Chapter 93 You Look Like an Old Friend I Know
After hanging up Guan Yan's call, Lu Xiwen was about to lie down when he heard Pei Wu ask, "Why is Guan Yan suddenly so angry?"
"Is he angry?" Lu Xiwen didn't realize that Young Master Guan's words were always sarcastic and inflammatory.
“Hmm.” Pei Wu was very perceptive. If it was about avenging his brother, Guan Yan had always done a good job. Why would he suddenly be so anxious?
Lu Xiwen didn't dwell on it, saying, "Maybe he's just having a fit."
Pei Wu chuckled, rubbed her eyes, and sat up: "Is there anything to eat?"
"Auntie isn't here, so I'll cook you noodles."
"No, no, no." Pei Wu woke up instantly. "I've had enough sleep, I'll go by myself."
He didn't give Lu Xiwen a chance to speak, got out of bed and headed straight for the bathroom with steady steps.
Lu Xiwen's cooking is really not good.
Pei Wu had been in a deep sleep since returning from the association that day, but today she has finally recovered completely.
He cooked two bowls of egg noodles, stir-fried some tiger-skin peppers, and made a cold potato salad. He looked up at his watch and it was 6:30 in the morning.
Based on the time Guan Yan made the call, had he not slept all night?
Lu Xiwen helped bring out the food. He had barely slept during the days Pei Wu was unconscious, but that didn't stop him from being energetic as soon as Pei Wu recovered.
"Is the Alpha Association sure they're not going to pursue this?"
"Yes, you played the propaganda war with Lan Zhe perfectly. Investing in the research and development of new inhibitors is a big plus. But I'm not afraid. At worst, I won't stay in Hongdu."
Lu Xiwen made this point at the association building, and everyone knew that if he really wanted to leave, they couldn't stop him.
"Wu Lian can forget about getting out of here." Lu Xiwen said, "This guy has a ton of grievances on his hands. There's no need for an assessment. The association has already given him a 'Level 1 Danger' rating, and they'll be filing a case and prosecuting him soon."
The acquisition contract that Pei Wu had written in advance came in very useful.
While everyone in Changrong was busy and barely had time to breathe, Pei Wu suddenly had some free time.
The majority vote approved his decision to stay home and rest.
“It’s common knowledge that Assistant Pei is very capable, but the doctor also said that you just finished your fever period and then had a low-grade fever for a few days. For the safety of your glands, just stay home, sleep, and watch TV. Call me if you need anything.” Lu Xiwen muttered to himself as he changed his shoes, and then gave Pei Wu a big hug. “I’m going to a meeting. Remember to let me know if you’re going out.”
Pei Wu: "Okay."
After Lu Xiwen left, Pei Wu listened to the morning financial news for a while, then felt sleepy and took a nap.
When I woke up at noon, feeling bored, I texted Guan Yan while cooking, asking if he was free and if we could come out for a chat.
Normally, Guan Yan would just give the coordinates directly, but today he unusually replied with "No," meaning he didn't have time. A few seconds later, he followed up with another message: "Wait two days."
Pei Wu felt something was off.
News about the two major medical companies in Haicheng facing huge fines and bankruptcy has been circulating online. Pei Wu glances at it from time to time. With Lu Xiwen's influence, things won't be easy for the other side. Meanwhile, he's been engrossed in a well-received political drama these past two days, watching it with great interest.
One night, he couldn't stop thinking about it. After Lu Xiwen fell asleep, he got up and went to the study to look at it. He was caught red-handed by Lu Xiwen, who woke him up, and was taken back to the bedroom to sleep.
Two weeks later, Guan Yan called, "I'm treating you to dinner at Haolin tonight. Want to chat for a bit?"
Pei Wu immediately agreed: "Sure."
Pei Wu and Lu Xiwen arrived one after the other. Kuang Junmeng heard that he had made a mistake and was being confined to his home by his old man. Only Cao Guan was there.
Upon entering the booth, Lu Xiwen glanced around and said, "Where's Guan Yan? He called us here, but he didn't show up."
"I just called and asked, they said it'll be ready soon." Cao Guan greeted Pei Wu. "The lightly seasoned juices here are pretty good, you can try them."
Upon hearing the name, Lu Xiwen immediately ordered two drinks from the waiter.
Cao Guan now treats Pei Wu very well. Just based on Pei Wu's behavior during the days when Lu Xiwen was taken away by the association, Cao Guan felt that his brother had found the right person.
They were chatting casually when Guan Yan strode in.
He frowned when he saw the juice next to Pei Wu: "One glass isn't enough. How about this, bring out all the flavors."
Pei Wu stared intently at Guan Yan: "In such a good mood?"
Guan Yan raised an eyebrow: "You can tell?"
"Um."
Cao Guan: "Hasn't he always been in this mood?"
Pei Wu sighed, sometimes she really felt that there was a barrier between her and others.
After Guan Yan sat down, he glanced at the door for some reason. It was a gathering of brothers, and there was no one else around. Everyone talked about everything. When they talked about Wu Lian, Cao Guan cursed loudly, saying that once this guy was finally in jail, they would set off a few strings of firecrackers to get rid of the bad luck.
"I heard the Cao family arranged a blind date for you?" Guan Yan asked, unable to hide his gossip.
"Nonsense, that was something my aunt arranged on her own. She lied to me and said something was wrong, but she ended up making me meet a strange Omega."
"You don't feel anything?"
"Nonsense, how could you have any feelings about someone you've never even met?"
Guan Yan gave a faint "Oh".
Cao Guan couldn't help but glance at Guan Yan again.
Hiss, Pei Wu was right. Although this person still looked aloof, he was talking much more frequently, and there was a strange smile in the corners of his eyes and brows. Who was he laughing at?
Cao Guan ordered some wine, and Pei Wu and Guan Yan also took a few sips.
Two hours passed in the blink of an eye. Cao Guan patted his stomach and asked, "Are you hungry?"
Guan Yan tossed his phone to Cao Guan, "There's nothing good to eat here, let's order takeout."
Cao Guan added all the crayfish from his favorite restaurant to his cart, while Guan Yan placed his order without even looking at it.
Pei Wu saw Kuang Junmeng sobbing in the group chat and said that she also wanted to come, but her request to the old man had been rejected.
Not long after, someone knocked on the door; the takeout had arrived.
Delivery drivers aren't allowed in. They usually deliver the food downstairs, where staff take them to the door, and then bodyguards bring them in.
"Enter."
Someone pushed the door open and came in. Cao Guan thought it was the elder brother who looked like "Zhang Fei", but after looking away, he felt that the figure was not right.
Pei Wu noticed it immediately.
The newcomer still had two bandages on his face, and the bruises around his eyes had not completely faded. He stood up straight, without the slightest trace of his previous roguish arrogance. His usually irritating face was now full of respect. His hair was neatly combed, and he was wearing a pure black bodyguard uniform.
Silence fell around them. Guan Yan coughed twice and changed his posture.
Lu Xiwen suddenly snorted coldly.
Pei Wu's face was full of understanding.
Only Cao Guan refused to accept reality and sincerely said to the person in front of him, "Dude, you look a lot like an old friend of mine."
The other person: "Really?"
“Your voices are exactly the same.” Cao Guan asked, “What’s your name?”
"Chu Lin".
“The name is the same too.” Cao Guan said this, picking up the wine bottle on the table.
Chu Lin took a step back: "What?"
Cao Guan's expression changed. "What? What do you mean, what? Isn't it time for you to be Wu Lian's dog and surround Lu Xiwen?"
"Nonsense," Chu Lin corrected. "It was Lu Xiwen who surrounded us all, okay?"
Cao Guan: "..."
