Chapter 39 You're still the one who's worse off.

"Wow, this house is so dilapidated!"

"Wow, why is this staircase so dark!"

"Wow, why does this smell sour and foul!"

"Wow, who put trash here? It's so filthy!"

With each word Tang Li spoke, Meng Wan felt a vein throb in her temple. Meng Zhili remained silent, and when they finally reached the door, Meng Wan expertly shone a flashlight on him.

With a 'click', the door opened.

"Mom!" Meng Zhili called out.

"Zhili, have you picked up Wanwan yet?" Qin Yi came over when she heard the voice, and then she saw that Meng Zhili was followed not only by Meng Wan, but also by two other people and a dog.

"Who...who are these two?"

"Let's go inside first and talk about it." Meng Wan felt exhausted.

"So shabby, so small, so cramped." Tang Li looked around the tiny rented room with disgust. "Tang Wan, are you a masochist?"

"Shut up!" Meng Wan grabbed his mouth and pinched it shut, giving him a warning glare.

Tang Li felt wronged and glared back, but there was nothing he could do about Meng Wan.

Tang Qi sat on the main sofa like the master of the house, watching the two playfully bickering without saying a word to stop them. Meng Boqun, on the other hand, sat on the sofa to the side, looking somewhat embarrassed.

"The house is indeed quite small, but I wonder what brings the two young masters of the Tang family here so late at night?"

Qin Yi placed the water in front of the two of them. The Tyrannosaurus Rex lay beside Tang Li, its tongue lolling out, its eyes fixed on Qin Yi. Meng Wan noticed this and immediately blocked the Tyrannosaurus Rex's view. Only then did Qin Yi breathe a sigh of relief and sit down next to Meng Boqun.

"It's getting late, so I'll get straight to the point." Tang Qi crossed his legs and placed his hands on his knees, like an ancient king strategizing.

Name your price, and I'll take Tang Wan with me.

Upon hearing this, everyone except Tang Li and Meng Wan changed their expressions.

Meng Wan rubbed her forehead and rolled her eyes, as if she had expected Tang Qi to do this.

The Meng family looked at him, and Meng Wan shook her head, indicating that they could rest assured.

“Young Master Tang, as you can see, Wanwan doesn’t want to leave, so no matter how much you offer, we have no right to decide whether Wanwan stays or leaves. As long as she doesn’t want to leave, this family will definitely have a place for her.”

"A place to stay?" Tang Qi smirked. "Tang Wan, you don't live in the manor I bought for you. You'd rather squeeze into this rented room where you don't even have the right to have your own room?"

"Mm," Meng Wan replied with a smile, without the slightest hesitation.

"You should take your brain out and shake it."

"Your tongue can be removed now."

Give me a reason.

"I thought you had some self-awareness," Meng Wan said, feigning surprise.

"The talks broke down."

"There's nothing to talk about." The two spoke at each other like needles piercing a thorn, each word seemingly meant to kill the other, yet they were also surrounded by an invisible barrier, preventing anyone from getting a word in edgewise.

"As you can see, I'm doing very well. Of course, it would be better if you didn't show up."

Tang Qi had a smile on his lips, but his eyes turned cold.

Upon seeing this, Tang Li reached out and grabbed Meng Wan.

"If I kick that woman out for you, will you be willing to come back? That woman is boring and cowardly, not fun at all."

"Don't treat people like toys. Keep an eye on yourself and your dog!" Meng Wan didn't tolerate him and gave him a flick on the head.

Tang Li feigned pain and cried out. Seeing that Meng Wan ignored him, he tugged at the Tyrannosaurus Rex's rope, "Tyrannosaurus Rex, bite her! Bite her and I'll give you something delicious to eat!"

Unfortunately, the Tyrannosaurus Rex merely nuzzled his trouser leg in a conciliatory manner and made no further move.

Tang Li pouted and kicked the coffee table in a huff. "Are you after their shabby house, because they don't have money?"

Meng Wan frowned, about to reprimand him, when the door suddenly opened. The others looked over, but Meng Zhiyao only glanced at them before going into the kitchen to pour himself a glass of water and silently returning to his room.

He didn't say a word the whole time, and didn't even give a second glance.

"Tang Wan! Who is he?!" Tang Li immediately exploded after realizing what was happening!

Meng Wan's expression changed, and she immediately stepped forward to cover his mouth. Despite his struggles, she led him outside.

"Alright, you two young masters, your younger sister is waiting for you at home. Don't disturb our family's sleep. Take care." As Meng Wan said this, Tang Qi followed her out.

"Tang Wan, who is he! You can only have one brother, me! Do you hear me!" Tang Li shouted in a muffled voice as Meng Wan covered his mouth.

"Behave yourself!" Meng Wan shouted.

"I'll pick you up after school tomorrow." In stark contrast to Tang Li's boisterousness, Tang Qi appeared calm and quiet.

Meng Wan didn't respond and closed the door. Finally, she saw the two off and breathed a sigh of relief. If she hadn't gotten rid of them, things would have been troublesome if they had gone berserk.

Stretching, Meng Wan prepared to wash up, only to find the three of them staring intently at him.

"The two young masters of the Tang family, my former elder brother and my former younger brother."

"Former brother...former brother..." Upon hearing this address, Meng Zhili smiled helplessly.

"I can tell they still care about you, it's just that their way of speaking isn't quite right," Qin Yi said cautiously, trying to comfort her.

Meng Wan twitched the corners of her mouth, indicating that she couldn't smile.

"Wanwan, come and sit down." Meng Boqun patted the sofa.

Meng Wan knew what Meng Boqun was going to say, but she still sat down.

"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. You don't need to worry about what Tang Qi will do to you. He may be a bit crazy, but he's still quite sensible."

“Wanwan, Dad isn’t afraid of what they might do to us, but he thinks what they said makes sense.”

"Where does that make sense?"

“You know our family’s situation. Although it’s slowly improving thanks to you, we’re still a burden to you. I know the eldest son of the Tang family. He’s young and decisive, and it’s clear he cares about you. He came over so late at night. It’s better for you to be with him than with us.”

"Is this an attempt to get rid of me?" Meng Wan raised an eyebrow.

"Of course not! As I said, you definitely have a part in this family. It's just that if there are better options, we, as family members, certainly can't stop you."

"Let's leave this topic here. It's getting late, you should all get some rest."

"Wanwan..."

Meng Wan didn't turn around. Meng Boqun met the gazes of the two men, his eyes filled with sorrow.

"Dad, Wanwan has her own ideas, so don't worry too much."

Meng Boqun sighed, but ultimately said nothing.

Meanwhile, Tang Li sat in the passenger seat, arms crossed, sulking to himself. Tyrannosaurus Rex lay quietly in the back seat, not making a sound.

"How can she have a younger brother!" He was still just a child, and couldn't hold back his words.

“Why can’t she have one? She has three older brothers.” It was rare for Tang Qi to reply to Tang Li.

Upon hearing this, Tang Li raised her chubby little hands, making a three with her left hand and a one with her right, looking at Tang Qi with a hint of sympathy.

"You're still worse off."
