's voice came from behind, advising, "Young man, don't fight them! Their family members are officials on the other side of the river; you'll suffer if you mess with them!"

"Even the county magistrate can't do anything about them; they're just scoundrels!"

The old woman let out a long sigh.

The onlookers dared not say anything.

Ruan Zheng rushed forward, snatched the wheelbarrow back from the big man, and pulled his second brother back with his other hand.

"Third brother, don't be impulsive!"

With his elder brother's reminder, Ruan Zhengcai barely managed to hold back the fist that had been extended to his nose.

He spoke fiercely, pulled his fist back, gritted his teeth, and stood in front of his eldest brother, sister-in-law, and second brother.

Upon seeing this, the burly men threw their heads back and burst into laughter, becoming even more emboldened.

Noticing the situation around them, they all looked at Ruan Meng and immediately revealed lewd smiles.

Seeing that no one was around Ruan Meng, they exchanged a glance and walked towards her.

The Ruan brothers' expressions changed, and they rushed over, trying to shield their sister.

Before they could even get close, they were all violently thrown aside by the big man.

Ruan Meng picked up the things that her third brother had just thrown on the ground, deftly brushed past the big man, and calmly placed them on the wheelbarrow.

The burly men missed their target and spat. Ruan Meng smiled, glanced at the wheelbarrow, picked out a wooden bucket, and shoved her third brother aside.

Just as the burly men were engrossed in their conversation, they suddenly saw Ruan Meng smash the wooden bucket on the ground, shattering it into pieces!

Ruan Meng easily snapped the wooden blocks she had thrown away, as easily as breaking chopsticks!

When all the planks of the wooden bucket were broken, Ruan Meng turned around, picked out a winnowing basket, and crushed it on the spot by pushing it inward with both hands.

After a while, he threw a handful of broken bamboo pieces from his palm.

Ruan Meng ignored the group and looked around. "Who wants to have a match? Give it a try?"

A hint of hesitation flickered in the eyes of the burly men.

Just then, Ruan Meng saw a man next to her carrying a straw stick with candied hawthorn sticks stuck on it.

Ruan Meng walked over, took the candied hawthorn off the stick, and returned it to her older brother, saying, "Can I borrow it for a moment?"
